Never really thought about the Soarer come to think of it. From what I've read, which is very little, the non-VVTis don't make much power down low which would defeat the purpose for me. Is it similar to a Supra to drive?

The TT 1jz's (non vvti's) are poo below 3000rpm, but better than the v8s believe it or not.

I wish my soarer had some grunt down low, it needs 6-7psi dialed in before I can overtake a 1980 diesel hilux up a hill lol

But still, just gives me an excuse to kick it back 2 gears and hear the 1J sing at 6000rpm :)

xalmon - V8 limits the age you can get it.. ie you can only get upto mid 97 if V8..

the V8's are nice they're indestructable but electronically i personally wouldn't touch them - EMV system crashes and you're pretty well stuffed,

turbo - i'd only buy a vvti - i would never look at a twinturbo (personally) and these days i'm a soarer nerd

that said - at any rate the idea of importing a soarer is slim pickings - they're an old car and it's not easy to find one WORTH importing..

if you ARE going to import a soarer, then i would be insistent on vvti GTT Lpackage..

wait - alvin do you NEED a turbo??? cos there IS this guys' car - it's a VVT 2J.. it's the top of the range leather etc but he's asking way too much for it unfortunately :)

link to that car

^^^that car there is actually asking MORE than what i paid for MY car!!!

but yeah - two things you need to know about soarers:

prices for these things fluctuate like MENTAL. when importing, i bought my parents white 97 vvti turbo Lpack for 200K yen car cost.. but.. there was a black 1999 vvti turbo manual .. that went for 950K car cost..

and - if you're importing.. given that these cars are so common and ..let's face it - OLD... if you're importing - only insist on the very very BEST car

6 cylinder Petrol Multi-point injected 3.0L (3968cc)

lol

Wow 16k for a jzz31...I dont care that is a 98, that is more than double what I paid for my 94 TT lol, so I could have 2 of my cars (thats a quad turbo 12 cylinder :)) for the price of that.

Edit - Oh and mine is black on black, So fkn rare for an early model (no ghey grey or beige interior for me)

actually alvin - if you act quickly there is these two already in the country..

red with black interior manual turbo vvti

very low priced @ 11K ONO..

personally i would ask that he keep his wheels though :)

EDIT - yes you're WELCOME, Andrew! haha

oh and mine's black on black on blood read gurtain bain leather.

paint code 202 represent!!!

another edit - yours is not an early model man.. it's a mid-model..

with the 1.5 update tail lights and blek interior!

Fark thats cheap for a vvti manual!@!@!

Looks like a few things might need to be changed/fixed though

first off, its gonna be a long process, another 8months or so more before i even look at another car, so no hurries now, mohsen-ing around now haha.

but, i don't want a manual anymore, autos are where its at. oh well, so no v8s, and to find a vvti single turbo aye? will start looking and start planning, will buy local anyway.

such as?

Brake rotors look pretty bad from the pics, plus the typical soarer stuff, but none the less a good buy

Get a manual, I regret getting an auto, but that is mainly due to the TT's lack of low down grunt, havent driven a vvti auto, but id assume they are way better, so you might be ok

having one manual in the house is enough for me, used to the manual now, but i do miss the good old relaxed left foot.

the UZZ32a are awesome. shame about the colour of that one as otherwise it looks nice. their suspension is awesome even today, mine had every option under the sun. sonic cleaning mirrors, heated mirrors, heated seats, sunroof, reverse camera, TV etc, the whole lot. was nice silver with grey leather. the only thing it lacked was power. a nice UZZ32 with a good supercharger is the way to go. with around 220rwkw they would be a great daily car.

The Jaguar S-Type is a much better 4L V8 for a daily. Pretty good value now in the low teens!

How hard/much are the auto to manual conversions? There are some tiptronic VVTis pretty cheap already here. I'd imagine they'd be less thrashed/better condition too. I think I could live with the auto for a little while but really would want a manual soon enough. I'd imagine it'd cost thousands with all the clutch parts like booster.

I saw the red Soarer. Very tempting but I'm pretty sure I have to have a Supra.

If you think imports are expensive to maintain try looking after a V8 Jag,

Soarer manual conversions are a PITA, and generally cost as much as the purchase price of the car to do,

sounds like a supra auto -> 6spd conversion.

    • Bump on this to not make another post, had a ‘head drain’ leak on me and have the engine out as we speak. Planning on just putting a new freeze plug back in , plug the tapped holes and just be done with that headache.    Now I still want to relieve pressure to allow oil to pass down the blocks returns easier. I’ve seen catch cans with multiple vents help folks with this issue on this forum.  I’m wanting to make my own. I have some pictures here of my setup if anyone can help how I should plumb and design the catch can I would deeply appreciate it !   rb25 Oil upgrades: 1.0mm restrictor n1 pump/billet gears extended crank collar  extended sump with trap doors/w welded fitting
    • The Frenchy's kit is the way to go forward. A modern compressor that weighs about 1/2 as much, is at least twice as efficient, and will do a good job on R134a. And of course the kit has everything else you need to connect it up and have it work properly.
    • Hey all , I am in the process of having the AC system in my r32 GTST converted from r12 to r134a and I’m being told my compressor has gone bad and I will need a new one. I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for what is the best route to go aside from dropping $1500 on a new oem one? I did see that Frenchy’s performance garage offers a kit to mount a Toyota compressor, has anybody actually used this kit on their car? Or is there anywhere I could purchase just a clutch? Any help is appreciated.
    • Well, your RB20 ECU loom won't have wires for the boost solenoid, that boost sensor, and possibly one or two other things. There could be differences in seemingly random things like the charcoal canister purge solenoid, because the 25DET has to handle boost in the vacuum system and the 20DE does not. I don't know - I haven't looked. It is very likely that all the most important things are same-same, being the main sensors like AFM, CAS, etc, and the injectors and ignition. Not that you'll need the AFM for the Haltech anyway. I would suggest that you would seriously want to sit down with the pinouts for both ECUs and just go through them and highlight green what is the same, orange what is different/missing, and make a plan from there. It's not going to be difficult. It will either be the same or need to be fixed.
    • yeaaa that's why I haven't done any wiring to the stock ecu harness because I have the haltech, but then that leads me to the other question of "is the pnp harness really plug and play?" or would I have to still switch some pins/wires over because the pnp is for the rb25det neo harness, and not for the rb20de neo harness. was really hoping to find something to spoon feed me since so many people have done rb20neo + t conversions, but man this is rough.
