I joined the NISSAN DATSUN SPORTS OWNERS CLUB last thursday night and I was wondering if any of you would be interested. On the night two R34 GTR's and a R32GTR joined up along with my R32gts-t so there are a few skylines not to mention a few in the car park and others I don't yet know about. It would be awesome if we were able to get a large number of skylines out at some of the club sprints they hold to show people what skylines really can do. The cost was only $65 membership plus around $80 for a CAMS licence (allows you to race around most of the tracks in Vic) which I still need to get. Come on guys come and play!

If you have any questions I might be able to answer them.

By what I worked out the skyline club was going to be non- profit and they were going to try and be affliliated with a club like the NDSOC ( I spoke to one of the guys about it at BMT dyno day) so they could do track days and hill climbs. It saves the headache of organizing licences with CAMS and booking tracks plus all the paperwork involved in running a profitable club. That what I got out of it anyway and I was getting desperate to go for a thrash around some tracks and you need to be a memder of a club to get your cams licence and I figured why not them.

er why? I'm sure the input could help with the organisation of things...

and I do believe we were investigating either a full cams affiliation (total cost $880 for up to 100 members) the cost of which will be divided up evenly amongst the members (best case scenario $8.80 per member, worst case scenaro $22 per member). The next bracket down is a club of 40 members and we should be able to meet that pretty easily.

It just makes it a whole lot easier to organise events hire venues.

The only problem then is that the venues cost a crapload to hire. Now... we can either pass these costs onto you, the member at the event with some stupid amounts of money (eg: $150+ for a full day of 1/4mile drags, provided 20 people attend) or we can affiliate ourselves with another CAMS affiliated club and then hold joint events. Given that you won't get as many runs in as you'd like since there are a lot more competitors, but at least its gonna be a lot more affordable.

Basically it comes down to this... how much are you willing to support the club, given its costs. Most of the guys one this forum, like it or not, in the past have never put their money where their mouths are (or shown up when they've promised to). So we do have to tread carefully and invest carefully.

Thread re-opened. However no verbal bashings and speculations, only ideas and suggestions.

it was decided a long time ago that due to the money factor and ease of administration that at this point in time this club will be simply a social club with an affiliation with a club like NDSOC so that those that want to do track days will be able to do so with them at an extra cost.

we have a 30 page thread with all the ideas and so forth archived already with the discussion so i would say most ideas have already been put fwd. but suggestions would always be welcome... providing they are proactive and thought through.

Ok - I was at the NDSOC as one of the new guys at the meeting with the R34.

*waves to RowdyR32*

The Skyline club *SAUVIC* as I understand it are meant to be a social club including events like MAS and cruises etc, where as the major benifit with NDSOC is the CAMS affiliation.

During my meeting last week at NDSOC however, I spoke to some of the committee memebers there and spoke about the formation of our social club. Those of you who are already NDSOC members will know of the affiliated club the Princes Skylines who act as a seperate social club but are affiliated with NDSOC. They have suggested the we possibly do the same thing. I have mentioned this to James and Im sure it is something that the SAUVIC committee will discuss when we get together - but there are possibilites for those wanting CAMS that may be able to be worked out involving both clubs.

There are also other options involving the new AASA that have aligned themselves with Calder and now Winton which means we may be able to do some track type events without CAMS memberships. (I have heard of a $10 AASA day licence mentioned but it needs to be investigated further.)

If you organise a donation section like christian did i dont mind donating $50-$100 towards the club, but as long as it actually goes somewhere.

If we ever to organise track days etc i dont think 90% of the members here could afford to attend coz most are under 21 and still at uni/tafe and cant afford it which suxs as its the best part of a car club.

this way they still get to be apart of the club and come on cruises and BBQs etc with the OPTION of being able to do a track day if they can afford it.

Howdy RowdyR32. I was there also and was talking with Snowman a lot of the night. I have been a member about 6 months with NDSOC and we could do worse by following this route for affiliation.

They are well run and friendly and we stand to lose nothing by doing it this way, but, if a social event gets out of control we could expect a backlash and discipline. Food for thought but I would expect those interested in joining would do so to hit the track, participate in the social aspects or do concourse show events.

No room for showboating...this is a serious club. I'll put my hand up for financial support of SAU Vic but will also remain NDSOC for the racing.

