Hi guys, i own an automatic r33 gtst s2.

My friend and i serviced the car the other day, new spark plugs, oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, and now im having issues with the car!!

Now when i go to drive it there is like a long pause before it will engage the gears.

I disconnected the battery and reset the ecu/remapped twice and it helped very slightly.

I go to accelerate now and the revs go up and then after too long a pause it engages the power sort of abruptly. Im not sure what i did wrong... dangerous when i need to get on a roundabout!!

Ok one thing i had noticed i put too much oil in... ive been trying to drain it out but it wont come out!! The sump will give me about a litre then just stop. So i tried again the other day, gave me like 500ml then just stopped completely. I think i still have about a litre too much in there... shouldnt the oil be draining like fairly easily??

any ideas?? thanks in advance

are you talking about the engine oil being too full? if so, just remove the oil cap, drop the sump bolt out and drain it all out and then refill it.

don't see how this could really affect the gearbox though. resetting the ecu shouldn't also have much affect either as it is more than likely something to do with the gearbox oil or the stall converter as to why it takes a while to go into gear.

This doesnt sound good..Id say either some sort of sludge build up is blocking the hole..which isnt good..or did you take your filler cap off when u tried to drain it, maybe its just a vacumn lock but ive never had that happen before..

How much oil did you drain out before you put more in, cause if its not not draining now it probably didnt drain properly before you put new oil in, how much did you put in...

thanx for replies guys,

i didnt remove the oil cap the second time i went to drain oil, prolly why not much came out. When i drained it when we did the service i think maybe 2 and a bit L came out, and i prolly put like almost 4 back in stupid me not realising till i checked the dipstick it was way over. Anyway i did drain like another litre and a half back out but still got a bit to go. Ill prolly put it on a slight incline and try to drain the whole lot then tip it back in like you said.

But yeah the time before this i put standard copper plugs in with 1.1 gap (i used to run .8) and every time i put my foot down the car shat itself, misfiring etc etc so i reset ecu, remapped the timing and it went ok, not great tho. Now with the latest service i went back to 0.8 gap (bcpr6es) and took it for a drive before reseting the ecu and thats when i was having all these issues with the accelerating. I put my foot down, rev meter goes up and nothign happens then suddenly BAM the gear drops in/power engages and it goes - after that initial pause of like 2-3 seconds??! So i reset the ecu / timing and remaped it to the new plugs, but it still does it. Not as bad as before i remapped it (you couldnt even drive it then - too dangerous) but its still doing it to a lesser degree. I go to accelerate and the gear takes its time to engage or the power takes its time to kick in one or the other im not sure which or why!! But now theres maybe a 1-2 second delay. Before all this it would engage almost instantly.

Im not sure where to start lol, should i buy new plugs and start over??

Guys, I'm having the same problem as well. My car seem hesitant as well. The 2-3 seconds lag is worrisome. So whats the solution to this?

I figured that there are few possibilities ranging from a blockage in the air filter; weak battery (Not too sure); blockage in the throttle body or worse, transmission problems.

Hey George

Do you have a 2-3 second lag between the time you press the accelerator and the time the gearbox kicks into gear like the OP or do you have a lag from the time you press the accelerator to the time the revs come up. ?

How does the car feel when your sitting still, in your driveway, is it responsive when you free rev it.

I don't see how a problem with your air filter or your throttle body is going to affect your transmission.

What happens after the lag period ? you put ya foot down -- 2-3 seconds lag -- then the car takes off ,, what happens next, does it run fine through the rev range and change gears perfectly after the initial lag ?

    • I used this https://osgiken.com.au/product/os-giken-os-250r-lsd-gear-oil-80w250-1-litre/   shut my nismo 1.5 pro up by heaps…. Not silent though. Gives the car character and personality. It ain’t a carolla. If you want silent, put a quaife in it.
    • It's about the same time for me from Bunnings, or the Fasteners. My big push away from takeaway food, and gluten in general keeps me away from the Bunnings Snags too! Weather up here, I've been out for two walks today in the beautiful sunshine. Had a few little drizzles, and some wind, that honestly, a tin of beans and I could compete on how harsh she blows Thankfully, being this bit inland, we're not getting anything much really. Will probably pick up a bit more when/if Cyclone Alfie decides to come ashore. A few areas in the GC though, and south into NSW are really getting smashed though! Right now, I'm just annoyed Alfie hasn't hit, as I'm not allowed to crack into the BBQ foods like the bacon and eggs until the Cyclone hits "In case we lose power"...
    • I love fastener joints, the price difference between them and joints like Bunnings or Super Cheap is amazing, and they either have exactly what you want, or they can get it to quick They have even given me some for free when I only needed a couple of specific size In saying this, I have paid premium for fasteners from Bunnings if they have the sizes I need, but only for convenience really, as my local is only 10 minutes away, the Sushi joint near them is also a consideration  How's the weather Matt? Stay safe mate
    • Wideband is worth setting up if only for tuning purposes. I would not mess with the ignition system unless there's a misfire. HKS crank trigger is popular out here for the relatively easily sourced Denso crank sensor, not a bad idea to install as well regardless of power level on a standalone. Boost leak test is worth thinking about. Oil pressure sensor tied to a fuel cut isn't a bad idea either. Getting the tune figured out is a good idea. Without putting eyes on it and getting under it there's no way for us to tell you exactly what it needs but most likely you're down to the last 10% that will make a big, big difference in how happy you are with the car.
    • Doing a refresh of my 33 and can see a few websites stating they sell the entire main carpet for our cars, but they all have generic photos which is fine, i understand they are custom made to order.  Just seeing if anyone has got it done or had any experience with this, as i would only want to do it if the fit and finish was as good as oem https://carmatsdirect.com.au/products/moulded-carpet-or-vinyl-for-nissan-skyline-r33-1993-1998-coupe https://knoxautocarpets.com.au/moulded-carpets/nissan/skyline/skyline-r-33-1993-1998/
