Hey guys, I want to get a GTR to build up, I want it to be a sort of time attack car. I'm just wondering since I will be changing everything from the driveshaft, the engine, seats, doors, boot, bonnet, wheels etc why buy a gtr for like 40k if the chassis is the same in the GT. SO my question really is, is the chassis exactly the same? I mean EXACTLY as in you can put all the GTR parts in if you wanted to without any mods? (Not that I'll do that). Is it made from the same material? I'm asking this because I've found R34 GTs for like 10k, that's dirt cheap and thats not all, I would sell the GT's engine, seats, bonnet, exhaust etc and it would end up as like 7k only. Then I would build it up, I'm pretty sure it's cheaper than buying a GTR and then doing the build. So what do you guys think?

Well I suppose it depends if you want an AWD or just RWD.

If you are just after RWD there is nothing wrong with buying a GT/GTt.

Here is a good thread to read http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/R3...ld-t280439.html

The materials with the exception on the front hanging panels are the same.

Major points of difference are bolt-in strengthening in GTR (at B pillar and rear tower notably), and the GTR also has scallops in the front "chassis" rails for front driveshafts.

Firewall also recessed for booster for clutch master.... but not essential for a race car.

Basically, all of it can be got around.

if you don't care about 4wd and are happy with rwd then go the gt-t. will work out a lot cheaper. for the money you save buying the car you could have it modded to be much faster than the gtr. if you were thinking of making a 4wd gt-t with a heap of gtr stuff then just get the gtr to start with.

If it's only for track use, go for the GT/GT-T and spend heaps on Mods.

One of my friend did pretty much the same as you. He built up his GT-T with RB26 in it, etc. for track and spent lots on it. But now, I think he's selling it for $30k+. :D

I was thinking about 4WD but I guess 2WD isn't so bad, the thing is I could buy a GTR but this idea just hit me that maybe this is cheaper. If there's welding and stuff to get it close to the GTR then I guess I'll just get a GTR and sell all the unwanted parts like brakes, suspension, seats etc.

Where can I get a high KMs GTR for cheap? There's nothing under $38,000.

They pop-up every now and then. Patience is the key :)

I remember seeing one not too long ago it was $36,000.

There were some on j-spec that were reasonably priced.

The advantage with buying a GTR (if you are thinking AWD) straight out as opposed to a GT4 (non turbo, AWD, only in Auto).

- GTR has the RB26DETT already.

- 6 speed maual trans

- Wider body

- Stronger axels

- Brembo brakes

Basically what I'm trying to say is - in order to build an AWD monster it will cost you much more to build up a GT4 as opposed to a GTR.

The cost of labour during the conversions/custom parts will cost heaps. Even if you decide to sell the GT4 parts you will not get much money in return. There also seems to be more support and bolt on parts for a GTR too.

Fair enough that's a really good assessment. I am willing to pay for a 40k GT-R but since most of the parts like the brakes, suspension etc are getting replaced I'm being patient to find a cheap one. I'm not building the car by myself I've got 2 of my mates in on it so money isn't that tight but getting a cheap one would help save some money plus it'll make the missus happy, she says I'm having a mid life crisis lmao. If anyone knows one for like 34-36k even in high K's I'd much appreciate it.

    • Back in January, I noticed my car felt noticeably weak. I had the injectors cleaned, which seemed to solve the problem -- until now. Recently, the car suddenly lost power again while driving. Suspecting the injectors, I brought it to the mechanic. He recommended replacing them entirely, saying the current ones were getting unreliable and fiddly to work with. I could not find a direct replacement for my current injectors. The closest match I found were 440cc injectors. This led me to look into the possibility of upgrading -- and of course, that would mean remapping the ECU. From my research I found: The OEM Part numbers are 16600-72L20 and 16600-72L21 Both the RB20DE and RB20DET use the same 270cc injectors. There are much better options out there over the old OEM injectors. Nistune could be a viable tuning option. While the RB20DE isn’t explicitly listed on their site, the ECU is essentially the same as the GTS-T version - just with a different map. The ECU code on mine is listed as supported. One concern is finding a tuner who works with Nistune. Aftermarket ECU like Haltech and Link, but this would be the most expensive choice (and possibly overkill for a mostly stock RB20DE) I admit that I am very new to the tuning scene and would appreciate any insight or recommendations regarding this.   These are some SAU links where I got some of my information from for reference: https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/380324-rb20de-injectors/ https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/477396-factory-270cc-injectors/
    • The inspectors are not forensic by any means but if you forge your documents and/or badgings on vehicle parts and are found out, the consequences are just far bigger than if you just run illegal parts. And their job quite literally is to cross reference what parts you got installed and what your papers say you got. Something as silly as your suspension being 1mm too low will fail you. Nonetheless I asked if someone knew the damn pipe and I certainly did not ask for smartassery or underhanded comments, no idea why you need to be told this. Great way to waste both our time.
    • As useful as you explaining what forgery is... But then again, I wasn't aware your inspectors were also forensic experts and inspect nameplates on each component to confirm everything is original. They must inspect roughly 3 cars a year at that rate. You're right though, my comment doesn't help you in anyway, so I'll go talk to my wall now. Cheers.
    • Say that to the guy that is going to fail your inspection or tow your car for illegal exhaust modifications. If you have anything else useful to say, please go tell your wall.
