hi all... i was wondering if anyone of the gold coast area could tune this older safc.. should be easier from what ive been reading.. the dials and all, and on the back has a switch for nissan/and other cars.. wierd..

ive never had any tune before but would love something done... i think i need aftermarkey coil packs tho.. i loose power or spark in low revs and on 9 and up psi, i have to controll the throttle.. but, if the afm fixes so be it... but ignore it if its a issue..

i just dont want to pay all that cash for a pro tuner.. i dont have that cash at the moment, and prob will not save it for a while, studying still.. but itching for my car to run beta ..

i can pull my ecu out all ready to hook up.. ive hooked up a safc2 before.. but no idea about this one...

So, if someone is ok to do it and make some extra cash, let me know..

mods: 10psi boost (r32 wastegate)

r34 side mount

full exhaust/split dump pipe

3' cat

NGK IRIDIUM

and removed 2nd stage boost. so 10 always.. cant push car down low on 10. does not like it.

mild ish, compared to you guys :D thanx

PICTURE BELOW OF SAFC.. MABY ILL GET A APEXI IGNITION TIMING CONTROLLER AS WELL IF ITS WORTH IT>>??

I was thinking of buying a mines or brains spl remapped r33 gtst ecu.. i no they have issues with fuel..can they be fixed a little with this safc piggyed onto it?, or cannot fix that octane fuel issue on a remaped jap ecu..?.. thanx

personally id try and fix some of the issues before adding another item...

either ask a shop if they will do a quick single dyno run to see whats happening or start replacing/checking the things you are already thinking about (coils), also no point putting iridiums in...

id also personally not recommend a mines ecu or a brains... probably get a nistune if thats what your after.

another thing to take into consideration is if you are already wanting a different ecu and running a safc (and maybe the timing controller)... you could probably pick up a better ecu that would handle the lot for not much more money/time/hassel.

hey thanx fo the light tip.... i no i should get aftermarket coil packs hey.. think i just needed that sway on the mind abit...

when you say beta ecu?,, do you mean a stock chiped one?.. or a halteck or power fc.. bit outta my range...

all mines are chiped and tuned in japan right? . ive got a guy saying his a/f was very good, no rich or len.. and came with his car i think.. is that possbile, or full of crap.. he even said i can test it if i dont belive...

i think my coils are my issue on sparking.. not enough, and maby some boost cut.. well so called boost cut.. i think its the tps or something..

ill try the dyno thing you said..

so they can find more issues be running a dyno?,

they hook up a a/f guage?,, is that what they do?. or straight into ecu diagnostcs?..

sorry. never had a dyno, but always wanted to, just seems like money in the air some times, and gold coast has a bad rep for tuners.. im not really a fan of even the main guys here. they think they are car gods.. and there is no such thing.. hehe.. (noticed they only new cars tho..lol)

Just check the coils first, make sure there isnt any burn makings or white lines (similar to cartoon lightening strikes, as an example :S lol)

different ecu can be anything from a second hand PFC, Link, Microtech ect ect, all down to you and what you like/want and who you decide to go with with tuners.

Yes mines are tuned in Japan, so different fuel, your friend had his on the dyno to check that it was fine? has he got exactly the same mods on his car as you?

Can pick up a set of aftermarket coils for about $500 give or take. theres probably alot of maintence items that you can fix up to make the car alot better/smoother to drive.

I havnt had much experience on the coast here with tuners, i get mine done in brisbane, i might be able to ask if the workshop can do me a favour and run your car up on the dyno then you throw your friends ecu in and run it up again, see what its doing?

HOWEVER, i would strongly recommend fixing coils before throwing it on the dyno lol.

if you can wait till mid november i can help you out mate

i put one of these into my r32 and it was pretty easy

only thing you will want tho is a wide band o2 sensor and display, you may be able to borrow one if you can find a mech who road tunes and is nice enough to lend it to you or you could go ahead and buy your own

http://nistune.com/equipment-hardware-wideband.php

check out the widebands that are listed on that site, they aren't as expensive as you think

let me know if you want a hand, me and my mate can probable get your car up and running pretty well if you bring some beers for us :(

I'd recommend talking to Elite Racing Developments and EFI Performance.

