Can anyone tell me if it is Autech or Nissan that puts the RB26DETT into the 260RS? I have been told that my car is in fact not a 260RS, but a rs four with an engine conversion and Autech body kit. The plate in the engineering bay says the vehicle should have a RB25DET in the engine bay.

Have I been sold a dud?

Dont be alarmed yet mate.

260's have a rb25det engine on the plate in the bay.....

Does it have cupholders in the front?

Fair enough, I didnt know that was the case.

Cupholders or no cupholders, anyone can replicate the real deal. But running your vin through fast is the easiest and fastest way to know.

Yup, FAST is the best way to know for sure as the other guys have said.

Another indicator its not the real deal, is if in the middle of your cluster theres a line going down that has P R N D 2 1 on it. 260's have this covered up by a strip of plastic i believe. Although you can cover it on a manual conversion as well, it's often left alone.

No cup holders, all 260s have 25det on engine plaque, check if it has hicas, diff lock button, s1 will have to have the shifter hole cut with grinder, post up vin and u will know, also

Check ur brakes, if theres no disc covers uve got dramas.... One easy way to tell, if your suspension has forks at the bottom its 260, if eyelet its rs4...

First of all, give us more details as possible.

1. Where did you buy it from?

2. How much you paid for it?

Here gpes abput 260Rs.

1. Does it have 17" BBs wheels silver color on it?

2, Does it have brembo brakes on it?

3. 260Rs are only avail in manual.

4. Check on the rear of the boot. Drivers side. theres shuld be a panel that you can pop, open it up and see wheter theres a little bottle containing ATF? only 260rs have this.

All 260rs plate stated its RB25 engine in it. Autech bought the chasis from Nissan off the assembling line without the engine and they whack on the rb26 engine in it.

If you answered yes on question 2,3 and 4. It is a 260rs. Unless theres some guy craxy enough to imitate 260rs that close.

Hope this help.

My 2C worth.

It has after market wheels on it. Definitely has brembo's. Also got the fluid in the right rear of the boot.

Guys thankyou for your help. Especially Yudy. I have had the car for 3weeks and as soon as I saw the plate with RB25DET on it, I thought I had been ripped off. I was too embarrassed to ask the forum for help. Even booked myself into a solicitor this week.

I did use the "vins fasted" thread. All I could get out of it was it was supposed to have a bloody RB25 in it.

Thanks once again.

WRONG

EVERY 4 wheel drive stag has that bottle of attessa in the boot.

Global Warmer, the only way to tell is to FAST your car and if its a autech it will show that its an Autech Vehicle. I believe a pop up comes up when you first type in your vin.

Im a tad concerned about your Fast results I saw them in the thread when It was first done. I'm also concerned with the ammount of incorrect information that gets thrown around these forums of the late.

Deal with people that know these cars insideout. Talk to chefstagea hes had 2 rsfours and a 260...

Too true... Time to pul out a ripper... Jump under the car... Between the gbox and the engine the chassie rails will sloap from back on engine head area down on a 45 degree angle and level out nere the beggining of the...ONLY autechs have a brace bar on the angled bit!! (there are after market ones but its probs the rarest mod ive seen in my days!

At tge end of the day, a simple trip to the engine bay with a pen and paper will sort apples from oranges :D

Autechs never had sunroofs either btw! And the adjustment on the strut brace is on the center not the side like rs4.

Is your car manual or auto? and is it an S1 or S2?.

the info i provide is only a guide line. like what other member stated only autech have a reinforcement brace in the middle. You also forgot to mention does your car have the bodykit? post up some pics. im just trying goign tohrough the process of elimination. Heres a pic of my 260Rs. its not a very good shot though.

Car has NO sunroofs. It is a series 1. Adjustment for the engine strut brace it on the centre. The transmision is Manual. Vehicle has a full Autech bodykit. Vehicle was a private sale from Sydney. It cost $27,000. No cup holders in the front (but i think the Blitz boost controller and turbo timer are in it position). Line in the middle of the speedo and tacho is blank (cannot see PRND321). the is a brace in place between the gearbox and the engine underneath the car.

My reason for concern all stemed from this... I took the car for a full service after purchaseing it to a company that imports Jap cars into Aus. As soon as i popped the bonnet, this fella turns around and tells me this is not a genuine Autech but infact it is an rsfour that has been well modified to look like one. Now, I was going to import a 260RS through this fella but at the last minute I decided against it and purchased this particular 260RS through a private sale.

Everything you guys are tellin me so far is making me feel more confident that this is a genuine 260. So, why did this fella tell me it was a fake? Was he trying to piss me off because I did not import one from him? I dunno... But for the last 3 weeks I have not driven the car and was kickin meself cause this fella also told me I have paid $10,000 - $8000 too much for this vehicle (because it was a copy).

I have been emailing Mines in Japan as I was led to believe they modified it before it got imported to Aus. They do not know the car, but have ben so helpful. The checked all the VIN and Chassis numbers on a Nissan Database and tell me it has confirmed it is a genuine Autech 260RS.

To all the guys involved in this thread, thankyou for your help. Now its time to go for a spin and start to enjoy this car

Nice car. Looks as though it used to have a rear strut brace. Maybe they took it out when they fitted the roll cage.

And he put it back in before i purchased it. I did not realise it was not installed till I saw these photos myself!

i just re-ran the vin you posted through fast i got the same result as you posted above. Now here is what an autech vin looks like after entered into fast:

post-34711-1286772314_thumb.jpg

notice it comes up with the blue autech vehicles prompt, and the "Model Series is AWC34" where normal stagea's are just WC34. also notice how the data fields actually say the engine is RB26DETT and the transmission is manual, MT. another thing that looks a little bit sus is that your cars colour is KR4 which i'm pretty sure is silver

Yes KR4 is SILVER.

Looks to be a well hidden rsfour to me :)

    • I replaced the whole clutch line with the chase bays braided hose, I think it removes that loop, is it the short hose that comes immediately off the slave or is there a drawing in the manual to find what you’re referring to? It was just re-bled when I upgraded to the nismo slave, old slave worked fine but I thought that might help, didn’t change a thing. It’s like the first half of the pedal is pushing air and then when it finally actuates the master the friction zone is tiny. Makes it practically impossible to launch the car
    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
