I am sure its going to be good regardless, look forward to hearing the results. In regards to ridiculously punchy turbos that make a bit of power still, will be tuning an S14/SR20 running a PE1420 on E85 soon... that should be a bit different too.

nup he made the right choice. I have a fair bit of info (that I can't share just yet) on 6255 v 6258 vs 6758 but I can tell you the 6258 is the gun set-up in that range for what he wants to do with his SR20. All three have their optimum applications I'm sure but for that I think he's made the right choice.

I am thinking about trying a pair of them on my 2.7 GTR currently running twin HKS 2530s... :)

Know anything about the B frame items ? :P

Nice - that should be pretty awesome! 6258 though? I'd have been pretty tempted to get a 6758 after spending that much, HKS GTRS are amazing on SR20s and the 6758 is still smaller so isn't exactly going to be laggy.

PS: I saw your avatar etc previously and thought nothing of it as I frequent the HevyDevy forum and you get used to that, but this is SAU - AWESOME :D I have Deconstruction and Ghost preordered haha

I did a bit of research on 6255, 6258, and 6758, and spent a bit of time chatting with a mate who had done even more research.

I basically came to the conclusion that the 6255 was a little on the small side,

the 6758 was getting a little on the large side for a standard bottom end and box (I'm overly cautious),

and the 6258 is basically the perfect fit for what I want.

Ha! Excellent! Someone else with awesome taste in music. On SAU no less... That's a bit unusual.

Awesome! That's what I like to hear. :D

When i finally get around to running in my engine and then changing turbos i'm think of going for a TS 6758 on my forged CA18, will be running E85, HKS 264x9.0 cams and there's been a little bit of port work done as well. I was considering going for a TS 7064 but since the car will be used for circuit work mainly I though it would be better to keep the power down slightly in return for more response.

  • 3 weeks later...

So, I got a call from FedEx about 12 hours ago.

My turbo has arrived and has cleared customs. :D

Heaps earlier than I expected, should be at my door some time Thursday.

Does anyone else think it is strange how BW does not have a lot of the import market here is Australia? Even the first generation of Airworks turbos like the S300SX, etc were not that popular despite being so well priced. For around $1k you can get a S200SX, S300SX or S400SX... it is not as if people have gone to the limits with these turbos either and are looking for better things (i.e. the EFR range).

That would be because its follow the leader here in Aus.

a couple of cars get ok results on GT30s then 1000 cars have them....or because HKS turbos are done by garrett and everyone wants those.

This arrived at my door today;

Needless to say, I was pretty excited.

6258, high and low pressure actuators, and exhaust v-band. Boost controller fouls on my manifold. :(

Very cool things, workmanship is very high, as is the quality, can't fault it at all. Gate port is f**king huge for such a small turbo, and the wheels are works of art, could stare at those all day. Spins forever when you wind it up by hand. And the locking tabs for the turbine housing are a brilliant idea.

Can't wait to get it all fitted.

awesome pics mate. :) thanks for sharing. I've been longing to see some good pics of one apart for a while. they are a cool design for a small IWG turbo.

anyone received and tried a 9180 yet? we have one coming soon and very anxious to see how it goes.

Good looking bit of gear

My only concern is the gate flap that protrudes directly into the main exhaust stream. I'm assuming that it won't open all the way out like in the pics though so should be ok

I doubt it will swing all the way into the main stream. Probably end up moving less than half that distance. It's one of those 'I'll check it out whenever I get around to it' sort of deals though.

Cool cool. Can you chuck some pics up of the Max opening with the actuator attached when you get around to it?

looks like the way its designed, the flap opens and merges the gas around the edge of the exhaust housing lip so the gas is designed to merge in nicely rather than disrupt the flow. well thought out bit of gear.

Very nice, and keen to see results :) I see someone in the states has done ~270wkw with one on an SR20 already, though the spool sounds like its more comparable with a GT2871R - at least on the dyno.

I am interested to know why the move to ball bearings on these turbos... guys such as Full-Race have flown the flag with the Airwerks range saying the ball bearing is a myth in terms of mech. losses (friction), etc. And now the EFR has been released with ball bearing and it is no surprise that it is more expensive.

So why the change? Market driven and hype or are there actual performance benefits. You would expect it to spool quicker from the wheel design and material selection more so than the bearing type. At least this is what BW tried to sell to everyone before.

    • I'd need to check my notes at work Duncan, but I'm pretty sure most of that is purely OBD2 on the display. How quickly is it all able to update? Do you have any internet capability in your workshop with a laptop?
    • Yeah just gonna be near stock runner only want 180kw to 210kw can’t find anything been looking ages looked in to rb25 but money is tight as the moment need the car back on the road
    • From there it is trickier. Ecutek seems to be one of those closed ecosystems where everyone password protects their tunes which means I either choose a tuner and can't change from them and can't make any changes myself for any reason, or I have to buy the tuning software (about $4k) and then get someone to tune from scratch (which is not simple with all the multi dimensional tables these days). Once you buy about 300 "flash points" per ECU you can get it tuned and add their "RaceROM" function which hacks extra functionality like launch control onto the ECU, and also makes extra data available for logging over CAN Not sure what I'll do there yet; I'm tempted to use one of the overseas shops that does billions of remote tunes of the platform instead of starting from scratch locally, a lot can be done online these days.
    • Can I log IAT eh? Well, can now So next thing was looking at data logging. Not straight forward because none of the motorsport displays have cracked the nissan/inifinti CAN and ECU based displays don't do g logging, lap timing, predictive laps etc.  So, I bought an Ecutek dongle from Tunehouse (Oz distributor). Even without a tune onboard that allows display and logging of about 50 parameters via Android (and presumably iOS) app. Approx 600 for the bluetooth + Usb version That gives me (pretty ugly but) functional dash display on Android And logging of these parameters I'll play around a bit over the break, but at least now I can make sure I have oil pressure when I get to some track testing.
