in your first post you said you just want quick laptimes as you're sick of waiting for the sheets at track days etc. if that's really the case then the mychron is for you.

I'd still take my PerformanceBox over a MyChron any day of the week.

Knowing split times as you lap is an absolute must so you can break the track up in to 3 sectors and work on then individually rather than aiming for an overall laptime but then having zero clue which part of the track you improved on. The additional data provided by the gps is fantastic too!

no idea. no experience with it. the only thing that strikes me straight away is that 5hz is ok, 10hz would be much better though as at the moment it's sampling only 5 times per second. sorry "up to" 5 times per second...

Yeah there is 10Hz stuff on their website but I am so old school I have NFI what any of it does.

Just want a decent data logger that uses GPS & allows me to feed in other signals like rpm, TPS & steering angle. Teh GTAAAAH's have all that already wired into their systems but unless you spend alot of coin there doesn't appear to be an easy way of getting it into a logger with GPS.

Thanks for the help. After weighing up the options I've decided I'm a data-junkie so will go with the performance-box for Google-Earth-Import action. Can't see it being of any real value but looks cool

As long as the lap times are pretty accurate and are readable on-screen, then the rest (including split times, data logging etc) is a nice-to-have bonus. $AUD is good too ;)

I use a Nokia phone with RaceChrono on it, paired with a Holux M1000B GPS at 5hz. Does an absolute treat for laptimes.

In the past ive also used the same GPS, with an EeePC and the guts of a Wii remote for a G-sensor. Worked brilliantly until someone stole the laptop at the track.

interesting. so iv just confirmed after reviewing my video, that QR's timing is um, interesting

did a 4 lap uninterrupted run,

pause as i cross the finish line and write down the time on the video.

first lap = 2:02 = 122 seconds

end of 4th lap = 5:56 = 356 seconds

time to run 4 laps = 234 seconds, divided by 4 = 58.5 average.

QR's official timing:

59.155, 59.183, 59.899, 59.448 = 237.685 total.

3.6 seconds added over 4 laps. what the.

my racechrono GPS timing=

58.36, 58.26, 58.73, 58.48 = 233.83secs

i'll confirm my camera is accurate...

I had a terrible first experience with HarrysTimer last friday...... let me know how you can make it usable when you work it out Harry!

I bought a TomTom in-car kit like MrStabby has ($160) and the lap timing was spot on at Lakeside last weekend - eg fastest offical lap 59.17 vs iPhone 59.24. All the laps worked out that close to the offical times too. Split timing was good. The max and min speeds were realistic and consistent. Pretty happy. Would be much better if I could download the data onto the laptop... but it seems like you need an iPad + the "Trainer" app for that.

ps. any chance you've got some slicks I can buy/borrow/steal for the weekend? hehe

iPhone + Harry'sLapTimer + TomTom incar kit was accurate to within a few hundreths vs the transponder timing at Morgan Park last weekend.

So there you go Ben. Get yourself a TomTom in-car kit.

I'm sorry mate, I just saw this post! Of course I have some tyres you can boorow, but I'm afraid you might have needed them for Morgan Park?!

You know my number you should have called me!

You'll need to show me how to work the Harry timer properly mate, I'm a plug n play guy, not into learning new stuff. Seems anything new that goes into the grey matter, ejects something else of more importance!

no worries mate, I got some nice new Federals instead. Now I have to keep the car for another year or so!

Can do. Its pretty easy, and we might be able to bluetooth the track info across instead of making it from scratch. Going to Lakeside in Dec?

    • Plan on the day will be to park trackside. Depending on space availability we will try put a small shade tent and a few of the cars on top of the hill inside turn 3, this is an easy to get to parking area with views of Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4 and Turn 5 and limited other pieces of the view around the track. IMPORTANT NOTE! One consideration from previous years is from memory the trackside parking sells out before the admission tickets, for that reason I encourage anyone planning on coming to buy tickets for parking now via the official website; https://www.worldtimeattack.com/ The type of parking you are looking for is 2 Day Park & View (Access Around Venue) Vehicle Pass Only Please note this does not include admission to the event itself, remember to grab that also, and kids under 12 get in for free!

    • Good time for a carbon roof
    • Not in any way aroused by any of those, except maybe the big AMGs. And that would break my never a Euro, ever, rule.
