For a normal 550-550whp RB26 twin turbo ( so no point to overrev to 9-10k) What would be the best bang for the buck for a early 90 wo are prone to have oil pump problem ?

I was thinking:

N1 oil pump but I would need to set my rev limiter to 8k...

Standard oil pump with upgraded reimax gears.

ive got a custom oil pump going in mine.. my engine will have a lil more power than urs, ill get the full details when i get to my work pc.

i think for application the jun or tomei one would be sweet buddy.

No point revving the RB26 past peak power @ 6800rpm.

I currenctly have my rev limiter set at 7.4k. I'm just wondering if a N1 pump can take abuse up to 8k SAFELY ? or at 8k this pump is at his max capacity? Like anything.. I prefer to have some ''play'' aka slightly overkill.

N1 is 250 shipped

and I can get a N1 with rebuilted reimax gear for 600 shipped..

Just wondering if I really need to pay 350$ more for a 500-550whp limited at 7.4-8k ?

Sounds like you have a stock bottom end, given you have the older oil drive etc.

Which then would worry me why you'd try to run 370-400rwkw through that bottom end.

Regardless of the oil pump, trying to push that much is going to end in tears regardless of what you do with the pump

Nevermind this issue. One thing at a time. I will be rebuilding my RB26. right now, I'm thinking about the oil pump.

nitto oil pump $1300 same as all the other more expensive jap pumps and yeh ull need a crank collar but if your rebuilding then just get an r33 gtr crank so u dont ned the collar

So why are you buying bigger oil pumps on a small collar now then? IMO thats a more important issue any anything else.

Why not just do the smart thing and peg the power back a bit until you rebuild?

Having the small snout - as i said earlier - makes you more likely to bust stuff regardless of the pump you decide to use.

you could spent upwards of $1700 on a Tomei pump, for nothing!

And it's the reason Nissan clearly changed the design within a matter of years!

So your saying I should only change my crank instead of changing my oil pump ?

I'm saying changing the oil pump is not going to magically save your stock motor @ those power levels and you will still potentially have a failure due to the smaller drive.

Especially trying to pump 400rwkw through it.

If it was 300rwkw, no problem. Most R32 GTR motor owners know they are on borrowed time even @ that power level (for one or another reason).

I wouldn't buy a $$$ pump now, just run the motor till it dies and then follow your rebuild plan.

I understand your point. I was wondering because I saw on a local forum someone selling his N1 pump with reimax gear for 600$ ( and it might be cheaper since i might buy other stuff from him). Considering a reimax kit is worth like 700$+ the pump. I think it's a good deal. It doesn't mean I will be fitting the pump right now. I will when the rebuilt times will come. ( might be next winter, I'm slowly purchasing everything I need).

ur best off just waiting alittle longer and buy new. if i was spending the money to build an engine (which i already have) i wouldnt wana do it half ass and put in second hand parts.

sure it might take a little longer to save and buy but at least u will have piece of mind that your parts wont fail.

do it right the 1st time round

    • How's your first born doing? 😛 As for now what? Time to forget about it for 12 to 18 months while your go down a totally unrelated rabbit hole... 😛
    • Fuse taps are perfectly fine to use, especially when you're adding stuff for your own car, and so long as you're being smart about it. IE, don't throw a 30amp circuit, onto a circuit that is only a small circuit. It's best to add a small circuit, to one that is already quite large. Oh, and make sure you're not going to blow the fuses that are further upstream too! I dislike their use in other applications, such as alarms, telematics/tracking devices etc, as it's far too easy for someone to unplug them and render a system useless. Those sorts of devices I go for wiring in quite secretively.
    • Fob is all cleaned up and it’s working well!! The amount of Vegemite looking sh*t that was in there is mind blowing 
    • Given it is temporary, I bought a  cheapy gauge mount (which has become enflattened) which I will screw into the existing phone mount Also a first for me; given this is a temporary install I could not think of any reason not to use one of those "add a fuse" thingies to source the battery and IGN power. I had always figured they were pretty dodgy but having a good look at them I think they are a valid option for sourcing power from an existing source without cutting 
    • Finally for now, a bit more work on the transmission temp gauge. I was wondering how Raceworks do a gauge for $100 that autometer want $500 for. No idea about the accuracy of course, but they have cut a few corners that made things hard.  First one I mentioned above, the sender is physically difficult to fit and doesn't work with their own adapters (the extra fittings I used to get the sender into a hose cost more than the whole gauge, lucky I had stuff in the shed) Second, the temp sender wires are way too short. They are shown as 2.7m on the box and I know my routing was long from navigator headlight to driver's firewall back to centre console, but I had to lengthen them by about 2m total - 2 joins in each wire. Also, same with the supplied power loom, they needed about an extra 1m to get the fuse box where I sourced power. Another join in each wire since one end wasn't supplied terminated. I know they could argue that the wires might be long enough depending on situation, but when you consider parts and particularly labour, it would be a very expensive cheap gauge if you can't do the work yourself. And, only a small issue....but it would have been nice if they remembered to tap a tread onto *both* spacers they supplied for the bracket....I haven't had to use the M4 tap often!
