hi guys i'm new here. I recently purchased a r33 GTST pretty stockish has a exhaust and front mount cooler and 10psi boost.

I red lined the car today for about a second and something made a slight metal 'ting' sound and now the car drives funny.

The car is completely normal to drive under no boost, however, when you step on in, it only boosts to about 4psi and the induction sound sounds different to what it did before.

also, I didn't have a BOV on my car so it used to flutter before, now, when I release the accelerator, it just makes a funny 'shhhh' sound from somewhere.

I checked all the pipes and simple things like that, but I couldn't find anything?

Could anyone with knowledge about these cars shed some light as to what it might be?

I've tried searching and have found nothing unfortunately.

thanks and peace!

im not 100% familiar with RB motors since i am very new to skylines and very rarely work on them but im a mechanic and it sounds like maybe you could have bent one of the butterflys in the intake.

seems to add up to me because the lack of blow off valve would have left excess pressure in the intake when you backed off and a bent butterfly would cause lower vaccum pressure which would then in turn affect the wastegate actuators.

His is a GTST, not a GTR, therefore it has one butterly, not 6.

Anyway there really could be a number of possibilities and without knowing the full story every one is simply going to be guessing. Most likely sounds like a small boost leak though.

as i said im not extremely familiar with the engines, i own a gtr and was going off that.

wouldnt it be good to go off a mechanics guess??? even though it is over the internet

check my option out first, its the easiest, and costs nothing.

Thanks for the opinions. I don't think it would be a boost leak, if it was wouldn't I get boost spicking? Also, I would still get some sort of flutter or bov sound even if it was a boost leak yeah? But thanks again guys, will check the butterfly tomorrow. But if it was the butterfly wouldn't the car run funny the whole way through not just on boost? Thanks again

nah it would still run normal because the computer would compensate.

when i say bent i dont mean bent in half, i mean a slight bow in the butterfly.

I hear what your saying Ben, but that doesnt explain the loud ting at WOT.

Something has broken or split at full power , trozzles idea sounded more plausible..

Or as i said my turbo bolts wound themselves loose and i was having these same symptons.

If your lucky its just a leak somewhere..Keep looking

    • It was roughly 3.5 hours.    car went in around 11:00 and I was done around 2:30 He did the initial runs, install the BC and then Nistune install and tune.  The best part was sitting in the lobby and hearing the skyline on full throttle at the dyno 😂😂
    • Glad it all went smooth. How long did the tuning process take?
    • Yeah that was kind of the same feedback my tuner gave me.  the boost tee is until I can sort out my plan for the electronic boost controller and what I’d get, where I’d mount the dash etc.  I’m happy with this until I can figure it out. Not a big fan of the A-pillar gauges. I’d like to get a clean install of the boost gauge - something digital like GFB.  Something like that might fit neatly where the ashtray is and look clean. I feel like replacing the OEM triple gauge is a bit extreme for a weekender like my skyline. And it’s not making crazy power to need all the additional sensors/gauges.
    • I'm about to swap my box to Tremec T56 Magnum F & initially thinking of re-using my DCS twin plate (can get it re centred for the bigger spline) but it's been called out the box will be noisy (rattle) as the clutch is unsprung.  So I'm doing as much research as possible. I'm not so worried about holding the power as I'll go the track version which on paper will hold the maybe 1000hp I make. It's the longevity I worry about. DCS told me they don't use a sprung centre as it's just something that can break. The uni clutch has a very complicated sprung centre. Any one had or heard about any issues with it failing? Thanks in advance.
    • Auto is at least 10% (from my real, actual experience with different torque converters and manual on the same setup) ~185rwkw at 11.6psi (peak!) is entirely what one would expect without a FMIC or anything else on the intake, it does bleed off towards the higher RPM so it's what, 9psi there? Note: There is nothing that can be done about this with a manual boost tee. If you want to hold it steady and gain more top end, well - You will need electronic boost control.....
