Hey guys,

Feels like ages since I lasted posted but I have been lurking the forums for the last 2 months while at work.

Any way I am looking at joining SAU vic and have a few questions to ask before I do to see if it is right for me.

The main reason im wanting to join is coz I got my license a few months ago and now have a real urge to GO FAST. Knowing that the road is not the right place for this (speed cameras, loss of licence, cop trouble and most importantly its not safe) I am wanting to go to the track and do some laps. As some reasearch has shown SAU Vic is CAMS affiliated which means I can get my racing license and then go to track days and have fun.

Im also looking for some social fun and to build my knowledge of cars more. Thing is though I am very newbish when it comes to cars and I drive a commo. Will SAU vic still take me or is it more only for imports and skylines (a car that I do love and do intend on getting in the future).

so how social is the club and how often are track days? Also where are the track days held? I dont have that good a knowledge of where in Melb / Vic one can go racing.

SAU Vic allows anyone to join, and the atmosphere at a club track day should be fine.

You might be a bit out of place on a cruise if you care about that. lol

Track days are usually Sandown, Winton, Phillip Island, Haunted Hills....

you can roll in a rickshaw for all it matters mate. sau dont discriminate on the car you drive.

as for events, see the following two links.

Events calendar

Motorsport stuff

once you join, you also get access to a members section with exclusive events and such. kee[ an eye on the events section cos in about three weeks im gonna step up the number of cruises, meets and social stuff we run. theres plenty going on as is.

best way to get going imo is to come to one of our gen meetings, held every 3rd tuesday of the month. introduce yourself to any of the guys and or girls hanging round, we dont bite.

regarding driving your car on cruises, if it really is an issue, just jump in someone elses and ride shotgun

Thanks for the reply. I was just making sure there was no rules etc about it. I will defs take my car to something she is totally stock but but still its a first car and for that alone I love her, That said I am looking at auto N/A skylines atm. so might save up to get one.

might just come down to the next gen meeting (and apply for membership sometime in the next week looks like its only 70$)

sorry to be naive but what actually happens on the cruises?

Ok i can make it very easy.

I have a RWD turbo car, and they let me into the club..... fair enough it's a Toyota and a Diesel, but that no excuse for me being a member. This club is Ace!

All you need is 1 trip to DECA, and you'll be hooked!!!

A day on the skidpan and a night out in Shepparton and you'll know that it's money well spent!

basically a bunch of car guys meeting in a carpark or similar, talking a lot of shit, then going for a drive on one of victoria's many enjoyable/scenic roads. we usually have a destination in mind for the official SAUVic ones, and we try to throw a few different elements in to keep it interesting. but yeah couple of stops for lunch, pics or spiders and then home again. sounds simple but its a lot of fun and can take up anywhere from a few hrs to a whole weekend.

we dont hoon, and any who are so inclined arent welcome. best way is to go along to the next one or have a look in the archived events section. it'll take too long for me to describe lol

sounds good.

Must say I like the no hooning part. I love cars but see no point in hooning.

When is deca on? can I still go and can somebody give me a basic expination of what goes on and do I need a CAMS license?

DECA is 20th this month up at Shepparton. A number of people head up on the Friday (19th) though. You don't have to compete but most people wish they had after watching for a couple of runs. Accomodation thread is up but is in the members area.

Highly recommend signing up and a commodore isn't out of place anywhere in the club. Great bunch of guys and girls.

This club more than any will welcome you no matter what car you drive. As long as you love cars you're welcome here. You won't get a place in DECA now but come up and watch, get a passenger ride. You'll be hooked.

well I'm going to sign uptoday. hopefully all goes smooth and my application only takes a few days so I can head down to the Show n Shine. The membership thread says that 15 business days is the min time I should wait before complaining. Can any members tell me what the quickest method to apply is? I am thinking the quickst might just be to fill out the PDF file then email and do a bank transfer.

Yeah, do online and pay via netbank.

So if you're lucky, less than 15 business days, but once again, they may have received loads of membership applications.

And welcome aboard.
