Still following your fantastic build. When you get there, I think it deserves a better than GTR spec engine.

nah, RB25 is fine. the mechanic I share my building with had to do a mazda MPS6 and the turbo job on that was $5k so a rebuild on a set of GTR turbos would get close and that is som thing I do not want.

also if you need a 4spd auto for yours I have one here.

started rubbing the surface rusted areas down with rust converter. did that before I left the shop and I'll clean it off early in the morning. took a few piccies as well. the next few weeks are going to be dedicated to cleaning the shell up (low on extra $$) so I can get it ready for the panel shop.

also found where the sills were cut in as well. there was a LOT of f'glass and filler in the forward areas around the outer drivers kick panel area. ground all of that out and it looks OK from a removal point of view.

one thing I negated to mention. doors are now off it. didn't realize that they were that much of a hindrance with them in place. I now have to find a place to put them.

new interior. that's pretty much all of it. the dash panel is at the shop wrapped up in a box. the plastics all have a think coat of Armour all on them. all of this came from a 89 GTR wreck.

the boot trim is not there but it is in great condition as well. I have ALL the bolts/screws/snaps for it as well.

The carpets are in quite good condition and I am still trying to find a way of storing it OTHER than folding it up..

original gear boot/radio trim panel. my original one was split in three places.

original handbrake trim/armrest panel. I'm impressed as most of this stuff is OVER 20 years old!

more new bits. this has been covered in armour all to keep it from drying out. these are the panels around the column. there was an alarm in the donor car (top left panel has a bezel in it.) and I'm probably going to replace that panel at some point as I tend to put my alarm LEDs in another spot. (the current idea is to find a security indicator out of a 90/91 mamixa and drop that into my dash.)

pictures do not really show the condition of these. the light spots are the flash. they are damn near new. aware of the $19 ones on ebay fitted several to customers cars.

have the lower GTR intercooler mounts now. seems very few people (wreckers) know that these things come off the car. mate of mine was scrapping a nose cut and I noticed them on it. 6 10mm nuts/bolts later they were mine. rubber mounts are missing though :(

got this tonight :

32 GTR rear bootlid and wing. did a contra deal with a mate of mine.

another view

now if I can keep doing contra deals over the next few months I should have a lot of this car back in one piece :)

tossed the boot lid on the car this morning

these showed up this morning. one full set of 17x7 Nissan BBS wheels. these are off a C34 260RS. tires are totally screwed but good enough for me to get an eye for tire size. I'll swap the centre caps to skyline ones once the car is finished. this was another contra job for a importer mate of mine. (ESP imports.)

quick update and marking off of things

---

engine at this point will be a RB25/30 with a PFC on it - WGNC34 RB25 with full harness - purchased.

Front end - GTR. I am doing this simply because somewhere over the last 21 yrs someone cut the front mount hole out of the drivers front area. so I may as well use it.

IN PROGRESS.

R33 intercooler purchased, R33 trans cooler - purchased, lower IC brackets purchased, GTR bonnet and front insert located. FRONT bumper - purchased.

brakes - R34 Brembo front and rear - STOPTECH front/rear brakes - located not yet purchased.

Interior - stock GTS4 - the seats are in good nick and after being given a few 32 GTRs for a week at a time I'm not really a fan of the seats for daily use. - Interior 90% done. still need to fix seats and get floor mats.

Wheels - 17" of some OEM variety. would like to do the stock 16"s but clearance on the brakes kills that idea. - WGNC34 17x7 260RS wheels - contra deal.

stock nissan radio from a Y61 Patrol. yes I own a car audio business, yes I caould have put what ever I wanted :P - I chose a stock radio for a reason - theft. no one wants them and this one supports a CD changer which in my case will be an ipod controller. so I have a radio,cd,tape, ipod. it does what I need. (I'm old and I have a car with a big stereo in it already) If I decide to do a sub in the car I will modify this unit. I have the 2114 schematics for it courtesy of clarion.

246625_2123858259273_1330376598_32557273_1325240_n.jpg

top shot showing model number. PN2114 is local PN2135 or PN2198 is Jap. internally they are the same bar the Tuner front ends. there is a doide setting that changes the firmware over to the appropriate model.

