whizzn droped a LOT of stuff of today (ta! let me know when you need to borrow those lights :) ) now I have all the intercooler pipes and only need a BOV return pipe and then that part is complete.

I remember someone saying they had factory cruise on a 32 sedan. I would like to talk to you and get a photo or two of how the actuator is mounted. been looking at wrecks and it appears they all use the same setup with different mounting. also found a U13 bluebird with a leather wrapped wheel and cruise buttons on it. I will look at it over the next few days along side a R32 that is also sitting in the same yard and see if the wheel fits or not.

  • 2 weeks later...

rear guard is here. yet to pick it up but it has landed. once I pay for that it is a full strip of the thing again and then onto the panel shop for prep/fitting/paint.

spent a couple of hours building/testing door harnesses last night. both have been rebuilt to LOOK original but the drivers one now has a OEM actuator harness stubbed into it. I stil have to mod the body harness to take that so that it works from the original controller.

have a few images that I will put up later and a few new parts.

new rear shelf. this fixes the missing lower right corner problem I now have with the existing one. These ARE NOT cheap!

new rear shelf - close up for part number.

rebuilt harness for the drivers door. the one on the right has been redone to accept a factory actuator.

still yet to replace the body grommets. the oval one is hard to find intact.

the one on the left is a spare R32 item I pulled out of a trashed door. used it as a guide to place things.

close up showing the difference.

Plain R32 has a two pin plug on it for the central locking switch. these never had the actuator on the drivers side from factory.

Some of the GTRs had Dealer fitted keyless entry on them and they HAD this setup.

Tthe *new* harness has a 4pin plug to take the factory actuator and route is to the stock control box in the drivers kickpanel.

the plug part of the new harness was taken from a later RPS13 180SX as those HAVE the actuator in the drivers door.

to be honest if I didn't need a chassis number to register the thing I could pretty much build it from scratch. small brackets are dying out but all the major panels are around. that rear shelf was bought locally ex MLB and most of the car is ex MLB. trim bits are ex osaka for me but still available. the electrics are extinct that's why I an rebuilding some of the harnesses and changing the old ones over for newer ones.

one thing I DO need though it the rear fuel tank strap support (bottom of spare tire well rear of car - left side) as that bit is NOT available and everyone I have found has been rusted out.

Thats pretty cool that there is stock in aus

when you think about it these things are as popular as the VN commodore. parts are readily available for them and that's a good thing. don't need any more harnesses. I have 3 sets now.

nah they make more.... its only when the demand drops off on certain bits that they kill them off.

take a infiniti Q45 - try to buy bits for one of those. not a popular car and bits VERY hard to find new.

this thing I can pull up on my lookup list and get parts prices and the like quite easily.

to put it another way , if everyone keeps restoring R32 GTRs then the GTST or GTS4 will still live as well.

some parts are getting expensive though. the alloy GTR bonnet is a touch under $2k new..

are they still making them?

Most manufactures stop producing spares after 10 years

seem to be. every time I have asked they have said available ex japan and a short lead time OR a long lead time IF they had to make it.

very thorough build, keeping it stock why did you go for the rb25det and how are you keeping the awd?

would it be possible to get a rhr quarter panel, window seal that the window pushes up through and the the trim around the window on the drivers door for my gts4?

RB25 is from a C34 Stagea so 4wd. it stays stock apart from a intake swap. I kept the original GTS4 box as it is the SAME box as the GTR (with ratio changes) so that keeps it somewhat original. engine choice was easy for me. RB26 cost too much - RB20 too old and parts hard to find.

parts are easy to get. nissan have them providing you have money to source them as some are not cheap.

the door trim pieces ARE NOT cheap new. about $1200 for both sides ex osaka. yet to bother with these due to cost. working on body first.

I have a 32 sedan wreck in the backyard i'm scabbing bits out of for my build, i'll check that strap for you if you want

TA!!

When you look down into the spare tyre area about middle of the back wall you will see a bolt and nut pop up there that is the bracket I need.

the middle bit is what I am after. that is the top of it. I cannot find a decent shot of the thing. if you do have it chop around the panel and leave it intact. that way I can salvage it for mine.

    • From my bolts, standard M8 with 1.25mm thread pitch (M8x1.25mm).    Length is 19mm under the head and has a captive 18mm OD flat washer.   20mm length from a bolt shop is what you'll be able to get.   Make sure they're zinc plated.    If you're concerned about strength, grade 8.8 will be more than enough. Original PN is 01121-04971.  Now discontinued according to Amayama but that's because it's one of the parts that's been captured by the Heritage program, which explains the ridiculous price.   New PN is 01121-RHR20: https://nismodirect.com/nismo-heritage-bolt-pin-hinge-hood-bnr32-nissan-skyline-gt-r-01121-rhr20-01121-04971/ About AUD33 converted from Yen in the above link but that's just one example. Interesting that the hinge-to-body bolts are still available non-heritage.....PN 08116-8161G around $2 each (amayama).    Same thread but 16mm long.
    • Well, if that filter was impeding fluid flow, then it could have similar effects to faulty solenoids. The TCU will register a fault when it does something (ie, changes the state of a solenoid) and does not detect the required result. If there are other causes that can make the same lack of result, then they will be indistinguishable to the expected cause for which the TCU has a code.
    • Yellowjackets, red ones, blue ones (other than Splitfire) have all been demonstrated to be unreliable on turbo engines. That unreliability can be anything from outright failure (ie, 4 out of a set of 6 working out of the box) to just not being strong enough for the task, on a boosted engine. Not enough of us care about NA engines to know whether that unreliability is an issue for the undemanding needs of an NA RB20. I should think though that the DIS-008 should fit the 20. There's not really any reason for the head/coil mounting area to be any different on those 2 Neos. I wouldn't be buying Splitfires, or any other old tech coilpack, for a car in this day and age though. I would buy modern pencil coils and do what needs to be done to adapt them to the loom. That's relatively trivial these days, with numerous kits for fitting R35, or Audi, or Yaris/Corolla coils.
    • Keen to see how much work is needed to get an abandoned Skyline going. My R32 has been sitting idle for three years or so but finally got some time to get it going again. (Also lurking SAU and trying to hit 10 posts so I can start my own intro thread with pics)
    • Hi. Which coilpacks can i use in my engine? I looked at the Splitfire but the closest "match" i found was SP-DIS-008 but even that they do not show RB20DE NEO so iam not 100% sure. Or maybe different one which will 100% work? I saw many on ebay but they are some cheap "strange" ones. What about Yellow Jackets? Many thanks 🙂