Dan at ERD knows his way around skylines, and EFI will help you out with the ECU, they supply, fit and tune the Nistune board for around $1k.

Once I get some time and cash I'll be getting one, as my car is about as modded as yours.

oh and both are SAUQLD club sponsors. :(

hi, than again... i checked my coils 6 months ago.. and they looked great.. no dirt and real clean.. but maby they are going... i would love to take that dyno offer?.. how much does he normaly change as well?. incase im like, hey, can i pay for one..heheh.. think i might try and buy some coils or something... hey, are the stock coils good for higher boost in low revs?.. i feel like my spark isent good low down, but im perfect high up, even can have the boost spike a bit and no issue.. all in 5th gear and like 110kms or 120kms....

i was thinking of this mines with a fc, thougght i could maby fix the lean or rich with it... and yeah. he has the same mods.. but he has aftermarket coils.. he was saying 2 hours ago, that he has had it for 4 years, and his car is perfect stil.. i seen it, and it is.. never had smoke on any gears ever.. its crazy.. it does seem to have like 3 chips in there.. but, dont want to kill my engine slowly, would rather it die at its own pace.. but would love some skyline power now :(

sweet.. deal and deall. hey. i would love to do that in november.. woulds be great, and will give me a minute to try get a wideband a/f ratio gauge.. ive been looking for one now. seems like it sux doing anything without it ... yeah.. ill hit you guys up with beers.. ill get more then a couple for you guys :D

you installed a older style like this hey?.. thats sweet, so you have done this one before :(... thanx

yeah i've got the instruction book on pdf too

nistune is the best option but not available for r33's yet

power fc is the most common aftermarket but exxy at $1k+ used

if your just chasing a bit more power and better economy then this should do the trick, seemed to help in my 32

also, your probably best to replace your o2 sensor if its a bit sluggish in the lower rev range, www.kudosmotorsport.com about $77 if you go pick it up from nerang (i think)

damn man.. ive been looking at o2s as well. lol... so it could be a o2 sensor issue in low rev and higher boost.. only like 9psi 10 psi.. if thats 4 real... ill go get one asap.. and not find a cheaper deal online and wait.. i was saving for something else.. but if this helps?... im not a car pro.. but i no my skyline well. and have done afront end conversion and my gauges and check coils, and so on.. would it be a easy job to do my self?... oh replaced intake pipe down to turbo and , intercooler my self.. front mount.. just havent hooked it all up yet.. and done a walbro fuel pump, that was freaky a bit to me tho.. hehe.. thanx hey, do you no, if its ok to pop safc on a mines ecu?. would it be able to fix the leaning issues or rich issues?., or i comes down to the fuel ron difference and that cant be helped with a safc?. that part im unsure on hey :( thanx again

mines ecu's usually are tuned for a bit more boost and have speed/boost cut removed

so putting a safc is fine

a safc isn't the best way of tuning cos you have no control over the timing but if you need to add or remove a little bit of fuel they work fine

o2 isn't too hard, just getting the dam thing out is annoying cos its in a bit of a tight spot and they are usually really tight in there

thanx.. i was hoping the safc could help the mines ecu a bit with fueling... thanx 4 clearing that up.. hey yeah, i seen the o2 sensor.. annoying.. changed my coils tho.. and looks like it was a coil issue.. after 2 years of fixing this stupids issue and loosing all power down low.. it was coil packs.. damn invisible hair lines cracks.. :P still going for a ecu now.. but havent felt my cars power under 5k for like 3 years.. hehe

