Thick smoke pouring from exhaust

I just picked up my R32 GTR from its quarantine inspection and when I revved the vehicle to about 6K rpm's suddenly heaps of thick smoke began pouring from the exhaust. It seems that the smoke was only generated when the car was in gear as it would thin out when in neutral.

When I stopped the vehicle it wouldn't start again. The engine would turn over but not fire up.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? I have been told it might be a blown oil seal in the turbo.

A mate picked up his GTR yesterday and had a VERY similar problem, unfortunatley the mechanic working on it reckons its more than the oil seal.

You may be lucky but is could be a terminated turbo...

That doesn't sound good. When your mate finds out what the problem is can you post a response please?

is the engine standard or modified

eek.. do a compression check, or get a mechanic to do one. That should fairly quickly tell you if its engine related, or turbo related.

To see if its a turbo oil seal, pull off your intercooler piping and check for masses of oil in there.

no - signs aren't good.
