yeah, while its tempting to take the cheaper option. I think its probably a good idea in this case to get it repaired professionally, it is your steering afterall and an important part of the safety, etc of the car.

If you can track down a 2nd hand control arm, would you be able to just replace the bushes?? They are just rubber doova-hickeys aren't they?
