I never had issues with boost control on my T4 IWG 7163. Boost was always easy to control, but the tuner and I went for a creeping boost curve to give a nice powerband. This is a 9.5:1 compression sr20vet (still 2L) by the way. Intake cam was advanced 4 cam degrees and the exhaust retarded 1 or 2. I will go again for a retune with +2 intake and - 1 exhaust which should bump power up a bit. I'll also fab up a 3.5" down/front pipe. This dyno reads pretty low compared to most in Sydney. Slight dip in the power curve was because of a slight misfire. It made a few extra KW in a later pull (346kw) but i'm pretty happy with how it drives considering it makes this much power. The tuner was just so impressed and said this was way ahead of a normal sr22det with a gt3076r

nicknack, that is an excellent result for a 2.0L SR, Im sure it is more impressive from the driver's seat than an internet dyno chart can convey. Making approx 1 bar boost by ~3700rpm on a mainline dyno is a good start. Mainline dynos are great, but the lowest reading of any that ive tried. It will be interesting to see how things go once you dial in the cams. I doubt you will gain much with the oversize downpipe, but its worth a shot. Make certain there is no intake restriction, use an oversize high flowing air filter, etc. I agree with your tuner the gt3076 can not do what this turbo can

Geoff you mean 2 boost controllers and 2 waste gates... right? Not 1 and 2?

Each turbo has its own solenoid is what I was told when I bought the twins, not 1 solenoid that splits to 2 turbos...

all EFR turbos ship with a solenoid on the compressor housing. for the twin kit, just remove one, and save it as a spare. use a single boost controller, with a Tee. like this photo:

nissan-rb26dett-efr-twin-turbo-kit-1-con

My turbo manifold shipped today. I should have results of a pretty stout stroker 2.75L with ported head, +.5mm valves, springs, cams, hypertune V2, etc shortly on a 6boost manifold and 8374 EFR with .92 IWG setup. I'd say I should have dyno results within 2 months max. I have had the "two steps forward, one back" constantly on my project so it's taken me forever waiting on new parts and fabbing stuff.

cool to see another RB enthusiast in the states on here. if you need any help let me know, we have a ton of RB and EFR parts and setups at full-race

Here's the build thread. You may not recall helping me previously (emails and such). I really tried to use your manifold, but the PS pump and AC compressor change required eliminated it for me. FYI the RAW brokerage one didn't fit either. 6boost is the one on the way now and Kyle assures me it will fit.

Hopefully one day we will cross paths! I'm a big fan of your work.

Geoff, I recall seeing this build data some time ago and seeing over 800whp but which waste gate cans were used and how stable was the boost? Any creep or spikes?

oh got it! i dont blame you for not wanting to switch, but the R32 AC lines are bulky space hogs compared to R33 / R34. good luck and let me know how it all fits in the end

this car had the bw stiff canisters, no creep or spiking. More boost beyond this point would call for the turbosmart actuators with 3x spring stack

So heres my custom manifold and 3.5" dump pipe i made for my Evo 9 1.05 EWG 7670 hopefully I'll have some results in a few weeks :) turbo is tilted as its hard as hell to fit these EFR's are a bitch to fit into an evo engine bay lol :(

Spent the day reading through the whole thread again. What a bloody roller coaster. It's been a little dead in here so time for a bump.

6 boost twin scroll manifold. 38 mm Tial gates will be used. Still waiting on those guys (talk about lead time)

After speaking to Geoff on and off for the past 18 months about this, the 8374 seemed the way to go. There have been two results, Sub boys being one where he says the 8374 IWG on the 3.0 is spinning at 130k RPM to achieve 1.5 bar (IIRC). The other one is Matty from WA. To achieve 1.6 ish bar was only turning 95K RPM. Out of curiosity more than anything I've bought the speed sensor kit with a display to monitor it.

2.8 L (87 mm slugs)

9.0:1 comp

260 at 10.85 mm cams

NIsmo cooler

4 inch exhaust with the gates plumbed back

E85

As much of a fan of the twin / stock looking appearance, the ease of working on a single would make everything a lot easier.

V Nice! You will be most impressed...

FWIW - Dean Lillie (of WTAC fame) drove my car for half a lap (intercooler hose clamp broke off) on the weekend just gone at WTAC. For those of you that don't know my car makes just on 500kw at the treads using Twin 6258s.

Dean's normal ride, the Powertune R34, makes 620kw at the treads on low boost using some new Garrett turbo of unknown description (by me anyway), not sure what it makes on high boost, safe to assume more!

Dean, upon hopping out of my car, commented that my car pulls way harder all through the rev range than the Powertune R34......

Nothing against the Powertune R34, it's very accomplished and a bloody fast car, my point was more about how good these EFR's are!!

Hi John, happy to know the twin RB26 setup is still performing well and these turbos have proven their worth to you. How did the WTAC event go, did you get any clean laps in?

hey piggaz - happy to know you will use the speed sensor, it is one hugely valuable tool that is often overlooked.

edit: Did you purchase the 38mm tial gates from us? we typically have them in stock, zero lead time (unless it was a special order item or unusual color request)

Edited by Full-Race Geoff

Geoff, no I didn't. It's almost been 4 months. I ordered them in black. Apparently Tial have no stock. I've been told early November. We will see.

Any idea what your 8374 was turning to on your 2.6 L? The max speed of the 8374 is 127,000 RPM. Where would you like to see it set to without ringing it's neck?

my 8374 max speed was 119k rpm on RB26 and 115k rpm on Evo. However i was abusing my evo one day, put a hole in coupler and saw 154k rpm (yikes!). It still made 30psi boost but felt slow, when i saw 154k on the gauge. I could not have known there was so big a boost leak problem without the speed sensor

piggaz: 4 months on wastegates does not sound right, we get black MVS deliveries weekly. either way if we can help i am happy to

Can I ask where you got the manifold and price ?

Has it a RB25/26 universal flange and T4 ? Can't tell by those pics

Cheers

Hi Geoff,

Yes after just circulating on Friday with low boost (bloody too hot to flog the old girl) we ran greens Saturday morning and cranked up the boost.

I did a 1:35 on my first and only lap. I was happy with that even though I know there's more time to be shaved. I busted an intercooler hose clamp in the second session and didn't bother going out for the last session. Car is performing well, looking forward to doing more events next year.

Through 6 boost direct. $1350 from memory. I believe it's a rb25/26 flange. Makes sense to do it that way.

Glad to hear you did a good lap, I was watching to see how you'd do this year and you shaved some time from last year. You improve every time! I have the same turbos and different transmission so it's good to see those do well. Awesome that it pulls well. Interesting that the powertune driver would notice a difference with a weaker top end.
