I have a 1997 Series 1 RB25DET engine on my Stagea and since receiving the vehicle over 2 years ago have had a problem with the engine cutting out intermittently. Only seems to happen when the A/C is running and the accelerator is slightly feathered after idling (in slow moving traffic for instance). A couple of trips to the local mechanic have not resolved the problem so any assistance would be appreciated.

I would recommend you try cleaning out your idle control valve (at the back of the plenum) and also your air flow meter.

See if that fixes it, or at least rules them out.

No aftermarket BOV fitted? What's ur idle rpm in neutral with handbrake on and no a/c and then with a/c

Clean aac valve

Clean afm

Copper plugs at .8mm

Block intake pipe and pressurize intake system with bike pump and check for leaks

Check timing

Reset ecu

Report back.

In answer to questions, the engine doesn't stall when idling in neutral or in drive when stationary only when applying a small amount of revs when starting to move; engine rpm drops off suddenly when the power cuts out; no aftermarket BOV is fitted; idle rpm in neutral with handbrake and no a/c is 750rpm, with a/c on start up goes to 900rpm then drops to 800rpm.

Sunday is my only day off work so will try and do the checks suggested then.

Does sound like AFM or even TPS needing adjustment. See if you can borrow another AFM to rule that out.
