The specs Ive been able to find indicate a gain in HP over the Pro S, with a loss of some torque.

Hopefully its similar to the Pro S.

Hamish: Your results with the Pro S are what made me want this turbo. After seeing the results with E85 I was sold. Was told by Nengun that this turbo was new so who knows. From what I can see theres a GT2835 R, which seems to have been out for a while, but Ive found very little info about the KAI

Even the HKS website has it hidden away pretty well.

No its more of a pressure balance thing . What happens is the leading edges of the lower or splitter blades are just inside or below where the radial slot is located . When the pressure is higher in front of the splitter blades the full height blades bypass some air out through the slot purely because its the lower pressure or least path of resistance . At higher revs the engine can swallow more air so the pressure in front of the splitter blades decreases so the air previously being bypassed goes through the housing to the engine .

I know it does work but I am still not quite following, isn't the pressure always going to be higher on the engine side and the intake (vacuum) is always going to be the path of least resistance?

BTW: I didnt relise the Pro S didnt bolt straight up to the dump pipe.... This saves me a bunch of headaches trying to get my dump pipe changed to fit between the HKS dump and the Cat

This rings alarm bells for me as you know how much this can affect the Garrett equivalents when they bolt straight up to the standard dump pipe. If you are going to spend the money on a HKS, then I would be demanding the Pro S. How many successful results do you need. Also its not hard to buy a 3" front pipe and simply boly up the HKS dump to it, then sell your 1 piece.

I think we later confirmed its not the standard exhaust flange but it is a more readily availble one compared to the ProS version which is pretty much unique which makes it quite annoying if you dont have the matching HKS dump

i wouldn't be worried. those specs you posted from HKS are so close it not even worth thinking about the difference

Yeah that's what I thought. It's only a loss of about 10nm and a gain of a few horsepower. Should be good enough for me anyway.

The little graph shows it hits boost a touch earlier to I think? But again nothing worth bragging about, the turbos seem that similar it's not funny

It is the same cartridge, the housings are unlikely to be too different in function (if you can trust HKS engineers), so as long as you get a well made dump there will be a bees wang in it.

There will be more differences due to different dynos, different tuners, different ambient conditions.

The thing that concerns me is the HKS GTRS has only a slightly less power rating and yet in real world terms the 2835 Pro S is well ahead in terms of peak power.

Yeah I see what your saying there.....

May come down to the different front housing design with the KAI over the Pro S. Might very well be just basically a gt-rs rear housing but improved and with the 2835 front.

The best way will be for me to post up my results when mine is on and the car tuned. But it could be a while till that happens. Anything above 280rwkw will see me very happy, time will tell if it will make it that far. But I don't see why hks would make a turbo the same as another one in their range, seems more like the thinking behind this was to make it slightly easier/more suited to go on the skyline with the direct fit Nissan bolt patterns on the turbine side

But like I said, we will see if I'm right or wrong when its up and running lol

The GT-RS 53mm turbine, 52 trim 71mm comp vs HKS 2835ProS 56mm turbine, 56trim comp

The power ratings are based on theoretical compressor flow of the two 71mm compressors, the real world results are based on the combination of the turbine that is mated to it. If they have machined the housing with no testing it might be a bit of a risk but HKS are bound to have spent some time and effort making sure it flows well enough to keep it around the performance of the ProS.

Oh and btw everyone, I took it out for a drive on the weekend, and yeah I love it...

any gear at 6500rpm is just absolute madness, I dont think I need anymore power, unless I was running slicks anymore power would just not work well as far as traction goes...

finally my 33 is scaring me again... went straight up a huge hill in 3rd and practically was going to launch off the top... luv it, next I need semis...

yep ok E85 just purely so I can run less boost and generate less heat would be great of course...

I simply dont have E85 in my area and my tuner said my 550cc injectors arnt big enough....

Am happy for someone to correct me here, yet E85 runs at higher EGT than 98??

Yet am glad to hear your car is an all out animal as it should be :)
