ok so after i bought my car and went to put some decent speakers in the rear and i realised that some farking moron had hacked up the back parcel shelf to put some cheap shitty 6x9 speakers in.. now this really shits me. i get really fussy about things like that, even with some decent 6x9s, i still cant secure them down properly because previous owner made such a dog's breakfast out of the speaker holes and screw mounts.

the speaker holes are very much beyond repair. even though no one sees them, it still annoys the crap out of me. i want the factory 6" holes back, like how nissan made it.

has anyone else ever replaced the parcel shelf in the back of an r32? is it a bolt off/bolt on job or is there cutting and welding involved?

I'm not 100% sure, but from what I remember its a whole fixture, part of the car etc so you would have to cut and weld etc. Why don't you look at using some sheet metal, gal steel or alloy and pop rivet or blind bolt it to the underside then cut new speaker holes in it where you want. Do this and then paint it up, you'll never spot the difference.

are you talking about the parcel shelf (carpet and chipboard etc) or the metal frame underneath?

Either way, just make yourself a new parcelshelf out of MDF and screw the speakers onto that.

Here is mine; http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Bu...l&hl=parcel

im talking about both the carpet, chipboard and metal frame underneath. the previous owner hacked up the lot. nice work on your shelf that looks nice!

so it looks like if i want the factory holes i'll have to do what tridentt150v suggested.. if its too munched to fix properly then i'll want to go down the path of replacing the metal frame entirely which would probably involve getting a donor car to cut one out of

not sure why i didnt think to do this before, i just looked up the parcel shelf on nissan fast and the whole parcel shelf (metal + carpet/chipboard) parts are the exact same in all R32's. sedan, coupe, gtr, they are identical. this means you shouldnt have to look hard to source a replacement from another car
