I was booked for turning right when the only sign present was a "keep left" on an island in the middle of a two way entry and exit road . The cop said i could only turn left and booked me for the following - " disobey a left turn sign " which wasn't there . I believe i did keep left, if i didn't i would be in the opposite lane (where people drive in) . If I contest it and lose , how much would it cost me?

cheers

One million dollars

But seriously, I dunno. Up to the judge if you just pay the fine or they might give you a bigger fine if they feel your just wasting their time. I think court costs for me the last time I was there was $160ish + the fine. The if you have someone representing you then it costs more etc.

easier to pay the fine. wont go into details but if it goes to court then you are going to need a lawyer ($1k) and time off. spent the best part of $2k last time I did it.

We can speculate but your best option is to go and see a lawyer who is well versed in traffic law, and lay the whole thing out to them. You'll probably even get the first consultation for cheap/free.

Just make sure you have all the relevant info handy (take photos asap, in case the sign is due to be replaced) and be honest about what happened. If they think you have a case (and you believe them *queue lawyer jokes*) then go from there. Keep in mind it'll take time off work most likely and some coin to go further.

Hubby challenged a ticket and won but it cost 3-5 grand .....

Depends how dire the cercumstances are for you. And you would want to be real sure you had a case which a expert could tell you (at a cost) otherwise they could make you pay their costs.
