Omg!@# Oil Spraying Out My Bov???

Recommended Posts

Ok people, this is damage controll, I went drifting at the recent willowbank drift meet....yes im extra smart, stock turbo, stock cooler, stock suspension.....FOURTEEN PSI!@#$ WHOOOPS!!!

<---- there i am at willowbank, see any oil? lololol...."points to avtar"

So anyway, yep, drifting sweet....REDLINE...then I hear SSSPPPRRRAAAAYYY!!!.. i thought my turbo came to bits...so I went into the pits, and here is my dipstick, half hanging out...oil everywhere....look at my bov, oil everywhere....bonnet - oil...lol

so i kept drifting like a true champion would...brrt....and now im gonna pay for it...

can someone tell me the extent of the damage i have prolly done? and what would have broken to let all that oil into my IC piping?

and yes..the night before i changed my oil and put too much in...C.H.A.M.P! replace "A' with "U"

anyone want a skyline? lol....

It could just be that you need a catch can etc.

DJ_lethal has the same problem with his 33.

his BOV leaks oil on and off depending on driving.

But it could just be the turbo has given up the ghost.

Nothing too major i would be thinking

Been here before. Bad news is if your blowing our the dipstick with any regularity it would be blowby pressure causing it, usually associated with broken rings/ring lands from detonation. It blows oil out of the cam covers into the intake, through the compressor, fills your intercooler, into the engine and huge clouds of smoke everywhere. Also would be coming out your BOV.

Diagnosis....get a leakdown test/compression test and be prepared to order new pistons, rings and engine machining.

Sorry to really cruel the buzz. You should look into the cause of the detonation. Mine was a compressor seal leak that dumped in oil at hight load causing the detonation but the result is the same.

Seen an RB20DET blow it oil seals before and have the same sorta effect, oil everywhere and give it a rev and it blows out of the bov. I was expecting it to have more damage but once I replaced the turbo on it (and put the 3ltrs (!) of oil it had blown out of it back in) it ran fine, didn't blow out the dipstick any more either much to my suprise. So you might be lucky and just need another turbo... or at worse you might need a new motor... Have fun...

Umm, im not 100% sure but what i do know is that it is a Shell product with no synthetics and its got 50+ viscosity? I got it off my mechanic who is sponcerd by shell...he uses it in his 2004 sti wrx in the ARC...so i figured my engine might like it ;) obviously not if its spitten it up... haha.

umm yeah about blowing out the dipstick...

I have had this problem ever since my car was TUNED, by a specific Performance place. It had never done this before, however now it does. As soon as I saw the dipstick had "popped up" I thought bad stuff, and yeah I had sat down and thought about it and come to the conclusion that it must be shot rings to allow the blow-by to pressurise the sump and blow out the dipstick.

I was worried, but I thought that it may also be because The oil breather line was not plumbed into the intake, it was just cut off and blocked, installed oil catch can and yeah it still blows out.

The mods I have are: FMIC, Button clutch (great for skids) 600hp in tank pump, SAFC, And the turbo is a T3 highflow. It is making 205RWKW on 15psi. If my rings were blown would it still be making this power? No oil smoke when dumped/revved or anything, just runs like a dream. should I notice anything in particular? By the way this has been going on for 6 months and no drop in performance. Engine has 73,000km on it.

Lol, well i talked to my mechanic friend, seems to him that cus i put too much oil in, and that my rings are most likely warn, that at the tempreature i was drifting in made my oil go too thin and slip past the rings and into the PCV which then put excess pressure on my sump, theirfore creating more pressure on the crank case, causing the blow out and oil in my intercooler piping and bov and what not....my turbo is still boosting....so im thinking that its ok......BUT NEWS JUST IN, I JUST GOT BEATEN BY A VTSS WITH 5 PEOPLE IN IT....this is unheard of......somthing HAS to be wrong....poor me...beaten by a vt....and i even brag about how much i eat them for lunch... he even pretended to row a boat past me when i pretended to whip my hourse....oh the pain, the pain of it all...hahaah...
