Fellow Skyliners.

Thank you all for your information, I was totally unaware there were so many other BNR32 Datsun enthusiasts. One car that I thought of was a silver Australian Delivered car its first owner was Warren Von Bibra (Nissan dealer on the NW coast of Tasmania) which was then owned by Stan Barnes (Hobart used car dealer) who sold it as part of a divorce settlement.

Marcus Ambrose's father Ross has a silver Scuderia one at one stage too.

Reading the 27 pages of posts made me think that I may still get another one, but it definitely will not be straight away.

Cheers Alex

Hi Alex,

All I can say is WOW!

I am shocked yet delighted to hear that you know my car as well as my brothers...I will explain:

When you mentioned Stan Barnes, I immediately checked my logbook. Looks like I own Warren Von Bibra's GTR. Did Stan sell this on behalf of Warrens divorce settlement? Also, do you know either of these guys personally?

Second to this, you are the first person I've come across that knows & has heard of another Scuderia GTR as there were only 6 produced. My brother owns no. 001 & has owned it for about 15 years. He bought it off Paul Whitmarsh who you may have heard of (owns Australian Wharf in Sydney & actively competes in the Porsche cup). Here are some pics which I posted in the 'rare skyline register':

Here goes. The PM from Alex (no_gtr_yet) explains that my GTR was procured by Stan at Warren Von Bibra with about 15000 km on the clock, he only had it for 18 odd months getting it serviced at Warwick Motors Hobart? (I have confirmed this is correct as per my logbook) before it had to be sold due to a divorce settlement. the car was still an expensive thing at that point maybe 3 - 3.5 years into its life.

The Scuderia that Ross had (same as my brothers GTR) was lightly modified and did some Targa events from memory, with inhouse sponsorship from his company Leisure Inn Hotels as well as some of the early octagon Targa circuit events. Ross together with Ralph Firman Snr. (sp?) started the Van Dieman formula car company. Alex has only ever seen one other one advertised which he has in one of his Datsuns I will never own files from a unique cars circa 1995. There was an article somewhere too but he does not know where unfortunately............

Alex is my best friend ATM :)

This "forced sale before divorce settlement" business reminds me of a story that occurred here in Sydney.

The man facing a similar dilemma sold his highly modified blue R32 GTR to his mate for a paltry sum as an act of 'safekeeping'.

After the divorce settlement went through, his mate 'sold' it back again for the same measly sum.

It wouldn't be the first time of course!

Tis great to have an ongoing good relationship between buyer and seller though eh?

Can anyone give me (via PM please) details of actual BNR32 sales for the last couple of years. I would like to know the following:-

colour,

condition,

km,

modifications

owners

note this is only for my own research rather than any other reason. I realize my car was way under valued for insurance purposes but I am trying to get a feel for what it was worth in a sane realistic sense.

Cheers Alex

  • 2 weeks later...

Well according to a phone call I got this evening my Datsun has been found, relatively complete and under the car cover that was in the boot when it was borrowed.

It is currently the property of Shannon's Insurance as they had paid out on the policy, though to my mind as the cheque has not been cashed this is still in limbo..................

further conversation with Shannon's next week will hopefully have me better placed to understand what the next step in Saga 101 - BNR32 ownership, will be

oh the joys :-)

Great........ Did they get the oxygen (and GT-R) thieves that stole it?

I'm sure Shannons would be happy to sell it back to you at the payout figure providing you weren't grossly under insured....

Bob.

You will have the first right of refusal so they will let u make an offer prior to auction. I've done that before with 2 of my past cars...only concern is if u look at the ADM's Shannon's have sold in the past, that have fetched close to top dollar, way over 50k.

Was grossly under insured Bob :-( but only to the point Shannons considered to be 'market value'

the less I comment on this the better at this point I suspect ;-)

unsure about those who temporarily 'stored' the vehicle will leave that to the Tasmanian Police Force to sort out...............................

Cheers Alex.