    • Great work! Give it a clean up with some Emery paper, and I'd run a thread die over the threads too to clean them up. It will make reinstall much easier, and also life easier for the next time it needs to come out.
    • I'm not a fan of high humidity, it's one reason I don't mind being further inland out Ipswich, except the last 3 odd years, the drought broke, and it won't stop raining, which is making the humidity nearly unbearable when the rains are in during summer! For me, my body hates the cold, once the cold sets into my body, I'm totally screwed. I end up with severe muscle spasm in my back/shoulder muscles, and it feels like someone is trying to tear the muscles out. I have no issues with it getting stupid hot, so long as the humidity goes away. So the last 3 years as above, have been woeful! Ha ha. However, June 1st, and I'm only just converting from shorts and a tee, to long pants and a t shirt. And that's mainly as it's a bit wet and miserable and I wanted to work on a car.
    • I much prefer colder weather to hot weather, and especially prefer cold to hot and humid, Goulburn does gets pretty warm in the hotter months, but, I've found the humidity there is not as painful as even Sydney, the humidity up north is to oppressing for this old rooster  In saying this, it does get rather "nippy" in Goulburn for early morning, late in the evening walks, but nothing that a layer or two, some thermal gloves, and a beanie doesn't fix to make it an enjoyable experience, which is much more bearable to me than the oppression of heat and humidity,  especially at night when your trying to sleep If I recall correctly, a "wise man" once said that the "Southern Tablelands" was gods country, and I will not argue that point with him for the fear of a "permaban" LOL In car part related news: My intake is currently in Botany getting processed for the last leg of its shipping journey to my door
    • Had a go at the stuck crush tube this afternoon. Tried things like grips and a chain wrench first but wouldn't just twist straight off. So got to work with a drill. Started small and kept a depth stop on to make sure I didn't drill into the bolt. Made a line of drill holes all the way up and enlarged them. Then a combination of chisel and Dremel to split it all the way up. Levered the split to get oil in there and eventually it gave a bit while levering. Worked it back and forth with loads more oil till it was spinning freely, then with grips I could work it downwards and off. And no significant damage to the bolt (not by me anyway - just the 27 years of rust)
    • Well, I'm tired. I'm tired because about 4PM yesterday, before today's appointment someone immediately bought my bumper. They couldn't get it any other day as they're on the way back to NSW. So I had to do that big GTR conversion I had been planning. Unfortunately, the information on SAU about what you need and how this is done is incomplete. So what should be a simple bolt on affair, yeah, it's not. Did you know if you use all GTR items the bonnet won't close? This little manuever sent me into about 1am the night before trying to dodge a way to get it closed. I will have to revisit this in the next few days  - or maybe not, I may let a body shop figure it out. It all needs to come up and my motivation to pull the bumper off is low. It also seems to hit things in the bay where the GTT bonnet didn't. Yes I used 100% new OEM GTR items. Today, I had the joy of driving to the dyno looking like this: Given I had roughed in the fuel and given sensible but pretty conservative timing, I didn't really bet on having the car drive out any real difference than when it drove in. Sadly due to a miscommunication and laptop fun and games (and almost bricking the dongle, prayers and firmware updates indeed), I ended up using HP Tuner credits to licence the car that was already licenced. So in the end my laptop was used. It turns out my butt dyno is still well calibrated after all this time. The 325kw was on 74% Ethanol, the 313kw line was on 98. The other line is the 'before' line which was 281kw. While the numbers are pretty low, they're pretty in line with what you'd expect. Even if US dynos bump the whole result up about 50KW, gaining 10-15% is similar gains.  The curve of the cam is pretty much spot on with what was discussed as well. All this said, it still feels bad to not see the number you secretly want to see. Even if the car drove great beforehand, and I knew pretty confidently the car would drive out much the same way it drove in due to the nature of a wellish dialled in LS1 not gaining much if anything at all from being tuned from where it was. As expected, the car isn't particularly sensitive to running it at anywhere between 12.0 and 13.0 - And the initial timing at 20deg and 12.0 made 308KW. So 3 degrees of timing, and leaning it out to 12.7 for 5kw, anything above stopped giving any benefit until E85 (which has an additional 2 deg as before). Car itself behaved entirely fine. I found out that 100C = 1.15V! IAT at about 7pm was 19C. I might mess with the bonnet mounting.. but given the REO NEEDS TO BE CHOPPED TO FIT A GTR BAR this is possibly something I may leave gathering (more) dust until it returns to paint jail.
