hi

i was just wondering if a light weight car would make more horsepower or not?

just thinking if a light weight car would have more power but would it make more horsepower on a dyno

i have asked lots of people some say that it would because some dynos are specially for engines and it gives you engine horsepower and the normal dyno gives you horsepower at wheels

so what do you think

Mate I would have a go at re-writing that

But I know that when they strap a car down, how hard it is strapped will have an effect on the power reading but i think its fairly marginal and would eliminate most of the "weight issue' that your talking about anyway

Your not talking about power to weight ratio? I cant quite understand half of your post.....

Yeah I really think he must mean power to weight ratio or something. No one could seriously think that an engine makes more power just because you remove two fat chicks from the back seat.

yup

this what i wanted to say

power to weight ratio

sorry for the english maby not lot of u people counld understand my english cus its my second language

and i was just asking and learn more from people

Weight has nothing to do with power. You will have better acceleration because there is less weight to move - that's it.

There is a car club in the USA that got a standard Nissan sentra and started from standard weight and pulled a 16sec 1/4 mile pass. Then completely stripped the panels so it only had the engine, floor pan and running gear and pulled a 12sec pass.

weight goes not change the power of the car the power is what the motor is putting out !!.

but a lighter car will allow you to make more use out of that power for example if you have a 300hp patrol and a 300hp minni the minni will be faster because theres less weight for the 300 horses to pull

I think it is safe to say this does not need to be discussed any furthur. I think 99% of people understand that a car that is lighter will be faster than a heavier car with the exact same horsepower output.

yes, is this very much correct. A Lightweight Car Make More Horsepower because The "torque loss" sensation is a similar phenomenon, except it's mainly a problem with driving habits.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

if i fit 22s on a 33 will it also make more horsepower?

Don't know about that one...

But it has being proven that if you paint your brake calibers red it will increase your power by 25rwkw & putting those flower stickers on the back window (like those you find in those Hyundai Excels, Getzs driven by girls) will furthur increase your power by 5rwkw per sticker.

a cars weight has nothing to do with "torque loss".

a car making "1000nm" will make it whether the car weighs in @ 1tonne or 2tonne.

drivetrain differences *might* have an impact, but it'll be minor for the sake of this topic.

And everyone knows there's 10rwkw in a TBI pod filter (the dyno graph on the back says so), and they're only like $15! So for $750 spent on TBI performance parts you can gain 500rwkw!

    • UPDATE: Hi all!  As we are getting towards the end of this thread where I’ll showcase final dyno numbers and graph, I wanted to provide an update. Tao from HyperGear has done an amazing job building the custom divided T3 housing for the G30. Communication was flawless, price was great, and now the housing is estimated to arrive in 7-10 days! Very very pleased. I must add, if someone is looking for an affordable turbo and end up reading this thread, I would recommend HyperGear. Genuine brands are the way to go as their proven reliability, predictable performance, and there’s a plethora of information available for specs, flow, and more. This HyperGear recommendation is based on their excellent communication, dedication, and willingness to listen to their customers. I particularly liked their ability to create custom adaptations tailored to specific needs, which is a HUGE benefit over other brands. And if we consider the HyperGear provided dyno results, it adds reassurance knowing their turbos can compete against genuine brands. Next update will be after the dyno!
    • I've previously seen people post up "dress up bolt kits" for RBs but don't remember seeing them specify the full contents. I can only really suggest you grab the verniers and start measuring, and keep in mind the cam cover and timing cover bolts are both quite specific with a wider unthreaded section where the bushes sit, that will make it hard to get aftermarket replacements which tend to be all thread (set screws) or for longer bolts a flat section with a shorter threaded section at the end
    • I believe there was a similar one posted by @duggyphresh. They were re-routing their battery positive cable in the way I am also trying to achieve. Sorry, I’m new to this forum, so was a bit late to the party by a few months and so reignited the old thread, as I wanted to know how they got on with doing it.
    • Wasn't there a thread on this very subject just a few weeks ago?
