My c's short shift arrived this afternoon

I decided to install tonight, around 10 minutes ago

After i unscrewed the base plate i realised that my current shifter looks the same size as the c's one, i didnt want to rip the rubber up just in case it was

Im sorta stuck now, how do i know if ive already got a short shifter?

I put the c's short shifter next to my "stocky" and the length and position of the rounder bit at the bottom is exactly the same!

They are identical in length, so this must mean ive had a short shifter and i didnt even notice it?

Anyone got a pic of a stock shifter who can post it up would be much appreciated

INASNT - what do you mean by rattle... when I had mine out the other day I thought it could have been a short shifter.

I notice it seems to move up and down ever so slightly.... but only noticed that after I changed my clutch but i think it was there before that.

Also another reason I think i may have one is the rubber boot has been cut... saw someone do the same thing when installing their C's...

Anyone have a pic of std?

My rubber is cut too Dave...

To install the short shifter do i have to pull the rubber up thus tearing it?

Im not sure whether i should install or not, i could be replacing a short shifter with a short shifter :)

seriously clueless atm...

I remember rianto (rs73) telling me that his short shifter used to make a big noise while driving and really annoyed him, hence he pulled it out after 1 week.

c's short shifter looks exactly the same as stock one, just has slightly different angle where the ball is. Thats all it takes to make a very noticable change in distance between gears. U shouldn't have to tear the rubber to remove it, its a press fit with maybe a zip tie holding it in place.

All u gotta do to remove the gear stick is pop out the sir clip holding the ball down.

So you could cnc machine one yourself and save yourself $250?

My c's short shifter has been in for more than a year and it does not rattle at all. Did not have to tear the rubber to fit it....are you guys taking off the gear knob??

dAVE ....if you have a short shift and change back to stock..my bet is you you won't keep it that way very long.

The C's shifter has a good shine all the way down to the ball and looks to be billet... the stock shift is sort of nondescript. The important difference is under the ball

    • A question for tuning awd, is it possible to disable the AWD? The stagea is an EA/T AWD, Toshi had said on a GTR, he was able to disable it and make it 2wd. Just wanted to double check if this was possible
    • Whoa, that's a name I've not see for a long time! Sorry to hear about the engine / turbo damage.  Fwiw with any engine problems it often really a case of just seeing what happens when it's apart, ymmv - I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the damage isn't even from the turbo failure, or possibly from a combination.  The airflow between cylinders isn't dead even, injectors can go off over time as well, with the turbos overboosting if you didn't have upgraded fuel system there could have possibly been a bit of leaning out - stock triggering is often a bit unreliable by this age too.  Basically its an old engine and a few things could have been going on, and you won't know how much work is needed until the engine is apart.
    • I'm just shocked there's a euro driver on our roads who is thinking of other road users and not attempting to blind everyone. I wonder if Prank uses his indicator too...
    • Its hard to tell really. The Q50 owner's forum talks about it a lot and has quite a few people directly affected, but no idea what % of cars sold actually had the block replaced. Also, there seem to be 2 distinct issues which both get diagnosed by Infiniti as requiring a block replacement (no wonder they are going broke) 1. "Porous block" where coolant mixes with oil through thin or poorly cast parts of the block 2. Head coolant gallery plugs not sealing. If I was noticing engine coolant loss I'd start with cooling system pressure test (as always) and then I'd pull the cam covers and reseal the coolant gallery plugs on both side before worrying about a potentially porous block.  If neither of those did the trick it would be put in a second hand engine out of japan; I haven't checked pricing but I'm sure there are plenty around by now as they've been in production 10+ years
    • To clarify what I posted above, I thought you both had a situation where it cancelled sooner one way than the other.....if it is reasonably even where it cancels in either direction that is probably normal (consider gentle movements like lane changes, you don't want it to need half a turn of lock to turn the indicators off)