I have a 2198 at the shop that I modded to local but it has a drifting problem and wont stay on the station. (PLL isn't locking.) I found it easier to find a local unit and use that due to cost. (the 2114s are 10/11 years old and worth next to nothing.)

255440_2123881019842_1330376598_32557294_1448403_n.jpg

other reason I have this radio. it matches everything else in the car and I do not have to rewire it to suit the car.

looking at brakes :

they do a 6pot one as well. if I went that route though it would be more for looks/wow factor than actually stopping.

    • 2 does "sort of" applies, maybe......but looking at what parts would be needed for the swap to get engineered, registered, and insured, and basically that's everything under the car, the modifications the make it legal would be problematic and horrendously expensive, all for a street car that just cruises around and hits a few twisty roads on the weekends Also, from looking at the NSW rules and Regs, with all modifications that is required just to make the car safe and not twist itself to pieces, and then actually get registered for street use, may still be impossible nowadays As for 1, when you add in a fresh engine, fresh transmission, rear cradle and diff, tailshaft, suspension, brakes, cooling, and all the other fabrication required, your probably looking at up to $100k to do it right, all for a 20 year old MX5 that is over engineered and you would never be able to actually use the power it has on the street, much like your beastie, which I love, but you actually track that thing and can use all of its powers in anger, in a safe environment  Hell, the old Bogan Cruise Ship had more power than I could use on the street, and in hindsight, I went a bit silly on that thing, it didn't really need the 500hp it had for what I actually used the car for, it was fun, but basically unusable on the street if you value your licence  As for cams, yeah, I'll probably book it in for them to get installed and tuned soonish, like next month after MX5 Mania are back at work....... and yes, I've already sent a email to bin the turbo quote and quote instead to install cams and a new Fluidampr balancer that will suit the 2.5 better than the OEM 2.0 balancer that is swapped over for the 2.5 install, as the balancer needs to get pulled to time the cams it's a while your in there sort of thing I did think a bit about flex fuel for a laugh, but being na, and no where really around locally anymore to get E85, I've binned that idea, so no sweet sweet corn smells are set for the car I wish E85 was more of a standard fuel, it's better for the environment, better for tuning, plus that sweet sweet smell we all love As for fitting in the family, that's not needed, as everyone in the family already owns a car that can seat 5 humans comfortably enough, the MX5 is "my toy" As for buying a car that is already built, nah, I would rather pick and choose my parts, I enjoy the process, and in the big picture, the additional cost is well worth the enjoyment, and the occasional frustration, I get out of doing it, albeit with other people spinning the spanners, and me, just paying the invoice 🤣
    • Excuse me, but 2) does apply 1) Would also apply if you consider how much is spent in the alternatives. Also there's the option of 3), buy one pre-built that you can put your family in (it's me, it's my car)   That said, I went on a ~500km drive the other day. I didn't use anything more adventurous than 3rd/4th gear at about ~3000RPM and 50% throttle and I was going as fast as anyone has any sense doing on a public road, with enough grip to the point where I didn't want to go any faster. I was obviously under the limit of the current car etc etc. MX5 with 2.5 N/A to achieve the same speed would be more fun for any road scenario. Maybe consider cams. I wouldn't boost it. The use case is just not there and it won't actually make the car more enjoyable unless you really do plan on wringing gears from 1st to 3rd (at least) at 100% WOT on a public road to 150+kmh.
    • Great if: 1. You had all of the money for everything else that is required  2. Lived in a country where you could actually do this and drive it legally on the road Sadly, neither applies to me As for the turbo, I am having second thoughts, mainly for engineering/registration legality reasons and insurance  Not saying I've finished doing stupid things that I probably should do to the MX5, but boost, and V8 engine swaps isn't on the cards Strange, but true
    • I like this page, better than that silly turbo kit   https://v8roadsters.com/product-category/engine-conversions/engine-conversion-lsx/engine-conversion-lsx-nc/
    • That would be my Shoei helmet
