Hi guys,

I was driving around for a fair while with a few leaks within the gasket and power steering hose. So this week i got everything fixed up mechanically. Whilst they were checking out the car they noticed my fuel tank was leaking and the seal had somehow moved to within my tank. So petrol was leaking from my car (Which explained my complaints about fuel usage). Anyway they had repaired everything and i finally got it back yesterday. I noticed whilst i was driving when i went to accelearate in a higher gear it would hold back and jolt slowly into acceleration. It was like there wasnt enough fuel being released and a leakage had occured. I also droved it last nite and noticed it had gone worse. I brought it back there this morning and the mechanic was a nice guy and took it for a drive. He was speeding most the way and hadnt noticed any jolting. Now when i drive it i slightly notice this jolt but only in higher gears (3 & 4). He had said it may be a missifing problem and my spark plugs may be old/not close enough. But i was driving around with these new spark plugs (2 months old) without any problems. Do you guys reckon theres more behind it and may be a fuel problem? or may i need to get new coil packs or tape my standard ones up?

Thankyou

What gap are you spark plugs at and how much boost are you running?

It could also be your coilpacks breaking down. Taping them COULD work for awhile but due to the heat the tape would get brittle and eventually break apart - and you wouldnt want that falling into the spark plug chamber as you remove them out next time!

I'm using NGK Iridium BPR5EIX.

Which I'm pretty sure is a 1.1mm gap. But what i dont get is that it shouldnt change what the engine was previously doing? all that was done was a rocket cover gasket change?

My guess is th at it is the coil packs that are the problem. Do you guys recommend the industry grade silicon in fixing the problem? So that it doesn't pollute and go everywhere.

cheers for the help guys

Try gapping your plugs like krishy said. Also with your coilpacks I coated them in high temp silicon which did the trick. If your spark plugs are gaped to 1.1mm then when your on high boost it will blow the spark out. Like blowing out a candle. Gapping them to 0.8mm will stop the spark from blowing out

fouled plugs could occur with a whole lot of other factors

hey its matt the 1 who checked your car on saturday and like i said u had alot of loose intercooler piping hose clamps and the pipes were close 2 coming out. so once i tightened them again there is a chance that there were leaks there but not anymore so the spark plugs could have been fould previously. so now it could b running how it should be and wanting to produce more power but cant due to fould plugs or faulty coilpacks.

anyway this is a mates account but let me know how u go if u do change plugs or coils.

Cheers guys

i'm gonna open it up tomorrow and have a look at it inside.

See what the hells making it missfire.

Cheers Matt ill let you know how it goes and thanks for the fix up's i appreciate it all..

I will firstly try out the spark plugs and then silicon up the coil packs should fix it :D

if it doesnt i will clean out the AFM & pod and see how that runs

if all fails does anyone have any other possible problems that may be causing it?

also make sure that all your cooler piping is tight as well....

if your AFM gets dry solder joints in it your ECU will go into limp mode

i have had mine fail twice now, first time intermittently it would cough and splutter as i would be driving and it would sort of fix it self, the 2nd time it wouldn't drive at all past 2500rpm

coil packs will normally be more top end, i would be going with intercooler piping as i have had all of the above happen to me lol, i replaced my fuel pump and all to find one elbow had a small split in it which made the car surge on acceleration

has the happen to me to steve then i has a full intecooler blow out went down port wakefield rd for 20 mins with hell black smoke to get home was a bad day lol, got home and the back of my car was totally black

    • Ayooo, been a while mates. I have a s2 r33 gtst and air stopped coming out of all the top vents.   My car has always made an actuator gear noise when turning the car on but that's a different issue I think? Did searches and am at process of thinking it's an actuator or some type of motor? I see a few different actuators and don't know which one. Would be nice to know if it was the one that's under the steering wheel so the dash doesn't need to come out.
    • Hi, just checking. Did you get this stuff made by Vspec Performance and at what price roughly? Looking into (sometime later) also getting such a intake kit, and Trust as well as HKS don't make a full set like this anymore.
