I know a lot of people are actually against this for various reasons, young guys having access to heavily modified cars at low costs, devalue of their own car (not even valid reason if you ask me)..etc. Trying to get off that a little though...

But for those in QLD specifically.. there is a good reason for penning at least something. If anybody has any intentions of getting into amature motorsport in future, either drift, sprint, or whatever else - the end of the 15 year rule will make it damn hard (and expensive) to be able to get into this area in future. Being able to bring in a modified GTS-X, old supra, S13, etc with enough useful mods to be able to get you on the track for under $15k will *be gone* in the not too distant future if this goes through. Seeing as the state offers much more in terms of unrestricted access to this sort of thing, it would be a pity to see that go.

Thank yourselves lucky that it *is* so accessible up here in QLD. I know in Victoria where I recently moved up from, amature motorsport is an entirely different thing - mainly only done by middle-aged or older people who have a lot of money to their name.... as they're the only ones who can afford the high costs involved. The "drift" scene in VIC as any organised sport is pretty much not-existant! A large part of that is the cost of initial car, as well I guess restrictive insurance costs, lack of tracks, cost of track hire that are available, etc. So well it would be shame to see that happen up here, as that is one of the many reasons I did in fact move up here.

It would be a shitter if that went. Maybe you don't/cant see yourself doing that now, but would like to in future, its worth considering what the longer term impact would be if say you did want a cheap 2nd hand jap car to take out their and thrash around on the weekends in a safe and controlled environment *one day*, and it also being road registered and not having to tow it on a trailer to/from events, etc (and the added costs of that also). Having access to such a car might no longer be affordable.

Predator - I’ve been a member of prestige motorsports for a while and also just got this email from them(5pm) "DOTARS WILL CHANGE the 15 year rule if we don't stop them. We CAN stop them, but we need your help right now to do it."

But not like you, i actually agree strongly with them and will help them to fight DOTARS at any cost!!!

you said - "I know a lot of people are actually against this for various reasons, young guys having access to heavily modified cars at low costs, devalue of their own car (not even valid reason if you ask me)..Etc. Trying to get off that a little though..."

Disagree mate, it's nothing to do with young guys... it's the damn dealers here who flooded the market with similar cars which caused the devaluation!!!

Wrong again man, i am from Vic too, i moved up 5yrs ago but still have lots of friends under 25 (not middle aged man) who drive same cars as we drive here in brissy, and actually, you can get same cars down there cheaper ;) if you know where to go:) parts ...insurance... not sure cause never had a Skyline when i was there.

the reason why they don't have so many clubs and meetings and events as QLD has is cause they're Not friendly at all down there, each one for themselves, took me 10 yrs to realize :):):) i love QLD, the best state!

All this story with DOTARS changing the rule is quite simple, YES middle aged man have more money and the stats shows they're safer on the roads than young guys and girls BUT this is just another scam trying to make more money out of anything they can, cause they can! in the last few years the import of sports cars have more than tripled so it's just too easy for them to make millions here from innocent young average hard working Australians, i think it suckssssssssssss big time and they should be stopped.

Hey, i'm not actually for them restricting it bro.. I was just saying "some people agree with them changing things" but that is not really me. I was more putting the emphasis on other reasons why people should be doing something about it.

Err?? aren't you agreeing with me? I was saying that for MOTORSPORT in melbourne, its much harder for younger people to do because of the restrictive costs. I never said young people didn't have imports or anything like that did I? Or that is was less than VIC? or anything like that!

But yeah, I'd agree VIC isn't as friendly up here.. or as good - why you think i moved up here? lol. There is an active car scene in Melb, but its more just hanging around or going on cruises. What I was SAYING was that not many can afford to get on the track. There is about 2 tracks in melbourne and the costs of racing on these are VERY high, and that is where I was saying a lot of the time only older people can afford to do MOTORSPORT.

Again I think you slightly miss the point, I wasn't making any judgement or saying anything about young drivers and imports, I was saying that IF in FUTURE another *reason* to do somethign about the changes to the 15 year rules would be if you were interested in getting possibly a 2nd car to get it out on the track. So thinking about not just now, but what you might want access to in the future.

Sorry, I had to clear this up.. I think you totally missed my points. Sorry for the misunderstanding! I didn't mix it up that much did I ?