I agree Geoff. NDSOC is a very well orgainsied car club, and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get into the CAMS side of things (although they do a lot more than just CAMS stuff). Through them you can do things such as volunteer for a shift in the show and shine section of the GP.... then get free passes for the rest of the 4 days.

SAUVIC I am really looking forwards to getting running but it will be a social club at least to start with. For those that don't know NDSOC initially began as a social club called the Zed Club and developed in time. What SAUVIC will be looking for is a commitment from people so that it too can develop.

I'll try to be brief here.

But as INASNT said... and INARK pointed out, a lot of people are under 21... or around that sort of age.

Owning a skyline costs enough as it is.

Once people realise how much it actually costs you to get to the track. People get turned off. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Track days, quite simply are not cheap, depending on the type of track work being done etc.

But as a whole... in the club, it's simply not viable for us to seek CAMS affiliation at this stage.

and I do believe we were investigating either a full cams affiliation (total cost $880 for up to 100 members) the cost of which will be divided up evenly amongst the members (best case scenario $8.80 per member, worst case scenaro $22 per member). This topic was discussed at a good length etc and i thought we had come to a decision, whereby it would not occur at this stage.

One of of the points was we may well seek CAMS, but this will occur later on.

Maybe a year or two down the track once we get a group of members that are dedicated and are prepared to do the training etc.

ie, for a private track day we need to have ourselves trained up by CAMS as Rep's etc. And then, those rep's actually miss out of track work for that day as the are suprvising.

That was my understanding of how it all worked. But i would be skeptical of even 40 dedicated members at this stage to be honest.

By going with other CAMS clubs, this would alleviate the issue for us for the time being... until, as i said, we get a good member base that can afford and commit to track days etc.

It would come back and bite us on the ass if we tried at this stage. We wanna make SAU-Vic not only run smoothly, but cost effectively too.

There wont be a lot of funds to go around, and wasting members valuable money is not something i would want to happen at all.

Yeah, I was pointing out costs to show why we decided against CAMS. But those were the figures involved.

An affiliation with NDSOC should be good, its what the 300zx forum guys have done I believe.

Snowy, what's the turnout to their events like? Also what were the costs gonna be per member to join with NDSOC thru us?

Funky - the discussions were good actually. Yes there were going to be costs to be come affiliated with NDSOC but only for the individual. If we did become affiliated we would get given access to a page on the monthly NDSOC magazine and a few other little benifits. Basically I think the idea was we could then offer people a 2 level membership option - just social at cost $x or a CAMS one (so basically NDSOC membership + SAUVIC social membership) at possibly a reduced cost to what getting both individually would be. These were some idea's proposed to me by one of the committee members of NDSOC to be followed up after discussion with our committee to see if we were keen for that idea. Nothing was fully proposed because I didnt want to come back and get :flamed: for arranging things without anyones approval. I guess the most important thing though was the idea of an affiliation wasn't mine - they came and suggested it to me.

Turnout for the one event I went to was exeptional. I believe they currently have about 300 members but there were at least 60 at the pub. They had over 100 at their xmas party. There were 6 people I met from here at the pub (skylinegeoff and blind_elk being the only real active members) as well as Scotty from Driver Dynamic/Skidpan day who is a NDSOC committee member as well. All the people I met - including all the committee guys I spoke to - were great and friendly people and Im sure if its what we wanted to do between both parties some mutual agreement could be made.

First of all try CAMS http://cams.com.au/ and you can find all sorts of clubs

For Nissan http://www.ndsoc.com.au/site/

And for others, via RWDTurbo, my social car club, make sure you check the pics of us at Sandown http://www.rwdturbo.com/ and the links page for other clubs.

Just ask if you want to know what classes of racing are available

sorry, if the question I am going to post next is stupid...

but where the heck do I join these clubs?

cheers dudes...

SAU-Vic not yet.

that's just about ready :)

There will be an announcement at the GOR Cruise possibly.

Not a launch, but a bit of an update is in order

I'd be more than willing to join the SAU Vic club when its up and running and I wasn't trying to cut anybodies grass. I just thought it would be good just to get a few of the skyline guys cars out on the track and to some of the social meet ups. Thanks for being straight with what you are planning. It cleared a few things up for me.
