hey sau,

today when i went for a drive i was hearing a weird wining noise as i sped up and took my foot of the throttle it was getting quieter and quieter when the car started to warm up more... checked my radiator fluid and checked my oils they all seem to be ok and the car is booked in for a major service either next week or the week after i seemed to think it was the turbo or something but i need a proper diagnostic please

regards chris

boost leak, or exhaust leak. Without hearing the sound or where it's coming from it's a bit hard to diagnose.

dont think its a leak in my boost got a digital boost gauge and always keep an eye on it to see if im boosting properly... it may well be a exhaust manifold leak... of some sort

Could still be a boost leak. If you're using an EBC that controls boost to a set pressure by reading the manifold pressure (like ViPEC ECU boost control) then you could be bleeding air before the manifold or point of measurement, which would make the ECU to allow more boost so the manifold reads the desired boost.

Or like has been suggested, it's more than likely a gasket leak somewhere on the exhaust side. The fact it shuts up as the car warms up supports this theory, as the exhaust parts expand towards each other closing the gap.

had a very similar sound recently with my r33 found out it was my power steering pump on its way out, when cold it would wine for the first few minets as car heated up it would dissapear. also to be safe pull you intake off your turbo and check out the compressor wheel if its been hitting YOU WILL KNOW when you see it, plus give it a spin by hand and see if its tight or hitting housing ( should spin freely), also check for shaft play (there should be stuff all ie:- side to side forward backwad :) ) better to be safe than sorry.
