Is there any likelyhood the EFR9180 will be replaced and tried out or has that been abandoned now that the old faithful Garrett based unit saved the day?

bloody oath mate. as soon as possible there will be a EFR9180 back on the Advan/Hi-Octane/RGM R34. Mark it about to try some other stuff (not turbo related) but as soon as we get another 9180 it's going back on for more testing. and we were all so happy with it's initial performance we are converting the RGM R32 to a full race manifold, twin turbosmart gates and a 9180 too.

the T04Z was ok but it was only ever 'plan C' and a last minute back-up option. it was used simply because Mark had it available (was on the R33), and would fit the existing full race manifold set-up most easily of the available options (2 days before the event we didn't have many other choices!).

It's full steam ahead with Full Race and Borg Warner EFR gear on both the RGM GTRs.

Awesome, looking forward to hearing how they both go - whenever the new units become available!

Mr Sub - ahh blargh, the nature of my work means that if I post during the day sometimes I engage autism mode. My bad :whistling:

Will the R32 still be a 2.6?

yes it will. :) there has been some serious heated debate over this one and to be honest (just don't tell anyone I said so) I can agree the logical/smart choice is to go 3L so it's the same as the R34 but the 2.6 option has some merit too and it's the way it's going.

as far as ancillaries etc go both cars will be almost identical though.

Tiny bit more progress.

Looking rather comfortable;

Had to clearance the mounting plate for the BCSV (which I won't be using...) slightly because it comes too close to the manifold.

And the banjo fitting solution for my water lines... Not so good.

IMG_4387.jpg

Hard to see, but the outer edge and bolt for the recirc valve cover still hit the banjo bolt. Gonna head down to Pirtek and Enzed whenever I've got time and see if they can do anything for me. If I can't find a solution, it is safe to run these as oil cooled only... But I'd rather keep water cooling.

Only need to clock it a tiny bit more...

Plan was to have the outlet pointing straight down to avoid the water fitting problem and allow me to run the Pierburg, but there's the lines for the A/C and an engine mount in the way. It'll also require a pretty hard bend.

Probably largely irrelevant on a forum dominated by RB's, but you get that.

So what would one of the 6258 in single form be like on a 2L?

Ive read in a couple of places that an RB20 has similar character to an SR20, you may want to watch this thread to find out.

Correct me if Im wrong but it had been said in this thread that the 6258 is the turbo to have on an SR.

Based on what ive seen on a couple of other forums (cobalt and astra) I would probably be willing to go the 6758, there are also videos of a civic on youtube which absolutely hauls with one. The problem with all of those are that they are modern hicomp motors.. Kind of like the talk we had about VQ heads vs RB and the ridiculous flow differences.

Im still up in the air about new tech/old tech stuff... There is a good chance your better off leaving a TD on your ride :P But that civic on youtube is insane.. Instant gutfull of torque and delivery that doesnt just fry the tyres, MMMMMMM

Links? :)

No small pot-6 RB20 I've seen has turned a turbo as good as a big pot-4 SR20.

Would be interesting to see either way.

Not for the RB20, its'sorted and not touching it. But looking for a turbo for the 2L 4 in my Cossie as it rocks old school lag and as its a daily would be happy to lose some hp fof drivability. Runs a twin scroll manifold std, though not sure but think its T3.

Would having a small, say, 1/2 to one inch spacer made between the manifold and turbo housing help your clearance issue?

The EFR6258 and EFR6758 are T25 flange, or would you make up a manifold for it?

lithium, one benefit of the stainless steel housing is that it's a real pleasure to weld to.. if you wanted to run a t25 efr on a t3 manifold, properly weld a t3 flange on and port to suit

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
