So we picked up the wife's A3 at the Goldy yesterday (came up from Melb by truck), & did all the req'd crap to get it registered. (Who new a set of Euro plates cost $400 What a rip off!)

The RACV report we got before buying the vehicle said the car was due for a service so I had a look in the log book. Impressively the service intervals are at 15,000kms (typical of a lot of vehicles, I know) & so I was expecting the last service to have been done ~15K ago. But no, the car totally missed the last service so it's nearly 30K since it's last oil change!!!

Furthermore, it looks like the service it missed was a bigish one, with all the engine belts needing to be changed. Grrr.

Since this is the recipe thread, I'm thinking of developing a recipe for broiled car salesman. Guaranteed to leave a bad taste in your mouth, lol.

In other news... I'm a lazy fecker. Dales bar isn't on yet, so I had a look at where it goes in some pics. Now I haz a worry. I have a lot of (aftermarket) pipework through there, so I hope it fits.

Be annoyed if it doesn't.

Leon, that is pretty disapponting, knowing that you would have asked him about service history and when the thing was last serviced.

You could obviously ask some appropriate questions of the Gent, and make your feelings felt. Get him to pay for the service at your nearest audi dealer

Funny, I thought I asked all the right questions. His answer when asked about the service history was 'it has the service log book & has been serviced at an Audi dealership from new". Obviously that doesn't mean it is up to date on the services. I very nearly asked him to scan in the log book & email it to me, but I'd already bugged him about a million other things (had dent doctor fix a small dent etc) & I expected it would need a service anyway .

It's booked in on Friday to get a long needed going over. I'm using a local "European specialist" who will hopefully know what he's looking at (doesn't hold breath). And since it has a nationwide warranty, I'm telling him to look closely at anything that could be considered prone to failure. Won't be long & I'll be DIY'ing this one too, I suppose.

Ultimately the missus is over the moon with hew 'new' car (also means I'm free to play M35 to my hearts content ) & we got what I consider to be a bargain in the A3 field at present. All happy in the commsman household - for now.

Oh, nearest Audi dealer is about 100km away.

Euro specialist should be fine with it I guess. I'm far from an expert, but I gathered that most of the VAG cars use the same 2.0 diesel, maybe gearbox?

Anyway, as long as it looks fairly clean down the guys of it, should be fine. I had a Lexus that skipped a service altogether, was fine, olds have a rover that was the same, still keeps on going, only with a appetite for suspension parts/bushes.

Not that i'd recommend it at all, but its not the end of the world by a long shot.

I thought they were all exactly the same, but there are minor differences according to the experts. My guess is they are mainly system control (ECU etc) or relatively insignificant ancillary equipment, but I really don't know.

It is certainly a clean car. Looks like it's never been driven out of the city. It's all gonna change now, lol.

It only takes 10 minutes to fit, why didn't you just bolt it on while you were under there?

Oh, I just stuck a torch under there to have a look. I couldn't remember the exact route of the external gate plumb back. There's also another exhaust brace that fits up in there too that I remembered. Been at work, only just got home.

When's the key turning on yours?

It lives, I started it tonight. Just a few little jobs to do and it's back on the road. I need to learn how to bleed the Attessa and solder a few wires back together under the dash. Power steering was a bitch to bleed.

How'd you do the PS? Just lock to lock about 30 times?

I had to do mine, since we were pushing the car around between workshops.

Attesa Plug under the dash. 2 person job- why 3 Iain - dont need to stay in the boot!

stay in the boot to keep topping the bottle up. if you get it go dry, you need to start over
