Definately the same car......... I think this may have been one of the evaluation cars built up to Aussie specs.

Yes, it is an Aussie Car but not one of the batched 100.

They must of had 1 or 2 of these cars as some of the magazine road tests were performed before the 100 cars arrived.

Bob.

i think this gtr may also fall in the same category (silver gtr in the list):

7. 5/91, QLD plates NO1GTR, owned by Dazmo (chassis number does not exist on the build date list, 6F4KBNR32A0011273...11273)?

Not sure where the Black Packer car is now, but I know a little of its history.

Was stolen at gun point in sydney in early 2002.

Was later recovered along with a bunch of other cars, missing a few bits and pieces such as brake callipers but still in good condition.

It was then sold through Unique Autosports in Sydney, I remember viewing the car there. It was modified but not heavily.

No idea where it ended up after that.

Please excuse this stupid question but was it a R32? I was told the only black Skyline he had was a R34........

Amazing how bad some peoples memory is after 20 years. I can remember everything I did 20 years ago I just can't remember what I did 20 hours ago! :action-smiley-069:

Yes ADM R32, wonder if Unique Autosport can confirm the VIN.

Cool........ So the big man had 4 R32's.

2 x Red, 1 x Silver and 1 x Black.

He really must of liked them.

A good testament to the model eh!

I'm not quite sure how he fit into them though.............

This might be my car. It was the story I was told when I enquired about it. I have a tow truck receipt somehwere, which I found in the glovebox, which I am sure is dated aorund this period. At the time of theft it was owned by someone around Westleigh / Hornsby. I bought it from unique in August 2003 so timeline fits. I am the third owner of my car.

The main problem was for whatever reason my car had its compliance plate and ID tags removed (supposedly by the theives)......I'm still trying to figure out why.

The main reason I was still convinced it was an original ADM car was it does have all ADM parts / features and it came with an original letter of authenticity from Nissan Australia verifying its engine & chassis numbers matched that of car xxx, whcih was an ADM vehicle. The letter was signed by Tony Carraturo, who as at August last year was Executive General Manager Nissan Aftersales Division & Casting Plant.

No one was buying the car so after it being there for about 4 months the priced reduced by about 25% and they gave me a good deal for my trade in (which was also purchased through Unique 3 years earlier).

OK......... So let me get this right.

You have owned the car for over 8 years but can't confirm that the original owner was Kerry Packer... Aka ......... Consolidated Press Pty Ltd?

I would die of curiosity no knowing this. Have you been able to find a contact at Nissan that can confirm the original owner? Surely they could confirm that?

What about Tony Carraturo can he help? He'd be my new best friend for 2012. I'd drive him Cuckoo until he gave me the info I was after.

I'd walk into the RTA and explain that you know they won't tell you who the original owner was but if you get someone with a brain, a tiny nudge nudge wink wink to confirm Consolidated Press Pty Ltd as the original owners wouldn't be too hard. I'd then try the big insurance companies and see if they insured it when new and try and get some confirmation there. I just wouldn't give up...... Someone should be able to confirm this.

On a different note, I had a win today.................

Pick this up. Cost me a bomb but what the heck, it may come in handy one day.

Bob.

Hi Bob,

Never suspected it was owned by Packer / related entity.

The letter is dated November 2002 and at the time Tony was General Manager, National Service Division.

Yeah I have been tempted to find out more about the car as I have a friend, whose brother works at Nissan Australia and have been tempted to get him to ask Tony or at least get contact details. But then I think this happened over 9 years ago so will he remember.

I'll try an upload a copy of the letter tomorrow, for you guys out of interest.

I have one of those radios in my cuppboard. Used to randomly change stations when it was in the car.

The only mod it had when I bought it was a Kevin Bartlett chip in the ECU. It was always maintained by Eagle Automotive at Asquith.

I was able to verify the numbers on the car, then the service history by receipts from Eagle. But like I said it has no tags plates anymore. But this never effected it getting Pink and Blue slips or rego when needed. Just always kept a copy of the letter in the car.

Nice buy bob, how much is a bomb :)?

Out of interest, did any other car such as the 300zx run the same compatible head unit (knowing that their side indicators are the same)? Surely there is another make/model that ran the same radio back in the day?

What about the chasis number on the firewall?

Is that still there?

I can dechiper all the numbers if that is still there.............

I've met Ron Eagle a couple of times so if I were you I'd lob on his doorstep with the car and I D numbers and see if he can confirm its Packers car.

Bob.

    • have you rotated the car yet? if so how smooth was it?
    • And finally, I had the driver's side airbox off while adding a long drain hose under the oil can to down near the oil filter. Doesn't look good, it has definitely had an turbo oil seal leak and looks like it has been for a long time.....guess I'll have to get a pair of highflows to put on the shelf It's also worth mentioning it has a really strange clamp between the bottom of the airflow meter (which has a big barb/lip on it) and the intake pipe. I've used the magic of MSPaint to show, basically you have to clip out those 2 steel springs which unlocks the hose from the AFM. I used 2 flat screwdrivers, the spring sort of clips into the unlocked position. Reassembly you just pop them both back flat once the hose is far enough up the AFM that the spring clamp is above the barb. Weird to use but much more convenient once your'e used to it compared to trying to do up a hose clamp under the airbox like on 32 GTR
    • The other thing I started was a fire extinguisher bracket.  As with a few other cars previously (350z, Leaf), I'm going to add a bracket between the navigator seat's front bolts, then mount the extinguisher on that. Unfortunately Nissan (probably the same engineer who did the A/T fluid interwarmer) decided that the front seat brackets would be recessed and uneven so the bracket shape was a bit tricky; I ended up doing 1 part under each seat mount (the large hole is because there is a flange under the seat mount to allow for the carpet thickness)   and then a horizontal part between those 2 No final pic yet as the paint needs to dry, I'll post up once that's done
    • OK, a few half jobs on the skyline this weekend because its booked for a test day at Wakefield Park on 27-Feb. While the Ecutek dongle and app provide display and logging of a heap of engine parameters, they annoyingly don't have access to the auto trans temp. So I grabbed an oil temp gauge from Raceworks which apparently has warning colour change and peak hold, about $95  and their 8mm hose sender adapter Now, I foolishly thought these 2 might work together, but no, the sender needs about 30mm clearance in the fitting and the adapter only had about 8mm. I've cobbled something together with an NPT T piece and blank for now but will try and work out something more permanent as I intend to use the same fitting for the data logger in the future. Under the car, Nissan's engineers decided that only one opportunity for coolant and trans fluid to mix (the radiator) was not enough, and they also added an interwarmer near the sump on the passenger side like the engine oil has: I've cut the hose between the auto trans outlet and the interwarmer inlet and inserted the sender there as that gives the best indication of temp inside the transmission.   From there it is back to the pain of running that sender wire to the cabin, I've run it up near the passenger headlight, into the battery box, across the channel at the back and into the master cylinder area where I ran out of wire length (and patience). Remainder of the job is through the grommet near the accelerator pedal that I've used previously, then across under the dash to where I will temporarily mount it on the console for track days (and remove it other times). The gauge will also need IGN, BAT and earth (I'm not going to worry about illumination as I'll unhook it between track days)
    • This piece is obscenely discontinued. I honestly hate the frameless window design because the rubber gets stressed and the guides as well every time you open and close the door.
