Been looking around for the cheapest thing i can get doesnt matter if its stock as a rock. As long as its manual as im not a big fan of manual conversions. Ive been looking through www.tradecarview.com and found a red one on there at hte moment for $5000 not including shipping and compliance and the rest of it . So yeah any other places.

due the calculations man, like you i thought those cars were cheap but really if you go on carizma or whicherver website it was that has the link to tradecarview., you can do a free estimate calculation on the site and you'll see by the time it gets here it'll be about $11-12k, and thats not including reg etc. compliance itself is 2k so already realisticly your at 7k. + here you can test drive etc. if you bring it here from jap and it's a peice of shit, not saying it will be but there is a chance, you'll feel really stupid about yourself. also knocking the K's back seems to be a pretty common thing before they import em.

There's your first problem right there...

There's your first problem right there...

mate i know it aint nothing cheap but i should of really said the lowest price . because i know im looking at 10k or so . :P dont get me the wrong way as a cheap bastard . (p.s i really am)

My mate is selling a R34 GTT manual for 11k, with 190,000km on clock lol

But seriously, if you can't afford to buy one, you shouldnt be driving one... If you fork out ALL your money to buy the car, you won't have money for insurance and for repairs (when things goes wrong).

For 10k... You might be better off looking into a R34 sedan or R33 coupe.

Im not a big fan of 4 Doors . can anyone just point me in the rite direction. Carmens didnt have much only a V35 .

did you call him?

07-3881-1800. I know there are a few 33's sitting there and a 34 sedan. the V35 is his drive car and I have done a fair bit to that one myself.

i gave your mate at carmens a ring he gave me a rough estimate of around 16k to get it to me in sydney. As he is in brisbane. so im thinking of that as my best price at the moment anyone heard of other places?

Im 17 mate, Whys that?

And please dont ramble on about me having a R34 at my age, because it after all is my choice, just a few of my mates from work have told me to try importing and see what its like, got no where else to look, ive tried google etc. I understand they are a expensive car to insure etc. But i am willing to pay for it, But at the moment im sick of driving a VL, and im almost ready to bite the bullet. so yeah.

lol nah man dont get on the defensive i'm literally just trying to work out "what sort of a dude you are"

like i need to know what language i can speak to you to help you out - i don't want to come off patronising if you're a 34 year old guy with heaps of knowledge, but at the same time i dont want to overload your head with info if you're - say.. i 17 year old kid..

okay now we can get into the nitty gritty.

you're 17, there's nothing wrong with wanting an R34 at your age, they're an excellent choice.. new(ish) with a nice array of features and they're a pretty cool car for a 17 year old.. soooo basically - nothing wrong with yearning for R34.. as you said, it's your choice - and it's a bloody good one.

my advice - you're on a double edge sword - you're 17. you want an R34, importing can cause massive headaches and a person of your age doesn't need the heartache, i'm 25 now and imported car number one at age 19.. but even that was with assistance from my older brother who was a wealth of knowledge to me! i wouldn't have been able to do that without him..

if you're wanting to see some sites that you can just "look around" then check out import monster's page.. check out j-spec.. check out directimported's auction search system... and also check out import monsters page too..

these guys all have a neat comprehensive auction search system and have HEAPS of info on them to fill your head with..

if you have a budget of about 10K .. then please understand you're looking at a car budget of about 300K yen FOB.. which means 200K car cost.. which in aussie money terms means your car's value is going to be about 2.5 thousand dollars, 3 thousand at a stretch,

the rest of your costs involve:

~1K japanese de-reg fees and prep for deportation (FOB fee)

~1K brokerage fee (trust me. get.a.broker.)

~1.5K shipping

quarrantine customs and steam cleaning

towing

compliance

towing

inspection

registration

AND allow a few hundred extra bucks in case something goes wrong - you just - never know..

so as you could imagine - you won't buy a lot of car for that much... never know - you might get lucky.. but when you're importing a car that you only essentially paid 2.5 grand for.. is the 3 month wait really worth it??

that's your choice - personally i'd be shopping hard locally if i were in your shoes..

and

honestly

forget insurance.

you're looking down the barrell of paying what, 2.5K - 3K a year to comprehensively insure a car that's worth what, 7K in the eyes of an insurance company? it's very wasteful in that aspect..

long story short, you have the right frame of mind .. and you're on the right track.. but i dont think that right now is the time for you to be importing cars from other countries..

non turbo R34 is a Pplaters dream car, but there are other cars you can have with that budget which will go faster and handle better.. here's a breif list of cars within your budget:

Jzz31 2JZ toyota Soarer

Lexus GS300 (id have one of these over an R34 ANYDAY)

Mitsubishi FTO (never driven one - but i'd imagine would be fun for Pplater)

ED honda civic (old school charm and punchy fun with a myriad of engine swap choices)

ae111 toyota levin (would LOVE to drive one of these!)

pulsar SSS (2 litres of fury)

EG Civic (again - myriad of engine swap choices)

all these cars are either lightweight and flighty fun handlers or larger block feature packed luxury cruisers..

why you would choose a 2.5 ltr boxy sedan with no turbo and limited features (when compared to toyota's offerings) is beyond me..

let me know how you go!!!

I essentially agree with Mr Eps.

Coming from skylines I bought a JZZ31 soarer (2JZ - no sh!t). It handles well (for a boat, well I say boat its about the same as a R33), parts are decently priced, they are oh so easy to work on (no joke every bolt is a ten or twelve mm with maybe one exception that I could find [door hinge bolts]), even the wiring looms are well made and easy to understand even for someone who is frightened by complex electronics like myself.

Best purchase I ever made and so very cheap. Mine is a 94 model in black with a genuine 79,800 kilometres (yes genuine, we have all the documentation and a friend translated it for us). Needed a little work as the previous owner had crumpled the passenger door but it was nothing beyond someone who is handy with spanners.

Just picked up a vertex kit and a bunch of little things before it is re-registered then it will cop a turbo - and the N/A 2JZ will easily handle 400HP with a different head gasket, however I think I will shoot for a super responsive 300 HP.

I really respect Toyota's offerings throughout the 90's, incredibly built, incredibly reliable and easy to work on. Can't recommend a soarer enough.

Or you know do whatever and get a R34, good cars too.

You both came with good points, ( Mr Eps i was expecting the common rant that everyone gives me ), but im more of a skyline person, with my brothers R32 that we both built from the ground up pritty much, and i use to own a R31 which was a beautiful car but just abit old. The interior was ruined, i just want a new model skyline which has a beautfiul interior and comfortable, for my p's im no one of those go fast teenager p-platers that rap em selves around poles in there turbo 180sx's. I've been in one car accident as u can notice above i put WAS a beautiful car but thats a different story. I guess i might look abit locally. Sounds like a plan to make of today.
