Actually it will be interesting to know the lighting setup for that shot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/britishmonarchy/5671667895/in/set-72157626613171058

Looking by the shadows and no light spill on the carpet im thinking just one huge ass light modifier on camera right.

Looks at the shadows under the chin.. To me it looks like one light source plus available light coming from behind to light up the side of the face a little.

Post up your thoughts :)

Definitely a bigass modifier camera right. It doesn't really extend all the way to the left, so i would say it's a little bit high but not really high up. Definitely an awesome photo, although i dont know why he wouldnt use one camera left either :| Definitely very soft light though!

The picture taken 30 years ago with Diana used two lights camera left and right which created bad shadows. As in cross lighting!!

I love this light and its damn awesome job!! Wish I can produce something like that on such a large group in a big area.

Make sure you get an IPS monitor. Do not buy a TN monitor as these do not reflect the true colour spectrum used in photography. Also, once you have bought a monitor, buy a calibration unit like a spyder 2 or spyder 3 (Depending how much of a budget you are on). These are essential in re-calibrating your monitor. It may not be off when you first buy it or for the first 6 months etc.. but it will eventually start to "Drift" and this is where the calibration tool will come in handy.

Dell normally have a lot of sales and with these sales you can get coupons off buckscoop etc.. for a 10%-15% saving if you buy online. Check out some of there monitors and wait for a sale!

John, this is the calibration tool I use, and it's super-easy. Just switch on your computer and monitor, let it work for at least 30mins, the plug the Spyder unit in via USB, run the software and let it do its thing...

Thinking of making a little logo for pics I take; going to be taking a lot of photos tonight at a work christmas party, and don't want the fundraising section to just steal my photos and use them willy-nilly. Any ideas where I should start; I'd assume a small logo would be a good place?

Making signatures is hard! I still dont like mine, no one can really tell I actually have my full name underneith it unless its printed out fullsize, which as far as I know none of my photos have been.

I think Matt and Sidd have nailed it though.

Watermarks are quite hard. I stick with something simple, but i think i'll be changing it again this year. 3 years in a row! Always had red in it so it stands out and i also shoot in daylight quite often at events so all white doesn't help.

Whatever you want, you won't find it first go (trust me). Make something that you like so far, and keep shooting and browsing forums and you will get ideas about what to do. Alternately, speak to a graphic designer if you really want some creative edge.

    • Ok, can confirm.  if you use it like a normal human being in the real world, it works fine.  it only starts crossing wires if I keep using the fob over and over again in a very short period. So if I just chill the f**k out, it works 😂😂
    • Im about to run a e30 mix of e85 and 98ron but i read that australian fuels specifically 98ron doesnt contain ethanol so on the calculator when it says pump ethanol percentage do i just put 0 or is this statement even true? And if it is true i assume i dont need to test any 98ron pumps.
    • So... the fob I had for my Skyline always had this issue where the "Unlock" button worked with no issues but the "Lock" button did nothing (and I always had to lock with the key) I thought I'd try resetting and pairing the key to the car today to see if that fixes the issue. I did the standard steps to program a key but realised my central locking was doing its own thing from time to time. 1st time: The driver-side doors would not lock or unlock when using the fob. No issues with the key. I figured it was the right time to change the battery in the fob so decided to go get one. When I went to the shop all doors locked and unlocked with the fob (while it had the old battery 🙃)   2nd time: When I locked the car, it would lock itself and immediately unlock. If I unlocked it, it would unlock and immediately lock.   3rd time:  After a bit of cursing and praying, that weird bug stopped. But then the rear passenger door started being a pain. It wouldn't really follow what the fob was asking it to do. Sometimes even using the key would not do what I wanted. So I'd lock the car with the key and all doors would lock, but the rear passenger lock didn't do anything at all. And then after a few moments, it would work again.   Is there a fuse that I should be looking at? or, is this one of those things where the door card needs to come off and some unit needs to be replaced? It just seems to happen from time to time and if I give her some space and come back later, there are no issues  🤦‍♂️ Also, should I try to program the fob again to the car just to see if that solves it?
    • One would assume a turbo is somewhere in its future down the line given they slap turbos on pretty much everything that arrives
    • I’m guess it’ll end up with a turbo
