Looking into the Bits o fishi turbo range .

Ok , Mitsubishi or MHI (Heavy Industries) call their turbo sizes firstly by the turbine family ie TD04/TD05/TD06 etc .

There are different turbines in each group and from memory there are four or five in the TD06 range .

They are usually (from memory) 11 or 12 bladed and one that gets mentioned a lot is the Trust spec TD06SL-2 one . Its easy to pick because its a bit smaller than most other TD06 turbines on the OD and the faces of the blades have a pronounced rake opposite to the direction of rotation . I think 11 bladed and a fair bit of cropping on them compared to many MHI turbines . You could be forgiven for thinking that Trust wanted them slightly lighter and smaller because they are dimensionally an in between TD05/TD06 families . They are favourite when high flowing the reverse rotation twin scroll Evo 4-9 TD05 turbos because the fit easily inside their re machined turbine housings .

MHI have quite a range of compressor wheels and common ones are the 16/18/20G wheels of which the 16G is std on Evos 4-9 and the handle is TD05HR-16G6 . It breaks down into TD05H turbine/R- reverse rotation/16G compressor/6 bladed , actually 6/6 meaning 6 full height and 6 splitter or lower height blades . From memory if their is a HR"A" it means it has a Titanium Aluminide or TiAL TD05 turbine .

The 18 and 20G compressors are just larger trim versions of that 68mm OD compressor group .

I'll get shot but anyway the Americans don't like the 20G compressor and TD06SL-2 combination in Evo turbos because they reckon it makes the turbo laggy initially . An American mob called Forced Performance (FP) made up their own 5/5 bladed compressor wheel to roughly the same dimensions as the Mitsy 20G and found it worked better , it was the now superseded FP "Evo Green" turbo .

I think you probably need to think Trust to get a Mitsubishi based turbo on an RB because I'm not sure if MHI made TD06 turbine housings with a T3 mounting flange and integral wastegate . From what I've seen trust use a 3 bolt mounting so I guess you need their manifold to make it happen .

I tend to think that the 20G compressor would work quite well on a 2.5L six provided you could get a TD06 based turbine housing and wastegate system happening . My gut feeling is that a 2.5L six should make reasonable torque right down low and one of the TD06 turbines would make a good match . I wouldn't cry if such a turbo didn't have the Trust TD06SL-2 turbine because they are possibly a smidge small IMO , more of a 2L four or six sized turbo IMO .

I don't know a real lot about Trust T67s other than they are supposed to be a combination of TD06 turbine and TD07 compressor ? I don't know anything about TD07's because they are beyond the Evo crowds sphere of interest . I have read a few posts about 25G compressors being a bit how ya going but why that is I don't know .

Anyway Trust kits appear to be the ones used on RB sixes so if interested search them .

As mentioned Mark at GT Pumps has the drop on MHI turbos in Sydney and would probably be the one to talk to .

Cheers A .

Disco makes a good point in that Trust td06's are 3 bolt triangle flange, when i was putting together my turbo kit for my rb20 i purchased the turbo off nengun thinking it was a t3 flange. When she arrived bang 3 bolt, 6 boost helped me out with a manifold and an ex gate.

Managed to pull 310rwhp due to overboosting, full boost by 3500-4000rpm on an internally stock motor, was an absolute animal to drive but at the same time enjoyable

Just found this thread.

Could always go the T67 and if it is too responsive put a 10cm exhaust housing on it. If you can get one for around $700 you are laughing.

An RB25 turned on the same read 'hub dyno' was running a T67 8cm listed by Trust for SR20, it now has the 10cm as he was chasing power.

The 8cm on a 2.5L auto would have similar response, but I'm not sure what gearing is in the diff, 4:11?. Should go nice.

Disco is right, the L2 may be a smidgen too small, unless you can get a 10cm housing later to suit, however the compressor side may hold you back then.

There is no such thing as too responsive imo lol.

Ill do some more reading on what it is I what, I know Trent loves the T67 on RB25's which on paper are very similar to the 1jz's, So hopefully he see's this and can comment.

diff gearing is 4.09:1 to similar to the skylines the the trans is a bit longer geared then the r33 autos.

Ok I have a bit of a list now

TD06H20G - Comp Inducer - 52.5mm Exducer - 68mm. Turbine Exducer - 58.8mm Inducer - 67.14 mm 11 Blades

TD06SL2 20G - Comp Inducer - 52.5mm Exducer - 68mm. Turbine Exducer 54mm Inducer 61mm

TD06H 25G - Comp Inducer - 60.5mm Exducer 78mm Turbine Exducer - 58.8mm Inducer - 67.14 mm

T67 25G - Comp Inducer 60.5mm Exducer 78mm Turbine Exducer - 54mm Inducer 61mm

TD07 25G Comp Inducer - 60.5mm, Exducer 78mm Turbine Exducer 62.9mm Inducer 74mm

So by the looks of that as said before the T67 would be the choice for responce, but Will more than likely Choke a 2.5L six.

