So a friend of mine wants a car from Vic..

its been bought in under the 15 yer rule i have the documents infront of me for this,

it was previously registered in vic, but rego has lapsed..

i have been told i need to get it full engineered to get it registered in nsw.. so 1500 or so.. ontop of rego etc..

is this correct? i was under the impression i only needed to get a blueslip??

The wording on the rta website is so contradicting as usual..

but thanks Kristan, so its just like importing a 15 year old car once again..

i will let him know! going to be costly it seems.

exactly. 15yo rule 'compliance' (i use the word loosely) was a state thing. so each state had a slightly different interpretation of what needed to be done to 15yo imports to meet basic ADR and registration requirements in each state. so a car imported under the 15yo rule and registered in say qld, then sold and brought to NSW will most likely have to undergo some changes and at the least will need the engineers inspection.

Has this changed recenlty?

I purchased my 32 as a 15yo+ car out of Victoria, and just did a simple normal roadworthy (required whenever a car changes hands or rego lapses) and rego'd it in Qld.

It depends on whether or not it has a compliance plate - if it came in under the old 15 year rule, it wouldn't have a plate. Chances are it was actually complied, either under SEVS or under the old system.

is this for all cars or just modded ones?

All cars imported under the pre-1989 and 15-year rules that don't have compliance plates.

No, no plate, just an Aussie VIN punched into the tower.

to be honest it really depends on what state. as in both what state it was originally registered in and which state you want to register it in now. I can't give 100% answer and neither can the roads authority in your state. ring them 5 times and you will get 5 different answers to a question that only has 2 options... :P

but basically like iron chef said 15yo stuff was state based basic rego and adr requirements how that was interpreted differed pretty strongly from state to state so it can be a hassle or it could be a piece of piss. only one way to find out.....

Sorry for the thread bump,

But i briefly spoke to Iron Chef a week or so ago about bringing my car from Qld to S.A.

Pretty much its just a check over the whole car to make sure it complies to S.A.'s rules.

Any modification plates added (mine for instance was engineered with larger wheels and a roll cage) are null and void.

I rang up Transport S.A. and they pretty much said, get it checked out and if it meets the rego requirements, it'll get rego with an I.D. inspection.

Im still getting more information as the day goes, but ill be ringing regency when i get off my lunch break to just double check everything.

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
