im in the same predicament as u atm. im looking at both the same car as u 2010 utes. holden vs ford lol

(i was looking at the xr6 turbo ute though not the v8)

im leaning towards the holden for a couple of different reasons

1) it looks way tuffer than the ford to me

2) the sound of the v8 in the holden is fkn crazy

3) chicks dig the holden more lolz

+ the redline has the nice brembos and because it doesnt have the leaf springs like the ford has way nicer handling...ive driven both and the holden is very comfortable to cruise around in and when u need the power its right there from nice and low in the rev range....

for towing the ford is better though, my mate works at holden and even he told me if i wanna tow get the ford lol. unless i option the f**k out of the holden coz u can get a 2600kg towing kit....

but for the few times a year i take my car to the track or jetski to the beach i reckon the holden

God i wish they could tow that but the utes can only tow max 1600kg. Even tho they are on the same platform as sedan that can tow 2100kg.

I like the Redline but i have to agree with the wheels comment, not a fan and i sell them lol.

In regards to the brakes it is exactly the same setup as the HSV GXP so they didnt feel the need for them at rear as well. As you all know that most of the braking is done by the front.

I would go Holden ( not just because i work for them) mainly because of the technology. the falcon is still basically AU underpinnings. Leaf sprung rear axle my be good for HEAVY loads but normally driving is crap, unless you like to be always on the ragged edge of control no matter what the speed.

And the new Holden IQ system is SOOO easy to use.

well thats my 2 cents worth

Are you looking at auto or manual?

the auto gearbox is definately the best in the ford.

I don't tow, so no need for it.

The other thing I don't understand with holden, why would you only put brembo's on the front and not the back as well?

You should go and test drive a FPV F6.

DEFINATELY MANUAL LOLZ

my beemer is auto for when i cbf and want to cruise.

i asked the same question to the dude at holden coz it was the first thing i noticed visually from the outside, he basically said because the back is so light it doesnt need such massive breaks. i came up with my own theory though, the redline pack only costs and extra $1500 so for brakes, the extra interior stuff, the wheel options, the nav/ipod/driver interactive bullshit thing in the centre console haha i reckon its not a bad price for the extras u can get....

if u get an auto in the ssv, when ur cruising like on a highway etc it turns off 4 cylinders in the engine so u use much less fuel but when u put ur foot back down it turns them all back on in some ridiculously short amount of time (ill check the brochure when i get home coz i dont recall the exact number)

ill sus out the f6 but i think there a lil pricey... i got a gtr in transit atm so dont wanna spend too much cash lol

however on a really off topic the ford dealerhip i went to (doncaster road) has a ford focur RS edition...it was f**king awesome haha

i was told by a mate who just bought an ssv ute he said that the dealer told him u can option ur towing capacity and get up to 2600 keys...is this not true??

fair points, on the holden IQ system, looks the busniess. but yeah, the wheels will go if i buy one.

As far as the Maloo goes, too much stuff is going on with the front end, plus they are more expensive.. are they even available with the soft tornau?

i saw a white maloo yesterday like a brand new one yeah...in a word, epic!! i fkn luv them.

any reason u wanna go the soft tonou cover as a pose to the hard top ??

im definately going hard top !!

haha, tweek the exhaust and they sound mental.

soft tornau because i carry office furniture around and it tends to hang out, so i would probably damage the hard lid.

Plus surfboards, bikes and other bits and pieces.

Have a look at the F6 tornado though.

Yea he was told a bit of a lie there. They are max rated at 1600kg. The bar that is used is the same as the 2100kg but if you towed over 1600kg and you wanted warranty on ANYTHING we can tell if it has been towing larger loads and it will void your warranty. You might get aftermarket kits but Holden will void the warranty on the car if you fit it. They have become more anal in regards to aftermarket products, to the point of they can void the dealers dealer license.

And max rating on sedan 3.6 and 6.0 is 2100kg. 3.0 is 1600kg as well.

oh really, fkn lieing flamin mongrels ...lol

alrighty, warranty aside, can i get an after market kit that i can use to tow my car, i doubt it will be much more than 1600kgs anyway. im actually getting a custom trailer made up at the moment out of chrmoly so it should be pretty light and the car is stripped to its guts lol

how does the sedan tow more than the "work horse" lol

you could tow 2000kg with 1600kg tow package from holden as they use same bar and pickup points on the 1600kg as they do on the 2100kg. if you are going to tow just over 1600kg it will be fine.

But if you are looking at 2600kg there is going to be a problem i reckon.

What utter rubbish.

Have you driven a live axle late model Falcon ute? I'd say no based on your biased crap.

Oh, and you do know my 1974 Datsun 180b has the same rear end set up as your uber-technological Commodore, don't you?

Lies, it has a smudgy piece of shit touch screen, it's the most technologically advanced car evar.

good to see that Holden are catching up on things the Japanese have had for the past 10-20 years now :P

It's pretty funny thought isn't it? Holden saying its new technology... I mean come on...

I know one of the head designers at Ford and he is a very, very cluey person. Ford's region desing centers recruit from the absolute cream of the crop. And find someone who works on the Prod line in Broady or Geelong and ask them what they think of working for Ford.

Then find someone who works for Holden and ask them what it's like working for Holden. I can tell you know the Ford employee will likely have nothing but good things to say about the conditions they work under and the treatment they receive. The Holden person will likely report almost the exact opposite.

They has a large effect on the quality of the product.

And Ford actually has a good reputation in their price bracket. Holden have a good rep too, just not as quality as Ford.

At the end of the day you get a shit load OF CAR FOR $50 in either a Commodore or Falcon, but the Falcons are generally a more robust proposition.

I would expect a head designer to be a very, very cluey person, wouldn't you? You can't tell me shit. When you survey each and every factory worker then you can tell me something and I'll agree, until then it's all generalised assumptions about the subjective opinions of people that you don't know. Take for instance that I know factory engineers at Holden who are quite happy with their jobs - according to you they are not.

Saw an interesting discussion today about the new GT, allegedly made 353rwkws straight off the showroom floor and ran [email protected] weighs 1860kg without a driver so 117mph is HUGE!!!!

The problem with the GT is that until Ford put a ridiculous amount of power into the thing, or shed a ridiculous amount of weight, and properly seperate it from the rest of the product range as a true flagship...it will never be a shadow of the original GT (or HO). 12.9, is nice, but compared to the rest of the FPV and HSV offerings, nothing really special. A flagship GT that would have EVERYONE talking would IMO be capable of a low to flat 12 from the showroom.

Now an interesting thing in this here thread - boz has offered up one of those atypical Jap technology fan boi perspectives, forgetting that the Jap cars sporting such goods as touch screens back 10-20 years ago also sported 100k price tags, a far cry from your Aussie family sedan price tag. Completely different markets. Successful troll is successful. But do fan bois like you, really, think that a multi million dollar car manufacturer doesn't have the access/ability to implement an overseas technology in their vehicles at a given time? It's a marketing choice not to. It was not appropriate back then, it is appropriate now. L/2 marketing boz.

Fair point that... have to agree..

My mate has owned the following and not learned a thing-

BA XR6 Turbo

BA XR8

BAII Pursuit

BAII Typhoon

BF Typhoon

The engines = WIN

Everything connected to it and involved in the delivery of power to the road = WEAK FAIL

I can't comment on the Holdens, but surely they don't break as easily?????
