Not sure if this is something you guys would want to do, but I thought we could maybe update the Turbo upgrade dyno results section and make it a bit more user friendly and more usable.

My idea is a complete "re-doing" of those sections (RB25/RB20/RB26 etc) and making it into an easy to search topic with standardised forms to fill out by a person when posting.

What I mean by that is as follows:

Say we have a completely new thread from scratch.

RB25 TURBO DYNO RESULTS

To start a new post in the section, one would not simply type their post into the standard window and put a mixture of information in, sometimes missing vital information that is needed to get a good understanding of the car (this is pretty much the case in most posts), but instead tick off a bunch of lists/forms like you would in a questionnaire.

Here is a quick example of what it could look like:

turboupgrade.jpg

It would cover all the essential information that is needed and would all have to be filled out for it to allow the post to be made. The requirement of an uploaded dyno graph would also be manditory (no imageshack listing so in 3 years time it simply dissapears).

This would allow very easy reading of all the posts and being able to search a lot quicker for a certain type of turbo used, or a certain fuel type, certain intake manifold etc.

It would stop posts such as:

"GT3071R, Splitfire coilpacks, 14psi, 270kw" With no dyno graph supplied to see what is actually going on or any good information listed such as fuel types etc.

All the old posts could be transferred over if they have the correct information and the ones missing a lot of information deleted. This also stops "bullshit" results that are missleading or a plain lie.

With so many parts, brands, fuels etc available nowadays there are so many different setups and it is a shame to see a cars dyno graph with out knowing all the details of the car. Or the other way around, an awesome list of parts and then simply a peak kw figure with no graph attached so you don't know what it is like at every RPM point.

I think this would be a good idea and would make a great addition to the website.

Anyway let me know what you think, just a thought. I realise it would be a bit of work and I would be very willing to help if that would be the case :)

Cheers

Phil

Yeah that's fair enough. The brands could definetely go, but the generic things like exhaust sizes, fuel types and stuff could still be in check boxes just to make it quicker.

There could also be a lot of additional boxes such as water meth, nitrous and stuff that simply have a yes or no. If no is selected than it simply doesn't get posted up. If yes is selected however, another box could appear for you to write more details of the setup in like shot size, water/meth ratio etc.

I think it would really give a better understanding of certain setups and make modifications for new people a lot easier to understand and see.

If for example you wanted results of a GT3076, you would search for GT3076 in the thread and you would get every single dyno graph of a GT3076 with all the information listed all the same for easier viewing and without discussions between people in the thread or half a dozen qoutes of the same dyno graph.

I like this idea. Those threads can be tricky to search if you are looking for specific setups/results. However I imagine integrating a form like that with the forum could be tricky? That would be a question for the programming boffins to answer I guess!

Well that's exactly right. Because every post is different in there with a mixture of layouts and information it makes it hard to read through quickly/search. Add to the fact that people have discussions in the thread it makes it very hard to actually search in there as it is.

Ideally I would like to have it setup so that if you search for example "TO4Z" in the thread, you get a page result of every single T04Z setup set out in the exact same way all with dyno graphs attached.

Would make it very useful in threads where a new person asks about a particular turbo, you could instead say "search for GT3076 in the RB25 results thread" and bring up a perfectly set out list.

But yeah it comes back to the boys that actually do the programing for SAU (does Christian do most of it?) to say whether it is possible, too difficult and time consuming or a really good idea :ermm:

What do we do with results that are 5yrs old?

From users in a fair few cases that are not around anymore?

No way some of that old info is gonna be purged, it's some of the best/longest standing we have!

I like the idea, however to make a form as such is a pain in the arse.

Would have to be a single shopping list style thing one line per mod (as most people do now)

Well I figured that the old info could be "rewritten" or something by mods to make it fit the new layout? I dunno, the old info was the tricky part...

Obviously it's just an idea and whatever way is easiest would be good. Just thought if there was more of a template style form to fill out it would make the section a lot better.
