i should probably post in here instead of the monthly photo threads...

third day working on the new bike, showoff fail! :P

and some other random stuff from the day

looking to get a better NLE than the iMovie that I am using. what suggestions do people have for something cheap but more powerful than iMovie?

cheers. the fish eye effect is due to the wide angle of view these GoPro cameras have. you have to frame shots by gut feeling or take a photo and then chuck the card in a camera so you can check framing, but as that takes too long most times i just wing it and hope for the best, lol.

as for the editing software, i'll continue on with imovie for now. its capable of some cool things, at a cost of plenty of hours work, lol.

A few of you know that I shoot a lot of video with a GoProHD. One thing that works well is not to worry about putting the camera upside down as you just correct it after shooting. That saves time at the track.

Here is the GoPro Tutorial including what free software to use. The software is also good if you just want to trim/cut but preserve 60fps. Not that many software programs support 60fps as it isn't a true standard.

New "Tilt Shift" effect video from the Texi

I'd say this would work better with a higher viewing angle. Doesnt seem to really convey the 'miniature' effect with such low camera angles I think. i tried a few tilt shift vids a while back and found the higher the angle the better it looked. im no pro tho, so i could be way wrong.

You are so correct Jay. It's really hard to get a high angle at the level ground we have on the Texi - and a ladder won't fit in my GTR :D

I was pleased with the effect on the silver gtst and with the on-car (was my GTR) - those had a nice "gee am I looking a toys" feel. Mainly I was playing with the new VideoStudio "Stop motion" effect and seeing what I could do with the footage I had.

Thanks for the tip!

i wish there was an easier way to do them on a mac. i pretty much split the video down into frames and then used a photoshop action to tilt shift all the frames as a batch. wasnt pretty, haha.

keen to see more tho, i just dont have the patience for stuff like that these days.

Wow that's a painful exercise. On the PC I use a filter by NewBlueFX - check their software out because the plugin works with lots of different programs. Rack Focus is in their Video Essentials II package. I'm just about to pull the trigger on their stabiliser package since I do so much work freehand. That stabiliser looks very intelligent in the way it works.

The filter is only about $100 and also gives you several other options - blur edges, etc.

So this weekend I stumbled across this site when I was doing some research on DIY'n some gear. The site has a great mix of DIY and affordable gear review by normal Joe budget shooters like most of us.

I've spent literally days exporing the past articles and reviews. I've now also ordered some gear the I've been wanting but couldn't find cheaply enough or was worried about the quality.
