November 2007 V36 Coupe picked up June 2010 with 15,000 K. I figure it was 2 and a bit years old when it left Japan and although 15,000K is low it's not as unrealistic as say 25,000 on an 03 V35.

Now i can be suspicious by nature. Some things that make me think it's not correct are a few more stone chips than i would imagine for a low KM car and the fact that there were no books in the glove box at all. Also I am getting some brake shudder which doesn't seems normal, does it?

On the positive, the interior is practically new with the exception of a few marks. The trim around the start button has a crack which has been glued, but i think this was done in Australia when the immobilizer was fitted.

Also the brake rotors don't look like they have seen to many KMS and the wheels only have a few minor marks.

Anyway, love the car and got a cracking deal on it (the cheapest black V36 370 GT Type S I have seen anywhere) so I don't really care about the e KMS. Over the next four years I'm likely to do about 100,000 KMS in it anyway and as long as it gets lots of oil changes in between and i don't drive it too hard, too often, I'm sure it will be fine.

My service history was sent to me with additional papers even before i got the car delivered which i though was standard practice? Also, mine only had 7,767km's and it was 2 and a half years old so maybe mine was definitely wound back but the log book all verifies that its ok and not tampered with.

Mine had a few marks on the stock rims which i wasn't too happy about as i was not told about this before bidding for the vehicle but this could have happened whilst in transit from Japan. Plus i have heard that the guys at the wharfs don't put much care into loading/unloading vehicles and they have been caught stealing things bits and peices out of cars so now security apparently escorts them or something? Thats what i was told anyway, whether or not that makes a difference who knows, probably not.

Brake shudder is not normal, especially for a new car like that. Maybe get it checked oot otherwise it may lead to bigger problems like having to change the rotors, maybe your rotors need machining?

Is yours a 6 spd manual?

The brake shudder is only slight but worse when the brakes are hot. 20,000 service coming up so I'll get them checked then.

Is yours a 6 spd manual?

6 speed manual would be nice. Mine is the 5 speed flappy paddle box but I'm getting used to it.

I was planning to import one through an agent but the dealer offered me his stock test car at a great price and I decided it would be better to buy that one rather than take the risk on the unknown. Mine was the first to be complied in Vic. Until June when I picked it up all cars had to be complied in NSW or QLD.

As far as the KMS are concerned, it is reasonable to consider that they are genuine. After all I don't believe a V36 Coupe is used as a daily drive or family car in Japan. Perhaps something for the weekend or a second car for the wealthy. Another good indication to the type of person that owned the car previously is the music collection stored on the hard drive. Mine had a selection of ABBA, The Beatles and some Classical stuff. This pleased me somewhat, as i don't suppose that you would thrash a car whilst listening to Tchaikovsky, unless you are the Stig.

Needless to say i figured out how to restore the HDD to factory settings thus erasing all traces of the former owners liking of Seventies Scandinavian wife swappers.

So the Japanese do listen to english songs huh? :D

Also with those songs you know the previous owner is a mature driver, less likely to thrash the car unlike some 21 yo Jap drifter.

mine had 40.000 on it.

no wear, looked perfect. just bit dusty form the import i guess.

The weird thing was that it was on 40000 exact. not a k less or more....

Im sure someone plays with it before import. However it is nothing compared what you get when you purchase a V...

Very happy with the car.

bought mine 5 yrs ago with 85.000 ks car was cleans as no wear anywhere pedal rubbers seats steering wheel ect ect . was the cleanest one i could find and i looked for ages .

5 yrs later still as clean as and has done 115.000 ks or about 6000 ks a year never gets driven in winter if i can avoid it mainly used to travell to and from speedways during the summer best car i have ever owned and in another 5 yrs will prob have less than a 150.000 ks on it lol r33 btw

    • Surely the merged entity will be called "Honda" given the relative company values. I've got to be honest, I don't understand how merging 2 companies that missed EVs (despite Nissan making the first mass produced one) will solve their problems
    • If you haven't bought the ECU yet, I would strongly consider buying a modern ECU. Yes it is very easy to setup and tune, however it is lacking many of the features of a modern ECU. The pro plug in is something like 10 or 12 years old now? Can't remember exactly but it is very dated now. In that time the Elite was released and now we have the Nexus platform.  I would strongly consider not buying the ECU that is 3 generations old now (especially as it isn't a cheap ECU!).

    • Sorry I should have been more clear with the previous post.  The block is a sanding block - picture something like this https://motorguard.com/product/motor-guard-bgr161-bgr16-1-rigid-psa-sanding-block-2-5-8-x-16/ The guide coat is the paint It's two separate things I was talking about, there is no "block guide coat". 
    • Maybe more accurately, you aren't just dulling the existing paint, you are giving the new paint something to 'grab on to'. By sanding the existing paint, you're creating a bunch of pores for the new paint to hook on to.  You can lay new paint over existing paint without sanding it, might last a year or two then sad times. The paint will peal/flake off in huge chunks. By sanding it, the new paint is able to hang onto it and won't flake off.  Depends on the primer you are using. When you buy your paint, as the paint supplier what grit of sand paper to use before you lay down the primer.  Use whatever you like as a guide coat. Pick a colour that really stands out in contrast to the paint. So say your sanding/painting a currently white car, using a black guide coat would work well. You very lightly lay the black guide coat down, then as you sand the car with the large block, all the high spots and low spots will stand out as the black paint is sanded off (or isn't sanded off).  When you buy your paint, hit up your supplier for recommendations for what paint to use for a guide coat if you're unsure what would work well with your setup.