So now Im thinking that a TD06H25G with a 8cm housing might be the go?

run a TD06sh-25g or t67.

I had a soarer on the dyno yesterday (VB on SAU's mate) and it made 270kw on 19 psi (not on my dyno as gate diaphragm was split, we only saw 230 @ 14psi) it had a 8cm TD06s-25G

if it was mine i would fit a t67 10cm, 280-330rwkw easy, stock bottom end will piss it in. Ive used these with great success http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Turbocharger-Mitsub...=item4153621750

Sorry, I meant more along the lines of getting compressor surge because the comp cant flow the air. Worded it wrong.

Interesting that my TD06H-20G is bigger on the hotside. Might explain why it did perhaps perform a tad better then there very similar setup L2?!?!?!?! Dont think it really matters but interesting to know.

Fair enough, I saw on ebay 3" inlet comp housing with anti surge slots, so ill pron grab one of those too.

Yeah I always though it was the other way around.

run a TD06sh-25g or t67.

Do the T3 flanged ebay T67-25g bolt onto and standard manifold and clear everything?!?

As in could you use them as a bolt on option if you welded a gate onto the ass of the turbo?

Doesn't a T67 run TD06SL2 rear wheel?

Have a look all the spec's are here?

From what i can see there is no difference between a TD06SL2-25G and a T67 it looks to be the just Trust name for it?

Already covered

yup, you just need to run a spacer, we found the std manifold to be a restriction though (fitted a/m one and it gained more mid and top) those turbos support 315-330rwkw at 19-20psi out of the b0x on internally std rb25 (no cams etc).

l2 wheel is cut back significantly.

Speaking of which, Trent do you know of any low mount manifolds for the NON vvti 1jz. I can find heaps for the vvti versions but none for the early ones, I want to avoid a high mount manifold if I can and dont want to muck about with adapter plates and stuff to fit a 2jz manifold.

run a TD06sh-25g or t67.

I agree 100% great turbo for a stock motor, I have twins on a 26/30 and have a collection of them from tdo5-16g,18g tdo6 20g & sl2. They make huge power, are easy to rebuild, cheap and responsive. I have seen the kinugawa turbo on a stock rb25 and it hammered, not sure if it was the one above or this one Turbo seat of my pants felt like 300+ rwkw it was on a high mount ebay manifold and ebay gate too :ermm: cost him under a grand landed new a couple years ago.

    • 49719 is the cooler loop. Right at the front, LHS of that diagram. Return line from rack (LP side) goes to cooler loop on RHS front of car, then back under engine and returns to bottom of tank. 49717M is feed from tank to pump. HP line out of pump is thick rubber, followed by the hard line that runs down to crossmember and runs in parallel (but opposite flow direction) to the LP return line. Nothing goes anywhere near the firewall or interior of car. The closest they get to that is the connections on the rack.
    • Thanks, plan is to drain all fluid tomorrow and do smoke test to find out the leak.   Appreciate your help and want to understand how the system work. So cooling is achieved by the long loop not any rad? The diagram seems to suggest it connects to somewhere inside the cabin and I thought that is a cooler inside firewall. If you look at the diagram it seems to show it connects to something inside firewall. I tried chasing it but not easy unless I take loads off   i am confident pump is good as fluid goes in and it gets soft( steering) but as soon as I turn engine off , loads of bubble come to surface and overflow. When engine is on , fluid level is below minimum but when off it shoots off and thinking it is sucking air in. I suspect aluminium pipe may have a crack line or whole   smoke test with no fluid should be a good start and if needed will remove the pump   In addition, the one going under the engine bay is high pressure line and one directly connecting from pump to resorvoir is return/ low pressure?   finally I searched and suggestion is to use dexron 2 but that is discontinued so bought dexron 3 as all research suggest it is compatible and shouldn’t cause any issues/ blow seals. I bought two liter of dexron 3 motul atf
    • Don't worry about. Just don't try to drive hard enough to make boost and you'll be fine.
    • Yes. This has already been said. It is a loop of hardline in front of the radiator. Because.... the pump is on the LHS and the steering rack hydraulic connections are where they always are on a RHD steering rack....on the RHS. The high pressure line goes down under the engine, along the crossmember, like it does on all Skylines. Don't just throw expensive braided hoses/other kits at it. Work out what is wrong and fix that.
    • Still got the afm on the intake, clamps are shut tight, only loose hose is the one that goes from the j pipe towards the IACV, since it's next to impossible to find a factory hose and the barbs are different sizes (I'm still using clamps on this hose to try and help it seal on the iacv side) I've ordered parts to make up the hotside of the intercooler pipes, I'll plumb it in and see what happens in a few days I suppose The turbo's internally gated, can I just unscrew the tension rod to let the gate open?
