Limped My M35 Home

So basically I was going from a 60 to a 100 zone, car started reving up and making boost and the engine cut out, died completely.

Fortunately there wasnt much in the way of traffic and I had a mates following me in another car (we were going to go camping). The car struggled to turn over, but got there after a couple of attempts but sounded a bit spluttery and the engine light was on. Managed to limp it back home, but I it wont rev much past 2000 rpm, if I tried it would bounce the revs back and forth over a 100-200rpm range and surge almost like a bunny hop. We pulled in to a servo part way back, my mate was low on fuel. I didnt need to fill up but when I went to restart it it REALLY struggled to get going again, almost thought it wouldnt start up at all.

Ive tried to pull the ECU codes, got four zeros. Took the front end off to check the intercooler piping, and also checked the engine bay - all looks to be fine (Im not a mechanic by any stretch though)

Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions as to what I can do/check to isolate the problem?

Sounds like airflow meter Dunc, at least they have been sourced cheap now, around $80 or so new I think. I have no idea why the codes didnt come up...

Can you borrow somebody's to try?

Its possible to check an AFM with a multimeter, isnt it? Maybe I should give that a go

I take it there arent any AFMs that would work other than a unit off another M35?

Quite a few cars use the same airflow sensor but in a different housing, Subaru use it, and many VQ's like maxima.

i let scotty operate on mine too - and they arent repairable as per the older ones.

so will be a new/second hand one

they are available on yahoo auctions japan.

and before you try a 350Z one wont work as the adaptors are different.

unsure about the skyline v35 350gt but id imagine they are the same as the 350Z

mine did the exact thing about 4 months ago.

i was overtaking a car and was in boost when it died mid flight!!!

it was the air flow meter.

I remembered bits and pieces of your thread - couldnt remember the outcome or exactly what was the go. Its reassuring to hear that someone had the same problem and the fix wasnt too costly.

Time to get in contact with Jesse Streeter I guess, doubtful I'll be able to source one here for cheaper than what I can do on Yahoo auctions!

Airflow meter? Hope you get it sorted quickly.

AFM Nissan part number is 22680-6N211

It should be the same as used in the 2001-2007 X-trail and the 2000-2005 Pulsar

Or you could pick one up on Yahoo... they are routinely on there for under $30 (ex shipping & commission)

mate i had the same issues about two weeks ago, i only just managed to get my car home, i took out the air flow meter and sprayed it with contact cleaner and it worked an absolute charm, the car hasn't gone better, it's always worth a shot.

Have you run over anything? like a rock that could possibly squash your fuel lines?
