I currenctly have GT-SS on my RB26 with a os giken flywheel. Response is unbelivable. Lag doesn't exist for me.

I'm interesting in going rb30 because I want more torque. However, I don't want to go higher than 550whp because my tranny won't take it, clutch will wears too easily etc.

With that said, I went throught the 6 pages of rb30 dyno and I think I saw like 3 Twin turbo built.

Have you heard of any rb30 with twin -5, GT-SS, HKS 3510 ? what was the income?

Much appreciated!

Check the Dyno threads for RB26 for an idea what the turbos will make.

GT-SS's will not make 550WHP on 98 Fuel, also these would be too small on a 3 litre bottom end.

-5's May* make this power and would be my choice for a streetable solution on a 3 litre bottom end.

Don't know enough about the 3510(s*) to comment.

* = depends on setup and head etc.

Politely Ask N1GTR about his setup (3L bottom end with GT-RS x 2 but now going to -5's)

My brother is in the process of building a RB30DETT. He will be using a set of rebuilt IHI turbo's from a twin turbo liberty or something. They were reportedly pulled from an RB30DETT making somewhere around 300rwkw with supporting mods. Really great, responsive turbo's if you can get your hands on 'em.

There is a thread on the net somewhere with a couple of backyard mechanics strapping a pair of them onto a stock 1jz with no form of boost control. They free boosted for around 6 months till they blew!

The Rb30 will make mountains of torque with any turbo setup. I blew 12 gearbox's then put Redline gear oil in....haven't broken one since....plenty of power now to. see my signature block.

I fell GT-SS's will run out of puff very quickly on a 3ltr. -5's would be the smallest I would go....The starter motor would still bring them on boost...

12!!

My god!

Yeah 3L is nice. GTSS on 3L with really high CR and E85 would be ultimate on twisty hillclimbs.

I get the feeling if you are using E85 + high CR on a 3 Litre then you might even be able to go bigger then GT-SS without sacrificing any response, thoughts ?

You will have to loose response with -5s, bigger turbos will spool later. The question is; how much difference is it, and is it worth paying for a 3lt bottom end if you're only going to run SS's. Since you already have the SSs you could try it out - it would be interesting to see how it went. Next step up is -5s, and as you've said you'll really be wanting a stronger gearset if you go to high 300kws.

Well the OP wants zero lag, that has to be the way to get it. That setup would be great for tight uphill courses, I wouldn't go that extreme though, I'd go -5's. It would be nice to try but like anything it's not exactly a cheap exercise! Plus the step back in kw would shit me

Ever driven a stock supra TT? There's so much response it's crazy but lacks the outright power, the OP is just trying to find the balance between power/torque/response like most of us here.

i would guess you get a similar result with that GT-SS + RB30 setup to Al's GT30 + RB30, just has power everywhere.

If it does, then it's a great combo.

Al's car is seriously fun to drive, last I drove it it had exactly as you say power everywhere and not a lot of grip on the pan at deca. He may aswel forget using first gear, it's that good.

Nah never driven a supra.

Agree on the -5's perfect turbo for the job.

Still trying to decide what I will do. maybe I should look for a stroker 2.8 instead.

Like I said, I'm used to my 400whp anti-lag GT-SS, I don't want to loose that. a couple friends and I went in the mountain and I must say, I had the quickest car-more fun to drive this day because of the gtss turbos.

Getting to 500whp would be sweet. I don't want to start swapping tranny every 2 months LOLLLL think my OS ts2b will be fine however.

surely after 2 you would think shit.. i might need something better than a standard box???

i didnt even wana find the limit of 1 so the plan was made early to put a better box in.

cost of 12 boxes somewhere near $9000+??? say at $800 per second hand box

OS giken gearset $6000 fully assembled

    • I know this one’s the BB one. My tuner did make mention about the actuator. I am curious about the VCT as well
    • Might also needs a stronger actuator with the right preloading. With older 2019 built bush G3 units, BB upgrade or 21U housing down size makes a pretty decent gain in response as well.
    • Hey lads  so im finally putting together my rb30 forged bottom end and ran into an issue. I measured my main bearing clearance with arp main studs torqued to 60 ft-lbs using ACL H series STD size bearings and standard, un-ground crank shaft journals and got an oil clearance reading of about 1.3 thou measuring straight up and down and about 2.8 thou measuring at a 45 degree angle (just above and below the parting line). My machine shop said they measured the main tunnel and it was all within spec (they didnt say the actual measurement) and to go with a standard size bearing, which i have done and the clearance is too tight, I'm guessing because of the extra clamping force from the arp studs distorting the main tunnel. I was wanting to run about 2.5 thou main bearing clearance.  My questions are: 1. could i just use the HX extra 1 thou clearance ACL bearings? that would fix my straight up and down clearance making it about 2.3 thou, but then would the side to side clearance be too big at around 3.8 thou? 2. what actually is the recommended main bearing clearance for measuring near the parting line / side to side. i know its supposed to be bigger as the bearing has some eccentricity built into it but how much more clearance should there be compared to the straight up and down measurement? at the moment there is about 1.5thou difference, is that acceptable or should it be less? 3. If i took the engine block + girdle back to the machine shop and got them to line bore the main tunnel (like i told them to do the first time, but they said it didnt need it) what bearing size would i buy? the STD size bearing shells already slide in fairly easily with no real resistance, some even falling out if i tip the girdle up-side-down. If im taking material out of the main tunnel would i need a bearing with extra material on the back side to make up for it? this is probably confusing af to read so if something doesn't make sense let me know and ill try explaining in a different way. My machine shop doesn't come back from christmas break until mid January, hence why i'm asking these questions here. TIA for any help or info
    • I bought the model back in Japan in Feb. I realised I could never build it, looked around for people who could build it, turns out there's some very skilled people out there that will make copies of 1:1 cars or near enough. I'm not really a photo guy... but people were dragging me in a group chat for the choice of bumper as someone else saw the car before it was finished as they are also a customer of that shop. I took the photo in the above post because I was pretty confident that the lip would work wonders for it. Here's some more in-progress and almost-done pics. It gives a good enough idea as to what the rear looks like!   I have also booked in a track day at the end of January. Lets all hope that is nothing but pure fun and games. If it's not pure fun and games, well, I've already got half an engine spare in the cupboard
    • Well, do ya, punk? Seriously though, let's fu<king go! The colour and kit looks amazing on the car. Do you have any shots from the rear? I don't quite follow how the model came around. You bought the white kit and he modified it to match your car? Looks nuts either way!
