I think you point towards stuff you want to light up... but i haven't read the manual...

Pft no! I was at my cousins brothers sisters aunties uncles nephews sisters grandmothers daughters wedding and the awesome photographer had the flash pointing at the wall to the left side and not at the people he was taking photos of.

I asked him why and he said it's because if you point it at the wall, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. He said anyone who points a flash at the subject is a n00b....

ive had more success bouncing flash of ceilings than pointed at subjects. not sure if your being sarcastic or not tho, lol.

and that light painting shot is pretty sweet dude. i cant see the details in the wheels on my monitor, but i think in general if you can brighten them a bit that would be good. still better than any ive done so far.

might be getting a new camera soon, been checking out the canon g11 and i like what i see. they have just dropped to below $600 at jbhifi too, might see if i can convince the missus to loan me her GE card.

Hahaha Jay i was being sarcastic.

But as you've said, i never use direct flash. I always bounce. I was just taking the piss out of Owen :(

I've used a G11 before and they are awesome! Basically a compact DSLR.

If your on a super tight budget and can deal with an extreme entry level, Canons 1000D is on sale at clive peters for $600. Although for what you used to do, i wouldn't recommend it lol.

Yeah, on my monitor you can see all the detail in the wheels, but i guess my macbook pro needs calibration again because on every other monitor its dark, so i'll re-calibrate tonight with my spyder 3.

Overall, i'm pretty happy how it turned out, can't wait to do it at a proper location though.

Owen - Take a photo of the back of the flash. Pretty sure we could decipher what means what for you.

haha, yeah i was thinking you'd have to be taking the piss

yeah im liking the g11 because its pretty much a dslr, without the temptation of buying new lenses for it. some cool features packed in there too, like the built in ND filter (3 stops).

and considering the features in the g11 i dont think that any entry level DSLR of a similar price can compete really. can even do wireless flash with the g11 and with the lens tube thing i can use a CPL filter (58mm ring) so yeah it tics all my boxes (ooh, lol)

main reason im looking at the g11 is the nikon equivalent uses a proprietary RAW format and i wont be able to do conversions in photoshop using camera raw. i could buy and use their capture nx software, but from what ive read its windows only so meh, nikon loses a fan, lol.

Another reason why Noinkon sucks!! Hahahaha.

The main thing I'm scratching my head about is "Pilot"... there's also a LED for TTL. There's um.... fk it found an image

aw, dont be like that :D

if i ever get a DSLR again it will be Nikon, i still love them (just not their p&s cameras).

is the 'pilot' like a test button maybe?

EDIT: ah yep, thats what it is, good guess, haha...

A) don't be a lil NIKON hater. Join the nikonista's, leave the canonati. And together as father and son we can rule the galaxy... to much star wars?

I stopped at printer and will pick up tomorrow.:D

Also, my pimp biz cards arrived today. Might take a shot later.

Hahaha Jay - Canon FTW!!

Yep pilot button would be the test fire button as well as telling you that it is ready and re-cycled ready to be fired.

So used to seeing an LCD on the back lol...

TTL LED light would be to advise you that you are in TTL mode (Through-The-Lens) mode A.k.a. Auto mode. The flash predicts how much power is needed and what zoom to use.

Looks pretty simple from there. I assume there would be TTL mode and Manual mode. When the TTL LED is not lit up it is in manual mode.

Hahaha Jay - Canon FTW!!

cant we all just live together in peace and harmony? lol.

(when i get it) this will actually be the second canon ive owned. the first being an eos5000 film camera. will have to dig out some of the slides i took with it and get them scanned.

More 31 powah!!!!

I played around with my site tonight, tried to fix up the header and planning on creating a unified look and colour scheme across all materials. Cleaned up a couple other little things that were annoying me and I should add another feature car sometime next week. Have a look and get back to me if you have any feedback :P

www.mattheweveringham.com

Yeah, I'll print it out and have a look at it on paper, i like it, I think i like it more cos it shows how nice it is where i'll be living soon ;0

Nick, I looked on my home pc and i can only find 4. I'll be getting 5 today though, so you should be able to stop in at work and get it tomorrow if you're not to busy

Sweet, so where is the new place being built, Matt? Still in the 'Riff area?

Oh yeah, Dr's appointment tomorrow @ 1pm, then I'll give you a call. Thanks dude!

If you need CS5 for MAC or windows, let me know if your still struggling to get a copy.

Thanks Kory. I'm wondering if it'll be worth having LR v3.2 as well, who uses it? Is it worth having both CS5 and LR3, or just use the KISS theory (especially since I'm not that great with using PS)?

w00t! Looks nice Owen. Now i see why the 580EXII is so exxy to buy. Comes with metal hotshoe and weathersealed also.

For as cheap as this flash was i might pick one up. Although if it's better than my 580, i'll dis-own Canon :P

Take some snaps, you should buy a wireless trigger kit, so you can shoot with the flash off camera. lots of fun!

Needing to buy a wireless trigger can be avoided, see below...

Thinking about it :D Gotta let my bank account recover from this month first (oops). The manual is in Japanese (I think) so I'm having a fun time working out what the hell I'm meant to do with it :D

Okay, Kory, remember when we were having a quick chat about setting up your external flash to fire without using the wireless trigger? I've tried it with the new camera and it works the same way as with the 450D, so it should work for your camera too (and most likely yours, too, Owen). The only issue will be if you don't want to use your on-camera flash. Otherwise, set your flashes up in slave mode, and once you've set your on-camera flash to fire, it should signal the external flash(es) to go off. I'm pretty sure there is also a way to do it without the built-in (or a hot shoe-mounted) flash, but haven't read up and experimented with it yet...

Oh yeah, thinking about it, the external flash(es) should overpower the built-in flash anyway, so hopefully you'll still be able to get a nice even spread of light.

thought id have a go at a night shot of the 31 with the ol point and shoot

64604_1482536776484_1025781561_31126780_4760838_n.jpg

30 second exposure in starry night mode. lit with an LED torch covered with diffuser material, bare torch used on ground and behind car.

sucks that im getting so much green ambient light from the street light out front. if ive got the motivation i might go somewhere nice and dark tomorrow and try again

    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all! • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.
    • Hope the cans went down well at least
    • 255 can't go wrong with the price.
    • When I was replacing my pump due to being stranded in the wrong state, I went with the Deatschwerks 320lph kit. It is a direct plug in to the stock wires, harness, everything. It comes with a plug... but you can plug the OEM plug directly into this thing. https://justjap.com/products/deatschwerks-dw300-fuel-pump-nissan-s13-silvia-r32-r33-r34-skyline-c34-stagea?currency=AUD Downside: Won't actually flow that much on boost if you want to push it on E85, but it's comparable to the 040/255 etc. Little more actually.
