Firstly

So to any idiots in Glen Alpine who let there animals run free, let me tell you one thing f**k YOU!

my r33 is now badly damaged because even tho I know I should of hit the animal, i swerved to miss it. Which left me sliding across an uplifted island over a 2x1 metal watercatchment drain, leaving my front right tyre rubbing on the guard...! Some of the components (can't think of the name's right now) bent.

Instead of using my comprehensive insurance, do you guys think I should just try and fix it, once a mechanic and an nrma Roadside assitance guy told me just to use the insurance and pay the excess of $1300

thankyou,

Justin

Sorry for this lame thread..

get a quote for the work from a repair shop and se how much of the work you can do yourself, if its cheaper than the insurance then do it yourself if not get insurance to fix it

id also recomend going to the are to se if the animal is still there and ask around the neighbourhood whos animal it is and if you find them and se if they are willing to pay up, atleased this might make them think 2ce about leaving teh animals to roam free on the street

PS sorry to hear, i had a near miss the other day when a possum decided to run out in the street. lucky for me i missed him and the gutter

try calling your insurer to ask them if in this scenario they will cover cost free if you find out who is the owner of the animal ie name and address or even licence because im prety sure the insurance company can in some instances act on your behalf and even sue for damages caused, but dont hold your breath on it

That rod probably isn't the only thing that is bent... check your lower control arm, castor rod and castor rod bracket.

Assuming that there is no paint work required and you can swing a spanner, I'd say you'd easily be able to repair that for under $1300 :D

By the looks of that the LCA is bent, UCA is bent tie rod arm, most likely dont something to ATLEAST a sway bar link (If not the sway bar).

You'll probably find the chassis could be bent slightly too, or at least the mounting points.

I'd be having EVERYTHING stripped off the front, assessed, and put through insurance.

ok im a car noob... what do those abreviations mean... ??? yes your with stupid

To put it simply, it looks like 90% of the things bolting the wheel, to the car body, are bent.

And phatlavish expanded the abbreviations... LOL Sorry bout that.

I'd would be paying very close attention to all the mounting point for the upper wishbones and the caster rod, its only bolted through pressed metal than you can bend with your fingers, see if the caster rod mount has torn, if so it will need plate welded in there and re-drilled etc.

got an update: my mechanics are gonna charge me $300 for all the labor, now how hard is it to get these parts:

*offside lower control arm

*offside radious rod

* offside rack end

When I crashed my R33 a few years back I got most of my parts from SSS Automotive in Girraween. Off the top of my head I believe that the lower control arm cost me around $100 and the radius rod cost around $50.I bought a brand new rack end from Nissan Parramatta for around $90. All parts I got on the same day.

Protip: S14s and R33s use identical radius rods and lower control arms :)
