Hey guys,

I bought an Oil temp meter and my mechanic said that i need to drill a hold in my oil sump to fit the oil temp sensor, an easier alternative is to buy a "sandwich plate" to put in between the oil filter.

Do you know where I can find one of these ? And how much do they cost ?

thanks !

the problem is, i dont want to drain the oil as i've just serviced my car last week.

My mechanic told me to get the plate to put in between the oil filter and the engine.

So i could put my oil temp sensor thus not having to remove the oil and make the job much easier.

So i'm looking for this plate thingy now ..

You will have to remove the oil filter which will spill oil out anyway.

You can get sandwich plates at revolution race gear. I got one which is hooked up to my oil cooler and remote oil filter relocator.

Unless the sensor has or can have a 90 deg bend in it id be careful mounting it in the sump plug location...you never know when you are going to run over something.

Revolution Racegear/Earls/Speedshops sell sandwhich plates for $50-60, not that expensive, the cheaper ones may require you to tap a hole though... If you dont want to run an oil cooler at this time, just by pass the oultet straight to the inlet, makes upgrading with an oil cooler easier down the track once you are horrified by the temps your oil sees

Actually sell the temp gauge and put the money towards a nice 19 row oil cooler, then oil temp isnt a worry. :D

YOur gunna have to drain some of the oil either way.

Using a plate would be the best way I'd say. I went for the adaptor in the sump plug.

If you go the sump plug way, you'll have to buy one and then take it too a machine shop and get the right thread put on it - I looked EVERYWHERE and couldn't find one.....

I think it was a 10x1.25 thread ?? Best checking for yourself though.

does anyone have revolution race gear's number ?

I dont need an oil cooler at the moment because my car is fairly stock-ish.

project will only commence once i have saved enough money (poor student here :D )

My friend told me not to drill the hole because if i scrap it, then oil would come out

and stuff, besides my car is too low to take any risks ..
