We were going to do the fmic ourselves as well to save some money, but we ran out of time with the car being booked into gav's for tuning and the cooler only arriving the day we were meant to drop it down. So I just wanted it on and stuff, I did have a choice, but I'm stubbern and wanted the cooler on asap. I've waited 2 damn years for the thing!!

They only left the numberplate bar in because I said I was going to get the car resprayed and the panel beater would do it. But, I don't know if that is going to happen now. Plus I don't want the cooler there for poser value. It's actually doing something. Not just sticking out the front of the car screaming "HI, I'M A FMIC, PLEASE COME STEAL ME!"

I kinda like the hidden look, and it's kinda protecting it against rocks and the like. But, I know it's "KINDA" restricting flow. Not that much, but anything's a help.

yep. i dont like the idea of it out there for the cops to see really. and i think a hacked up 33 bar might look a bit dodgy. i did order a slimline plate tho, only 60bux so thatll help a tiny bit, will look better anyway.

i hope ive got the time to put it in too. i think im going to finish at lunch time on a friday and hit it hard friday arvo/nite. then i can get what i need on saturday and finish off on sunday. i did watch my next door neighbour put one in his 32 and it took him 4 hours from start to finish.

Plus, when I went to the panel beaters, he said that he would personally buy a front bar that's in worse condition if I'm getting the whole car painted and keep the good one. The MSPEC bars are becoming very rare and sort after.

im hoping to get an air saw to do the job. i'll just be cutting the bottom lip forward if it needs it, and id say it will. the number plate block can stay for the time being.

With a HKS cooler it should be easy like mine. Because they are actually made specifically for that type of car by a company that's reputable (is that the word?) by nissan.

I was worried it would take ages, but the only thing they had to do was cut a hole in the front drivers side to let the pipe through (that's if you aren't using the standing piping).

Wade, I'm really not sure about 32's, but in the R33's they've got a support bar behind the plastic numberplate holder which has to be cut (which is another reason mine wasn't cut out). Because I got a thicker than normal cooler (apexi coolers are thicker but not as tall) 88mm thick, they had to cut a bit of the lower lip away to fit the cooler properly. But that is the ONLY thing that was cut. Perfect fit otherwise.

Not like the hybrid kits for R33's where I've been told that the first instruction is to cut your fan blades so the pipes fit properly without hitting the pipe..

how much did they cut off the bottom lip erin? if yours is 88 and mine is 65 and they cut only a little bit, maybe HKS designed em to bolt on no cutting at all. i hope so, i dont wanna stuff up the cutting

wade - do you have a gtst or gtr? my neighbour got a greddy kit i think and he didnt cut anything at all, but it was one of those kits where the pipe bends back under the cooler and fits upto the stock turbo piping. i'll be using a 70mm holesaw to drill the chassis rail.

    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
