Howdy brains. Im pissed off :P I got a power fc a while back and was not powering on at all when I tried it in an r32. I got it checked and the main 'chip' or whatever it was was bolloxed so he got one from another rb20det power fc and tested it etc, all was good.

Went to try it today in my a31 to see if it would start it, and nothing, not even trying to start. turning over, but thats it. The commander isnt lighting up at all either.

Whats going on?!

They are not the same. I had an A31 ecu pinout.. but I cant seem to find it now. Ill post it if I find it.

You can try to re-pin the ecu connector on A31 loom. Or you can try using a R32 loom. My ceffy is using an R32 loom.

oh man, if thats true. i f**king love you.

haha i have gtr injectors on a 32 loom in a box outside

The r32 loom wont be a perfect fit. You may have to repin the connector that goes to the lower engine harness (the one that has the aircon wiring on it). My A31 and R32 have different oil pressure senders, that may be a problem too. There might be other problems, but it shouldnt be difficult.

f**k i hate when things dont go to plan :P yep its an original det model, and its a 1990. I went to plug in the ecu, fitted perfect etc, just didnt do anything at all. fc commander didnt light up which has me worried :P

Late model A31/C33 use the same harness, ECU, connectors, AFM, etc as R32 (and yet uses the same connections on the inside to link with the dash, air con, wipers, etc).

I think 90 or 91 onwards

you sure about that? My a31 is a 91 facelift, the engine conversion I got was from a facelift R32, I used the original RB20de a31 loom on the r32 Rb20T because the dash plugs were completely different, thats also using a factory R32 ECU on that loom, no probs

That's what I meant. The dash plugs are Cefiro/Laurel specific (which are the same plugs from 88 - 94) but the rest differs.

My late model Laurel uses R32 plugs (AFM, ignition, etc), but dash plugs connected right up to my 89 Cefiro body loom.

Might be later that the engine bay / ECU plugs changed ?

My other Ceffy used its original DE loom and DE shit like crank angle sensor, afm, ignition, and a DET Cefiro ECU, to run an R32 DET motor.

I think so, I vaguely remember writing something up on it on D1NZ forums, (my username on there is 'driftrich') I think I had a similar issue in NZ fitting a 88 R32 rb20det into a 92 cefiro

that prick of an engine had all square plugs

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
