You can do a diagnostic on the climate control, it will tell you if the sensors are stuffed. Turn the ignition on, hold the off button for five secs or so until the screen comes on, then press the temp increase button and it will flash a code. I cant remember what is what but im sure its been posted here before.

i got a 32 gts-t i dont know if its the same as GTR but i had the same problem and i thought the same..needs re gas but i went to get it done and the guy said it was fine. Found out it was to do with the pump. It wasn't starting when i turned the air con on. So i had a sparky wire me in a overide swith to power the pump and what happens is i turn the air con like normal...wait a minute and if it doesn't come out cold turn it off..flick the switch on then turn the air con back on and Bobs your grandma...it works

just thought i let you know incase you go to re gas it and it already gased

Hiroshima Screamer - If there is no gas in the system you cannot damage the aircon compressor as there is a low pressure switch which will stop the compresser from cutting in.

KBNR32 & junkie13 - Have a mate turn your aircon on while you are looking at the front of the aircon compressor, if its working then you will hear a "click" and see the front clutch engage, the revs should also pick up approx 200 rpm. If the clutch doesn't engage then you have:-

i) a stuffed compressor

ii) no gas in the system and therefor the low pressure switch is not allowing the compressor to kick in.

To check if there is a problem in the ecu run a live 12V connection direct to the compressor's input and see if the clutch engages.

Hope this helps as I have been there myself.

i was made to understand by not having the air con working properly and using it could cause the motor to work overtime thuss engine temp will go up ? This would be a result of only having the engine fan cooling the motor as aposed to having both fans working as a cooling system. When there is no gas in the system the sensor automatcially cuts out the fan meaning the engine has to count on the one fan to do the whole job.Not pretending to be an expert just sharing what i was told when i was encountering similar probs.

by the way anyone know what re-gasses cost? its like $90 isnt it? im pretty sure thats why mine blows hot air, but with autumn and winter around the corner im not really worried, P.S does aircon cause ur car to eat more petrol? i thought it was cause u had to drive it a bit harder because the aircon takes away soem power, am i wrong?
