any visible rust is only the tip of the iceberg. generally the patch of rust will be either 2 or 4 times the size of what you can actually see, and you need to get all of it or it will just come back.

Ive got rust in behind the plastic triangle bit that holds the driver's side mirror bolts on and some on the top bit of the driver's side A-pillar.

Not to mention I have a tiny bit on the left rear quarter panel....

Hmmm... big difference between

* systemic rust and

* localised surface rust

surface rust you simply sand/grind off. deeper rust you need to cut it out and weld a new piece of steel back in.

i think i will try and sand back the Rust around the electric mirror wire in the A pillar corner. Are replacements available for that corner piece, mine has a snapped of arm and is loose.
