A mate on here went from -5's to a 8374 internal 0.92 rear. 5-700 rpm earlier it comes on and makes more power. Given that Geoff reckons the 1.05 will be 150-200 rpm behind the 0.92, you're still infront.

was this with a stock Y pipe or mod/aftermarket?

negligible, the EFR kits we offer are all designed to use the integrated recirc BOV. if there is a tial BOV listed it may be a mistake on the site

Well.. i guess its my little ricer-side, but I really enjoy my blitz atmo BOV. so if the difference is negligible, I'm happy about it and might go on and order a new BOV or keep my Blitz since i already like the sound.

Hi Guys,

Looking for a turbo myself for my GT-R am building a 2.8 stroker with a modified head to suit. I read all 95 pages in order to find out what the EFR range is all about and get some results specifically around the 9180 but to be honest didn't find much if you could help by answering a few of my questions I'd apprecaite it. I am looking to make around 600awkw (800awhp) the car will be running on E85 and my preference is to not run more than 30-34psi to achieve this power. Application is street/drag.

1. Is this power achievable on any of the EFR range and if the 9180 will do it would this be its absolute maximum?

2. On a built motor I know there are a lot of factors but when would you expect full boost with a 9180, would we be saying 6000rpm, 5500rpm or before 5000rpm?

3. Are there still supply issues with the 9180 or if I order one I can get one in a few weeks maximum?

4. I understand the 9180 is a 67mm wheel so like the 6766, but what would you say it would be more similar to GTX42 or GTX4088 / Precision 6766 or the larger frame 7175 (or would it do the same power as a GTX42 but on the smaller frame)

5. Would love any real examples that are on a GT-R ie what power at what boost using what fuel and when full boost is achieved.

6. Is it all just hype to have 95 pages with less than 10 solid results, actually I could barely even find 1 or 2 GTR's with 9180 results or has it just been supply issues, or reliability? Are these turbos that much better or are they essentially the same as what garrett and precision offer maybe 5% better if that?

I'd be looking to run a 9180 with exteral wastegate, twin scroll with the 1.05 rear housing, also anyone got a picture of a 9180 that isnt internally wastgated, or do they all look ugly with all the stuff taking away from the presence of the front housing?

I'll put my 2c - these are opinions, not direct experience but I've been tracking these things for ages so have a couple of ideas... I'd like to think :)

1 - I'd say in the territory of 600awkw should be achievable, I've not seen many of these run all in so that is more theoretical than anything. I'd say >550awkw would definitely be doable. Word of caution, the 9180s sound like they don't like being oversped - think of the Gamma-Ti turbine wheel like an uber material version of the old Nissan ceramic turbine wheels Nissan used in the earlier Skylines etc.... people HAVE pushed them when leaning on these HARD so I'd personally not push one the way some people push the Precision/Garrett/FP alternatives.

2 - If I were a betting man I'd be saying to set expectations for near 5000rpm, I'd like to think under but that area.

3 - You'd have to talk to Full-Race or another dealer, I don't get the impression that there are any issues from anywhere

4 - I've seen nothing anywhere to consider the 9180 superior in flow to any of the other "typical" MFS 67mm turbos doing the rounds at the moment, I'd consider them to be flow wise comparable (give or take) to the GTX4088R/PT6766/FP3794 but more responsive.

5/6 - Sorry can't answer that, not sure. I'd guess that the amount of time with supply issues and reliability issues in the earlier days didn't do any favours for popularity at the start and now the Precision/FP etc turbos are so proven and so much cheaper, easier and prettier to get and use it became too little too late and most people don't really see the point when these aren't completely head and shoulders above everything else. I kindof see them as something that if you can justify the cost (either you have lots of money or just really need the absolute best response versus power level) then go for it, but it's not something you're silly to not buy if you're not ultra serious or rich. The alternatives are more than sufficient for most I reckon - which I think is a common conclusion and obviously one you are entertaining.

I would go with a GTX4294 if I had my choice again.

I think my S366 with 1.10 A/R should make the same power you are after (I hope). These have the same size wheels as the 9180 but doesn't have the fancy stuff... but, a $800.00 price tag instead of triple that.

Guessing thats not the FMW S366 at that price, Bigmikespec? What spec motor is it going on? Keen to hear results from that :)

I thought the FMW was a S362 only?

RB26 forged engine, lots of head work, dry sump, trick intake manifold if I ever finish it, lol.

They released a s364.5 fmw earlier this year but it seemed to get marketed more towards the bi power turbo diesel trucks in us more so than cars. Think there is also a s200 fmw as well

So I'm still looking at the external BOV -thing. On page 94, Geoff said the difference shouldn't be noticeable, but I was looking for second opinion on different forums....and found out that a few guys would keep the OEM internal BOV from the EFR, but would keep their external BOV also.

I was thinking about buying a GREDDY TYPE-R.. if I see the external bov greatly affect the boost between gear, I could install the recirculate adaptor or block off both adapter and use the EFR bov.

What do you think about this option ?

#2) If I keep the internal EFR BOV, do I need to delete the oem plastic tubing to have a ''cleaner more direct'' path for the single turbo ?

The turbo comes with a BOV already, use it. What's the point in adding another BOV when you have a BOV which has been given to you on a silver platter that will do the job at hand? You have already paid for it (as one of the EFR's "features").

....Unless you want it to go "tututu" then that's a different story.

Hectic bov noises are a high priority for some!

I admit, I like the loud surge sound ( not the high pitch hks makes). Some will go with 3.5' or 4 inch exhaust with one muffler. I don't like it. I have a 3 inch with a varex and 2 muffler to keep it as quiet as possible. I prefer bov sound over excessive-loud exhaust note. To each his own right ?

With that said, if the difference is minime, I'm willing to sacrifice 15whp and 100rpm spool-up to hear my bov. However, if the difference is going to be 35whp and 400rpm, I will keep the internal EFR. No need to flames me. :)

Need stiffer springs in the gates to bring boost on earlier and hold more boost later in the rpm.
