Turbo Change

Recommended Posts

i suppose you could reuse it if its in ok condition, i just that you can pick up a new one for around $20 so why not change it, it would be a real pain if you had to pull it all off again to change it out if it doesn't seal up properly. the nuts should be up tighter than that, but they do work themselves loose over time (and by time i mean years) with the heat, thats why the locking tabs are on there.

how did you go removing it all, easy enough?

To remove the turbo was ,very easy, much easier than installing the SS.dump pipe ,the six bolts that hold the dump are going to be replaced (10.85 for 4 bolts and 2 studs with nut)I will need to retap one of the threads of the turbo ;easy to do ,24 mm. water lines were easy so I think the hardest part was all the pieces I took ...so yep excited to put the turbo back and see the increase in boost( Tao at Hypergear hiflowed it :ermm: )so after that need to save money and get the timing belt change done(hard to save money thinking all the mods that can help the new turbo)Tao told me that with the right mods it can run 250Kw. to the wheels...tempting very tempting (where do I sell a kidney?)

  • 2 weeks later...

After a week of driving the car,it feels a bit slugghier than it use to be(bigger steel alloy turbine)so I need to change my way of drive .

Now the interesting bit, this morning took a bloke that works with me for a spin around the block where I work, the stag was in auto ....pedal to the metal ,it took of 1 to 1.5 secs after, got in boost and SPINNED THE WHEELS :) , man this is going insane never imagined to burn rubber on the stag (and only on 12 psi with basic mods...).

Very happy with the power figures of the Hiflowed turbo...

Now I want MORE....

(a very special thanks to stao from Hypergear) :P

I know what you mean about having to change your driving style. no more trying to quickly pull out onto the road or around a corner in busy traffic, got to take the lag into account lol

What ecu are you running Freddy?

I 'm runing stock ecu, installed and SAFC2 couple of months ago(never tuned),now it feelslike "why in the name of...I didn't buy a nistune in the group buy?????" but, never wanted to hi flow /upgrade turbo...until stock failed,so I had two roads, buy a second hand stock one or hi flow decided on hi flow because they gave me one year warranty(you never know about second hand turbos...)

and just to clarify QW32, the current mods are:HDI boost controller @12 psi , Xforce 3" dump/front pipe, Catco cat ,Fujitsubo legalis catback and Apexi pod filter...

is stagea twin turbo ?

Mine is a 1999 RS4V so it's single turbo RB25DET NEO engine de only stagea with twins is the 260RS wich has a RB26DETT engine...

    • That's true. However, this problem has started since the tuning. First time with the return journey from the tuning. But yes, the pipe was clogged with dirt and rust. That was certainly due to age
    • Great info @tidi0x  Will definitely be handy for others and maybe me if I decide to keep the shit box H pattern.
    • Bumping this up one last time.... I wanted to follow up on the clutch slave issue. I realized that what the issue comes down to is the pocket is flat milled, and the cylinder does not want rest flat. So in order to mount it correctly you will need to make a spacer for the fingers so the cylinder is floating. I took two plates of aluminum, drilled some holes and was good. I did still need to make the relief cuts in the bell housing, as even with the spacer the bleed section still interferes. The OE bell housing the mounting holes are raised from the housing.
    • If the event in USA goes ahead will be interesting as it seems the rules will get more cars over here. Apparently the track is laguna seca too. Yeah s15, if I get a the lower dash trims, centre console and change front cross member to standard LCA position will fit clubsprint. See how rules are as i would rather do complete widebody than a bolt on flare to run the 295 with proper clearance.
    • If the car is legal height I can't see it being an issue. Found a thread on reddit that might offer some insight.   I got a ticket from a copper in QLD for my S15 being too low. They had this wheel thing on a stick that they put under the car and it hit my exhaust. Anyhow went to an exhaust shop to get the exhaust tucked up/hung a little higher and I wound the coilovers up a smidge. Don't think I even had to go back to the police station unlike when I got defected for having a carbon bonnet when I brought the S15 from the ACT to QLD and had to replace it and then rock up at a police station and have a yougish female officer who knew nothing about cars confirm that I had changed bonnets. Should have just painted the carbon bonnet yellow to match the rest of the car lol
