Hi mate I think it's ether 6 inch or 6.5 inch best take it out and

Check . Iv hear people say 6 inch and then others say 6.5 inch I don't know wether they modify it to fit the bigger one ?

Whether it's a 6"or a 6.5"speaker, they're pretty much all interchangable as far as I know (maybe with the exception of a few particualr speaker models) - most people are just too lazy to mention that extra half inch of speaker diameter when they're describing it.

Be careful of magnet depth nick!

Very valid point, Chris! But once that's taken into account, all the buyer/installer has to worry about is if there are enough holes on the frame around the speaker to give you diffferent options when mounting them.

hiya chris,

i've pulled it out so might just walk into a shop and have a look i suppose. Looking at something pretty standard, not more then $50 for the pair. Can i get 6.5" with a fitty? Where should i look, MOB?

I changed all four speakers about a month ago, I used pioneer speakers, not sure on model number, they were 6 inch but as others have warned the magnet depth was to big for the standard bracket, to make them fit i ground out the plastic bracket with a grinder attachment for a power drill to allow them to fit, pretty sure i had to drill new screw holes aswell as the originals didnt line up. Also keep in mind depending on what sort of head unit u have, upgrading ur speakers may cause a loss in sound performance if ur setup isnt the right power to run them. The stock speakers are max output of either 25 or 50 watts, i changed to 220 watts and didnt get particularly good sound until i changed the headunit aswell. I would also recomend changing all 4 speakers as the ones in the back are less important to u the driver then the ones in the front, u can use the standard brackers in the front buy using a hack saw to cut out the stock speaker cone and screwing the new speaker onto the standard bracket, the excess depth wasnt a problem for me still plenty of window clearance in the door and all in all a pretty easy job. I got everything i used from jbhifi, speakers were around 120 bucks each from memory, headunit was like 400 with aux and usb in and bluetooth handsfree phone, very convenient.

I dont even think I'd bother with MOB, just go to Repco, Supercheap or something like that. If your going to be only spending $50, their speakers will be better quality IMO as they have more purchasing power than a smaller trader like MOB.

For sure take the stocker with you to make sure they are about the same depth, otherwise the power window glass will end up contacting the magnet/back of the speaker, NOT COOL!

The stock white speaker mounts are not very accommodating for larger magnets or deeper cones and you may need to grind some out of them, its very easy though.

Ended up getting Sony 6" 2 ways for $52 at JB Hi Fi. Magnet depth wasn't an issue, getting the right holes in the plastic insert was though, had to Dremel out a section of the lip and drill new mount holes. Pretty easy once i got the first one in. Sound isn't much better if at all. But I hardly spend any time in that car so doesn't bother me. The ones in there were Clarions so not too bad for standards.

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps

    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
